Chapter 1984 - 1985: Descent (Part 3)This move caught not only Yang Fei off guard, even Lilith was startled.
Giles' fresh blood splashed onto her white jade-like cheeks; her expression was both confused and moved.
Blood kept gushing out from Giles' mouth.
He looked at Lilith apologetically.
"I'm sorry, Lilith. I failed your father's trust, let you get hurt. It's my fault."
As he said this, Giles suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood with a "wah".
This thin, short old man collapsed directly onto Lilith's body.
Lilith was scared stiff, with even more confusion on her face.
"Why did you save me? I'm your enemy!"
Giles gasped for breath, his skinny fingers lightly brushing Lilith's hair.
"You're not my enemy. You're Lilith, the daughter I raised for seventeen years."
Yang Fei noticed the black-and-white radiance in Lilith's pupils flashing rapidly.
But in the end, her pupils finally became clear and lustrous.
Lilith's tears fell like broken pearls, and her tone turned choked.
"Dad, I'm the one who wronged you. It was actually me who blinded Laura's eyes."
"I deliberately released poisonous snakes into her window while she was cultivating Martial Arts, scaring her into Deviation, and in the end her eyes were burned blind by Essence Qi."
As she spoke, Lilith's tears flowed more and more fiercely, streaming down her face like a little creek.
"I was jealous of Laura. She had your favor, had mom, while I was a strange Dark Creature with no home, living under someone else's roof."
"I thought that after I killed Laura, you would only have me as your daughter."
"I would serve you with all my heart, take care of you, and be a truly good daughter."
Even Giles' eyes widened at that.
After a long moment, he shook his head with a bitter smile.
"Forget it. It's all in the past."
"You did wrong things, but by a twist of fate, your eyes ended up given to Laura. That can be considered making up for your mistake."
At this moment, the black-and-white glow appeared again in Lilith's eyes.
Her whole face twisted, becoming extremely violent and vicious, with a hysterical madness.
Lilith's voice turned sometimes shrill, sometimes hoarse.
"How can it be over? You dug out my eyes, then tortured me to death in prison."
"All these blood debts, I'll collect them one by one, starting with you, old geezer!"
When Lilith finished speaking, her palms suddenly thrust out together, striking toward Giles' chest.
Yang Fei was very clear in his heart.
At this moment, Lilith's body was being fought over by two Martial Wills for control, her moods wildly unstable.
He had been watching Lilith all along; seeing her suddenly strike, he immediately grabbed Giles and yanked him backward.
Because of this, Giles narrowly avoided Lilith's double-palm fierce strike.
Lilith's blow missed, and her body suddenly retreated, a shrill, manic laugh spilling from her mouth.
"Just you wait. When I fully descend, every last one of you will die."
As Lilith spoke, her speed suddenly increased, and she flashed out of the church like lightning, quickly disappearing into the darkness.
Giles had taken a Sword from Yang Fei, and was severely injured.
But as a Spiritual Martial Arts Master, his Vitality was extremely tenacious; this injury was not enough to take his life.
Yang Fei helped Giles up and gave a wry smile.
"Now you know why I insisted on killing Lilith, right?"
As he spoke, he told Giles everything he had seen and heard since coming to the church, without leaving anything out.
Giles' eyes went wide.
"You're saying the Doomsday Goddess has actually descended? And she descended onto Lilith?"
Yang Fei snorted.
"If you, old geezer, hadn't jumped out to mess things up, I'd have already killed this so-called Doomsday Goddess with one Sword."
Giles let out a long sigh and shook his head. "Not exactly."
"That was only a Martial Will of the Doomsday Goddess. Even if you killed Lilith, at most you'd damage the Doomsday Goddess' Martial Will; you still wouldn't uproot her completely."
Yang Fei sighed helplessly.
"Then what? If I can kill her once, I'll kill her once. Sooner or later, I'll completely wipe out the Doomsday Goddess."
Giles shook his head. "Even so, it can't be at the cost of Lilith's life."
As he spoke, he leaned on his Dragon Head Cane and walked out of the church.
Yang Fei called out, "Hey, what about these people?"
Giles turned back, his face frosty.
"You don't need to worry about that. I'll have the police handle it."
A chill ran through Yang Fei's heart. "How are you planning to handle it? Kill them all?"
Giles turned around and looked at Yang Fei, his face full of helplessness.
"Then you tell me—what should I do?"
"The Doomsday Goddess absorbed these people's power of worship, and her Martial Will is continuously replenished. It's almost impossible to defeat her."
"So, to defeat the Doomsday Goddess, we have to sever this power of worship."
"Whether they're ordinary humans or Dark Creatures, as long as they worship the Doomsday Goddess, they must be eradicated, roots and all."
When Giles finished speaking, he turned and left without looking back.
Yang Fei gave a bitter smile, turned around, and gestured to the stunned poor folk in the church.
"Hurry up and go. The police are coming to arrest people."
The moment Yang Fei finished speaking, the poor civilians behind the curtain immediately cried out in alarm.
They swarmed out through the church doors and fled into the dark streets.
Yang Fei shrugged and sighed helplessly.
"This is as far as I can help you."
Even if the Doomsday Goddess was drawing on these people's power of worship as part of the Will of the World, Yang Fei still couldn't bring himself to kill them all.
In the eyes of Giles and the others, this behavior was naturally extremely foolish.
But only Yang Fei knew in his heart that he had once been one of these people.
Life is a beautiful thing. Just because of temporary ignorance, do they deserve to be "cleansed"?
After Yang Fei left the church, he found Giles had lit a pot of tobacco and was waiting for him in the evening breeze.
The old man's tobacco came from last century's East Asia Region; the flavor was mellow and full of regional character.
Yang Fei walked over and unceremoniously took the old man's pipe, taking two hard puffs.
He was choked by the acrid, scorching smoke and started coughing again and again.
Giles glanced at him, half-smiling.
"Did you tip off the poor folks in the church?"
Yang Fei blew out a big mouthful of smoke and answered bluntly.
"Yeah. So what?"
Giles smiled. "Then I'm relieved. Before I'm sure those poor folks are evacuated, I won't notify the Federal Government."
"What I said just now was just to give those ignorant poor people a warning."
At this, a sly Old Fox glint flashed in the old man's eyes again.
"No matter what, I'm not exactly some cold-blooded bastard."
Yang Fei chuckled, feeling a bit more warmth toward the old man in his gaze.
The old man might not be the smartest, but he was definitely a very likeable person.
The old man looked at Yang Fei and suddenly asked,
"Do you know how to truly kill the Doomsday Goddess?"
