Xu Yuan stared at her, his eyes somewhat helpless. “Then tell me, what exactly are you trying to do by following me? Do you want me to recover my memories from the illusion? Judging by the way you look right now, you probably don’t have a way to do that.”
At this point, the corner of his lips curled slightly. He looked at Tian Yan with a smile that was not quite a smile. “If it wasn’t for that so-called anchor point of yours, then what right do you have to come here and call me to account?”
After a pause, he shrugged. “Of course, you could also say that you simply want to stay with me. But if you said that out loud, would you even believe it yourself, Tian Yan?”
When his words fell, Tian Yan opened her mouth, but in the end, she closed it again.
Then, Xu Yuan gradually saw a trace of wavering appear in the eyes of the girl before him. He was not surprised. Ran Qingmo could coexist peacefully with him because that big block of ice had too many certainties about her.
In Azure Point, aside from the death routes where she was hunted down and killed by Xu Changge, she also had one route where she fled far overseas to survive.
After the player cheated and defeated Xu Changge, Azure Point would present two options. The first was to accompany her to the ruins of the Celeste Sword Sect. The second was to part as strangers who had only met by chance.
Choosing the second meant farewell forever.
Choosing the first meant the player would accompany Ran Qingmo to the deepest part of Celeste Mountain, and there, amid that scorched bamboo forest, they would see what the old sect master had left behind for her. What her master left her was not some precious treasure. Nor was it the conviction to take revenge. And it certainly was not some grand ambition to revive the Celeste Sword Sect.
There was only one simple sentence.
Qingmo, live on.
To someone as pure as her, becoming sect master and protecting the Celeste Sword Sect was the destiny that had been instilled in her since childhood. But that destiny could still be changed.
Ran Qingmo was different from Tian Yan.
In Azure Point, the Heavenwatch Pavilion as a faction had barely revealed anything at all. The only scrap that leaked out in the official guidebook was the Heaven Deriving Art.
And whether in terms of personality, methods, or depth of schemes, Tian Yan was not the sort of person who could be swayed by others.
Silence fell, bleak and lonely as the endless snowscape stretching across the Myriad Ascents Mountain Range.
No one knew how long passed.
As if she had finally figured something out, Tian Yan suddenly gave a soft laugh. She raised the sleeve of her palace robe and wiped the corners of her eyes.
After a long while, she suddenly lifted her gaze and looked at him with a smile between her lips and teeth. “Xu Changtian, if you remembered everything like I do, would you still have done the same thing?”
Xu Yuan pondered briefly, then smiled and asked in return, “If I said I wouldn’t, would you believe me?”
“Pfft.” Tian Yan burst into laughter. Her beautiful eyes curved into two glistening crescent moons, her smile bright and charming. “As if I would believe that. A bastard like you would have made the exact same choice even if you had your memories.”
“Right back at you.” Xu Yuan did not deny it.
“Hmph.” The girl gave a soft snort, but likewise did not deny it.
Their eyes met, and both of them smiled.
The biggest problem seemed to have been resolved. Xu Yuan took a breath, sat down on the stone slab behind him, and took a bamboo skewer of roasted porcupine meat from the campfire. “Come on. You won’t be eating anything I make for a while after this.”
This time, she obediently sat down beside him, took the bamboo skewer he handed over, parted her small lips, and bit into it. “You seem awfully certain I’ll let you leave.”
Xu Yuan shrugged. “If you really remember most of what happened in the illusion, and you spent more than ten years with me day and night, then you should know exactly what kind of person I am. Aside from threats I have no choice but to make up on the spot just to bluff people, most of the things I say don’t end up being duds.”
When Tian Yan heard this, she let out two breathy laughs and nearly choked on the food in her mouth. After swallowing, she shot him a reproachful glare. “Your shamelessness really hasn’t changed at all.”
Xu Yuan shrugged. “Can’t help it. I was born this way.”
Tian Yan bit off another mouthful of the fatty, tender porcupine meat. As she chewed, she fired back, “With a mouth that sharp, how did you even live this long?”
“By relying on my father, of course.” Xu Yuan was perfectly frank.
Tian Yan’s voice turned mocking. “True. If not for Xu Yinhe, the things you did in the imperial capital alone would’ve been enough to have your head chopped off dozens of times.”
“Heh...” Xu Yuan laughed softly.
After that, silence suddenly arrived.
Only the faint sounds of the two of them chewing echoed softly through the cave.
No one knew how long passed.
Then Tian Yan suddenly called his name softly.
“Xu Changtian.”
“Mhm?” Xu Yuan answered absentmindedly.
Tian Yan asked as if it were nothing. “About what happened in the illusion, um... did you really forget everything?”
“Most of it.” Xu Yuan did not hide it. “There are only some particularly memorable parts I haven’t forgotten.”
Tian Yan suddenly lifted her eyes to look at him. Her heartbeat quickened slightly, and she quickly finished the meat skewer in her hand in two bites. “Particularly memorable?”
“Mhm.” Xu Yuan nodded.
“For example?” Tian Yan asked.
Xu Yuan pondered briefly, looked at Tian Yan, and said, “Light pink.”
Confusion appeared in Tian Yan’s eyes.
Xu Yuan said nothing. He simply gave the girl’s body a very suggestive glance.
The moment his gaze landed,
WHOOSH! A bamboo skewer tore straight through the air.
Xu Yuan’s pupils shrank, and he hurriedly twisted aside to dodge.
When he looked back, that perfectly ordinary bamboo skewer had already buried itself completely into the hard stone wall of the cave, vanishing without a trace.
Xu Yuan’s breath caught slightly. He turned his head. “Tian Yan, are you serious?”
Tian Yan clapped her hands and rolled her eyes at him. “I was only testing whether you really had the qualifications to negotiate with me. Besides, who told you to never say anything good with that dog mouth of yours?”
“What if it hit me?” Xu Yuan rubbed his left shoulder.
Tian Yan tilted her head, her eyes curving in a smile. “Then you’d only lose one hand. When we first entered the illusion, that was exactly what you did to me. You might have forgotten, but I’ve always remembered.”
Xu Yuan opened his mouth, then sighed. He took a small porcelain bottle from his Sumeru Ring.
The surface of the bottle was carved from blue-and-white porcelain, clearly made of extraordinary material.
Seeing Xu Yuan take it out, Tian Yan subconsciously frowned. “What is that?”
“Something good I picked up last time at the Southern Capital commandery office. Consider it an apology.”
“Wine?”
“Mhm.” Xu Yuan nodded. He took out a wine vessel on his own, tilted the porcelain bottle slightly, and the moment the amber liquor poured out, the entire cave filled with its fragrance. “A tiny bottle of this Jade Dew costs three thousand taels. There’s demand but no supply. Not only can it refine soul intent, it can also increase source qi. I can barely bring myself to drink it on normal days.”
Instead, Tian Yan shrank back slightly. Her golden eyes carried a hint of wariness. “Xu Changtian, you’re not thinking of drugging me, are you?”
Xu Yuan’s movements froze. The corner of his smile twitched, and he did not know whether to laugh or cry. “In your heart, am I that kind of person?”
Tian Yan’s eyes were full of disdain. “Don’t flatter yourself. In my heart, you’re even worse than that kind of person.”
Xu Yuan gave a light cough. “You can relax. I gain absolutely nothing from drugging you right now. Besides, whether it’s drugged or not, can’t you tell for yourself?”
“Beguiling Sakura Flower. Colorless and odorless,” Tian Yan said.
“Fine, then don’t drink it.” Xu Yuan rolled his eyes, poured himself a cup, and was just about to drink when the porcelain bottle was snatched away by the girl beside him.
Xu Yuan looked at her in surprise.
Tian Yan glared at him with her beautiful eyes. “If you dared to drug it, you’re dead.”
Xu Yuan smiled gently. “All right.”
He was just about to hand Tian Yan a cup.
“Glug, glug, glug.”
Xu Yuan looked at her, stunned. Three thousand taels. Gone.
After the girl finished drinking, a tipsy flush surfaced on her little face at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Jade Dew intoxicated the soul, and it went straight to the head extremely fast.
Seeing Tian Yan like this, Xu Yuan did not say much. He drained the wine in his own cup.
“Why drink it so quickly? It’s not like there isn’t more.”
With that said, he took out two more identical bottles of Jade Dew from his Sumeru Ring and filled his own cup again. Then he looked at the red-cheeked girl across from him. “Let me say this in advance. If you get drunk, don’t turn around and accuse me of drugging you.”
Tian Yan did not speak. She slowly rose to her feet, then straddled his lap, looking down at him with her beautiful eyes.
Xu Yuan’s eyes went wide. His hands subconsciously settled on the girl’s waist. “What are you trying to...”
There were no words, only her warmth spreading from his lips through his entire body.
Then their lips parted.
He wiped the corner of his mouth and opened his mouth. But she pressed one long, slender finger against his lips.
Tian Yan smiled at him, her golden eyes curving as though stars were glittering inside them. “Once my injuries are fully healed, Xu Changtian, you’d better pray you never appear in front of me again.”
With that, she stood up, raised one delicate jade-like hand, placed it against Xu Yuan’s chest, and softly spat out a single word. “Scram.”
