Miss Fairy, Please Hear Me Out

Chapter 115 - Sakura Leech Lake

Xu Yuan let out a long breath. Sakura Leech Lake was the heart of the Dome Palace. Within this map, aside from the Soul Bewildering Corridor, there were only two bosses, the Leech King and the Beguiling Divine Sakura.

The way to clear it kept Azure Point’s usual multi-route style. Players could ignore every dialogue box and simply butcher their way through, killing the Leech King first, then the cherry blossom tree. They could also bypass this map for the time being, head all the way to the deepest area, kill a deranged demoness, and obtain a token from her drop. Equip that token, return to this map, and when the dialogue box popped up, they could directly use the token to control the Leech King.

And apart from those two options, there was also the good old method of talking it out. This route was both the most complicated and the simplest, because one could always look up a guide and do a crooked little speedrun. Just like a certain Soulslike game, much of the information in Azure Point was scattered in fragments across the maps. Only after piecing them all together could players roughly infer what they were supposed to enter into the dialogue box.

Three key phrases and one item.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Yuchu.”

And... a bottle of Flower Carving Wine, promised for 10,000 years.

After placing the fine flower wine before the small mound of earth, Xu Yuan braced his hands on his knees and stood up. He looked back once more.

The divine sakura that had bloomed for 10,000 years had, at some unknown point, withered away. Only a few cherry blossom petals glowing faintly pink lay quietly beneath the dead tree.

They were Beguiling Sakura Flowers, the sole main ingredient for the unorthodox treasure Joyous Union Powder.

The Sage’s remnant soul of the saint clicked his tongue. “Xu boy, this stuff is good. With these flower petals, you could refine at least three cauldrons of Joyous Union Powder. Tsk, tsk.”

One cauldron equaled one bottle. One bottle was roughly three doses.

Xu Yuan smiled faintly at that and asked in a low voice, “Joyous Union Powder needs to be paired with the Grand Dual Cultivation Yin-Yang Art, doesn’t it?”

“Heh, kid, I know where that cultivation art is. Come to think of it, that girl surnamed Su seems to have the Bewitching Soul Devil Body, right?”

“Heh.” Xu Yuan smiled and said nothing.

Seeing this, the Sage’s remnant soul shook his head and muttered, “With the cultivation art you have now, there’s no need for you to switch. Still, a technique this heaven-defying should not be nameless under Heaven.”

“I picked it up at the door,” Xu Yuan said casually, making it up on the spot.

“If you don’t want to say, then forget it. But why aren’t you going to pick up those Beguiling Sakura Flowers?”

“No rush. It’s not time yet.” Xu Yuan stared at the surface of the lake, then quietly reminded him, “Oh, right. No matter what you see in a moment, don’t make a move.”

There was still one more boss here.

Luo Daofan’s heart tightened. He glanced at the withered, shriveled sakura tree, then at the calm lake, and said no more.

Time passed, minute by minute. Five minutes, fifteen minutes, thirty minutes... Then suddenly, the once-calm lake abruptly surged into towering waves. A huge eyeless beast with a single mouth broke the surface with its head. It was a leech, one just as massive as the Beguiling Divine Sakura.

That enormous body appeared without warning. Its suffocating pressure bore down on everything.

Xu Yuan was almost forced straight to his knees. At the same time, a vast surge of soul power poured out from the soul ring.

“Don’t panic!” He forced himself to endure the pressure and barked in a low voice.

The Sage’s remnant soul was puzzled, but the soul fluctuation he had prepared to unleash stopped by instinct.

Xu Yuan let out a long breath and said softly, “It won’t attack.”

And just as he had said, after the giant leech surfaced, it made no further move. The pressure covering him also gradually faded.

It stared at him for a long while with that hideous, terrifying mouthpart of its, then finally turned toward the tiny bottle of Flower Carving Wine placed before the mound of earth.

It stood there in a daze for a long, long time, then slowly sank back beneath the lake.

The Sage’s remnant soul sounded faintly amazed. “To think such an exotic beast was hiding at the bottom of this lake. That aura just now was at least enough to rival an ordinary second rank cultivator. But why would it...”

“Shh.” Xu Yuan raised a finger to his lips and cut him off, his eyes fixed on the spot where the leech had disappeared.

The corner of Luo Daofan’s eye twitched. The way he looked at Xu Yuan grew even more solemn.

Fifteen minutes later, the waves rose again. The giant leech surfaced once more. Though it had no eyes, one could still feel its gaze, almost as if it had taken on solid form.

As they faced each other, the leech opened its enormous mouth, packed layer upon layer with sharp teeth. From within, it extended a long tongue. Curled at the tip of that tongue was a blue pearl.

“A Meteoric Ice Pearl?” The Sage’s soul body spoke in a low voice, confusion in his tone. He could not understand why an exotic beast with such limited intelligence would come out to offer a treasure.

Xu Yuan ignored him. He lifted his hand and held it out flat, palm facing up.

Seeing this, the giant leech carefully placed the blue pearl into his palm.

Once that was done, the giant leech raised its head and looked at the massive dead tree that had already withered. Then, a violent fluctuation of source qi burst from within its body.

Then, its enormous body simply toppled backward, limp and powerless. It crashed onto the lake, sending a huge wave roaring outward.

The Sage’s remnant soul slowly drifted out and watched as streams of bright red blood poured from the giant leech’s massive body, dyeing the lake crimson.

“It killed itself?”

“Mhm.” Xu Yuan stared at the giant leech.

After a long silence, the Sage’s remnant soul murmured to himself, “Once the Beguiling Divine Sakura withered and died, the exotic beast guarding it naturally had no reason to go on living. But the question is, why did it offer you a treasure?”

As he spoke, the Sage fixed his gaze on Xu Yuan and asked in a grave tone, “Xu Yuan, are you that Jing He?”

Xu Yuan looked back at the remnant soul, his eyes deep and unreadable. “What do you think?”

The Sage’s remnant soul stared at Xu Yuan.

As their eyes met, Xu Yuan suddenly raised his hand in a mock French military salute and grinned. “Just kidding. Don’t take it seriously. Of course I’m not Jing He.”

After a brief pause, he pointed at the monstrous giant leech, his voice dropping slightly. “Because it is.”

10,000 years ago, the Splendorblom Sect planted this Beguiling Divine Sakura through a blood sacrifice. A beauty and a young master. One became the sakura. One became the leech. The fallen blossoms nourished the leech. The Leech King guarded the Beguiling Divine Sakura. So close they were almost touching, yet as far apart as heaven and earth.

The sect was destroyed. The halls were emptied. Everyone left. And for 10,000 years, everything remained just as it had been.

This was one of the little hidden easter eggs buried in Azure Point’s tangled storyline.

“I fulfilled their wish. They gave me their thanks. That’s all.” After putting away the Meteoric Ice Pearl, Xu Yuan picked up the few Beguiling Sakura Flowers lying beneath the sakura tree, placed them into a jade box, and tossed it into his Sumeru Ring.

He was just about to enter the dead sakura through the hollow in its trunk when the Sage’s remnant soul suddenly gave a light cough.

“Ahem. Might I ask how you knew all of this, young friend?”

Even ancient records could not possibly have written down what had just happened. There was no way this brat had read it from some old book.

Xu Yuan raised an eyebrow and glanced sideways at the saint’s soul body, looking rather amused. “Old Luo, did you just call me young friend?”

Luo Daofan’s soul body frowned, then hesitated slightly. “Old friend...?”

“Pfft. Old friend?” Xu Yuan let out a snort of laughter and shook his head. “Old Luo, why not just call me Senior Xu while you’re at it?”
