"Is it dead?"

After Loren landed, the others asked urgently.

"Not dead. Angels have authority protecting them. Unless that authority is stripped away, it can't die."

"You all hold it off. I'll prepare a small-scale Severance Ritual. Consider it practice."

With that said, Loren casually tossed Requiem to Anna. Against an angel, Requiem was far more useful than the Scythe of Harvest.

"Got it."

Anna caught Requiem and excitedly twirled it in a blade flourish, already prepared to chop the angel to death.

"Scarlett, come with me. Get out what I need..."

Loren didn't go far; he began setting up the ritual nearby. Going farther would be pointless—this distance meant nothing to an angel.

Once the array was drawn, Loren took off his black robe and placed it in the center of the altar.

He had already written the ritual runes on the black robe beforehand, when he first learned of the impending Divine War. It saved a lot of trouble.

Just as Loren finished setting up the altar, the angel flew out of the pit.

It looked utterly disheveled now. The light radiating from its body had dimmed, and most of the eyes on its wings had been shattered—only a scant few remained.

"Blasphemer. Die."

The angel's tone was utterly flat, as if stating an unchangeable fact.

It flapped its wings and flew toward Loren.

Loren sped up his work. Although the Witches had grown much stronger recently, their room for improvement was nowhere near Loren's. Going up against an angel was still risky, even if Arcane Ability countered the Orthodox Gods' authority.

That was why Loren had been preparing to back them up from the start. If they could just hold the angel off, that was already a win.

Once Loren stripped away its authority, the angel wouldn't stand a chance against him.

"Ant. How dare you overstep!"

Anna shouted words even more arrogant as she charged forward, swinging Requiem in a heavy, powerful strike.

In her eyes, both angels and Orthodox Gods were nothing but bugs. Any one of them daring to attack Loren was the real overstep.

Her swordsmanship wasn't actually that great, but her strength was monstrous. Sensing danger, the angel raised its wings to block. The blade slashed into its wing.

The defensive power of an Angel-tier being was truly terrifying. The blade only cut a sliver into its wing before, in the next instant, the angel was sent flying like a baseball—even breaking the sound barrier.

Loren was stunned at the sight. He knew Anna was strong, but he never expected this.

The sent-flying angel carved a trench through the sandy beach before plunging into the sea.

In the next moment, a massive water blade sliced the angel back out of the water. Melody, who was in the sea, had struck.

Before the angel could even land, a hail of steel pellets slammed into its body. Reinforced by Arcane Ability, the pellets left tiny bloody holes all over it.

Then, the angel felt a heavy sense of crisis. Laila pulled the trigger of the Heart's Scales for a second time.

Sensing the danger, the angel soared into the sky. But no matter how it dodged, the bullet followed closely behind, eventually piercing straight into its heart. The various substances within the bullet instantly exploded, corroding the angel's heart away completely.

If it had blood vessels like living beings, the poison would have already spread through its entire body.

With its heart destroyed, the angel temporarily lost control of its direction and crashed to the ground.

It watched its own shadow getting closer and closer, until spikes shot up from the shadow and impaled it.

The angel fell into the village. Combined with all the commotion, the villagers realized something terrible had happened and rushed out to check.

Anna and Luna charged toward the angel together. The spikes piercing it began growing barbs, locking tightly onto its body.

Luna swung her silver sword, and moonlight turned into a blade of energy that slashed toward the angel.

It struggled with all its might, wrenching itself free.

The energy blade struck empty air, but the cost was an even larger hole opening up beside the empty cavity in its heart.

The moment it escaped, flames began to ignite at its wounds, healing them at terrifying speed.

As long as its authority remained, it couldn't die.

The angel never expected this mission to go so badly. One second ago, it had been looking down on everyone from on high; the next, it was being battered around like a tattered plastic bag in the wind.

Right then, the angel noticed the panicked villagers nearby. It grabbed an old man at random:

"Stay back! Or I'll kill him!"

This scene reminded the angel of its time before becoming an angel, when it had often used this method to defeat its enemies.

Unfortunately, this time it failed.

"Do you think I care?"

Anna flashed in front of the angel and sliced off one of its wings with a single stroke.

Realizing threats were useless, the angel immediately transformed into a streak of light, putting distance between itself and Anna while hurling the old man like a projectile at her.

Anna, mid-charge, simply sidestepped and dodged the old man. Behind her, moonlight formed a barrier, catching him safely.

Meanwhile, Luna had already circled behind the angel while it was locked in confrontation with Anna.

Her silver sword, brimming with moonlight, swung out. The angel's other wing fell, and the few remaining eyes on it closed at the same time.

From start to finish, the angel had been dominated by Loren and the Witches.

Loren hadn't expected this. The Witches were this strong?

Suddenly, something occurred to him. This might be related to what he had said earlier—that he might die.

The power of Witches was highly subjective. If they wanted to protect Loren, they truly would become stronger.

"So it's really that simple..."

Loren hadn't expected this. He had assumed he would have to die once and let them fall into darkness before they would get stronger.

But in any case, this was a good thing. Loren focused on finishing the ritual; it was already in its final stage.

"Enough!"

The angel roared, its body emitting an unbearably bright light. When the light touched Anna, she felt as if her skin was being corroded.

That sensation lasted only an instant before moonlight formed a shield in front of them.

The angel seized the opportunity, transforming into a streak of light.

When it reappeared, it was already high in the sky.

"Today, you all die."

An even more intense light blazed. Luna was forced to expand the range of her shield, trying to cover the angel.

Soon, cracks appeared in the shield.

"Final Singer! I hereby request you: temporarily strip the authority of light from this place!"

Loren placed the Dusk Crow's feather in the center of the altar and activated the ritual.

The ritual's incantation was originally very complicated, as it needed to invoke an unknown, great existence. But now, Loren knew exactly who that great existence was.

"I demand in the name of the Perpetual Observer that you strip away the light from here immediately!"
