"Let's go."

Loren used water magic to make the scene a little messier, so it looked more like the work of pirates.

Maybe it was a bit over the top, but it didn't matter; Loren's goal was only to distract anyone who came to investigate.

"Pirates know to eat people but not their brains, pirates are more humane than these nobles."

"Ugh…"

Paqina gagged once. She was used to killing by now, but she still wasn't used to eating people.

Just thinking about what might have happened a moment ago made her sick.

Loren ignored the group of children. With such a big commotion, those kids would likely be handled properly by the authorities.

After all, Loren wasn't a saint; he couldn't babysit a bunch of strangers. Saving their lives was already as much as he could do.

"Any gathering he attends won't be low-class. Although those two people from the Church of Freedom looked humble and servile, their status must still be high.

"People at their level are well informed. If they didn't flee and even continued the banquet, that means there's no danger. The Divine War is still far off."

After confirming that, Loren still didn't relax completely. The outbreak of a Divine War often showed no clear warning; after all, it was a conflict between gods and had nothing to do with ordinary people.

...

The place where Loren and his group landed wasn't far from the God of Light and Fire's territory. They could have rented a carriage to get there, but in a region like that, "renting" didn't really exist; who knew if the people who rented out things every day might end up dead.

So Loren ultimately chose to buy a few horses. The carriage was in Scarlett's space.

In no time they left the city and entered the countryside.

There were basically no magical beasts here anymore; followers of the Church of Light and Fire had cleared them out.

"Master Mentor…"

After getting into the carriage, Paqina suddenly asked,

"Do you think what those nobles did back there is common here?"

"Yes."

Loren's answer was simple and firm.

"Because there are no rules here, it has become a playground for nobles.

"Not only nobles from the Bountiful Church, but basically nobles from every church except the Church of the God of Vows and Wind come here to indulge. Even followers of the Church of Confusion are not much better.

"The Church of Confusion can deceive ordinary people easily, but it's hard for them to fool nobles."

"I see…"

Hearing Loren's answer, Paqina felt a bit defeated.

Since following Loren she had seen the darker side of this world.

She wanted to change it, but she was powerless.

Maybe she could beg Loren to deal with all these nobles now, but as soon as they were gone, the place would quickly return to the same state.

"We're here, you're free."

Loren's voice interrupted Paqina's thoughts. Once they neared the God of Light and Fire's territory, Loren simply loosened the horses' reins.

These were wild horses. In the God of Freedom's lands, few people raised horses properly; they captured wild horses and passed them off as trained.

Luckily Loren had Everything Has a Spirit; wild horses made no difference to him.

Of course, Loren didn't give that shady vendor any money, and the vendor wasn't very surprised. He took it philosophically: if you could cheat someone, do it; if you couldn't, accept your fate.

"Let's go in."

The Holy Flame Empire's city gates were tightly guarded, rivaling even the God of Vows and Wind's territory.

Standing at the gate was an armored figure whose head had been replaced by a mass of flames; a huge eyeball hovered in the fire, and flames leaked from gaps in the armor.

The eyeball always faced the sun, like a sunflower turned toward the light.

"Those are Sun-Chasers, divine envoys of the God of Light and Fire."

Loren and his group swaggered through the gate, unnoticed by the Sun-Chasers and the gate guards.

"Sun-Chasers are the strongest divine envoys. Their offense and defense are the best among envoys, and their self-healing is terrifying. As long as the fire on their bodies isn't fully extinguished, they recover slowly back to normal.

"At the same time, their perception is frighteningly sharp. They don't rely on eyes to see; that giant eyeball exists to stare at the god, strengthening the God of Light and Fire's control over them.

"Anywhere lit by the light they emit will be 'seen' by them. This ability can nullify some invisibility effects."

Loren said this as he walked past a Sun-Chaser.

Clearly, the Hermit card's effect did not fall into the portion that the Sun-Chasers could bypass.

"Is it always daytime here?"

Paqina asked again. While they were traveling it had been night, but after entering the God of Light and Fire's territory it had instantly turned into day.

"Yes. Just as the God of Night and Thunder's domain is perpetual night, this place is perpetual day.

"You've been in the carriage a long time; you're tired. Find a place to rest for a bit.

"Leave the rest to me."

Walking the streets of the Holy Flame Empire, everything about the place felt unsettling.

Both the people and the surroundings gave off a deranged vibe.

Everywhere on the streets was the same symbol: a burning eyeball, the mark of the God of Light and Fire, the Burning Gaze.

Those symbols seemed to watch the faithful constantly, creating a constant pressure.

Living in such an environment, it would be surprising if followers of the God of Light and Fire didn't have mental issues.

The eye on the symbol wasn't mere decoration; it represented the God of Light and Fire's authority. The gaze itself was part of His dominion.

He truly monitored His followers intensively. The moment any follower showed signs of betrayal, they would be burned to ashes immediately.

With the Hermit card's help, Loren wasn't afraid of being watched; the God of Light and Fire couldn't see them at all.

Loren used his cash ability and rented a large house with a basement. The locals were pragmatic rather than selfless; they would still accept bribes when appropriate.

While the witches rested, the angel Loren had control over also returned to the Holy Flame Empire.

Its arrival made the populace erupt in cheers. They were like the most fanatic fans, worshipping the angel more than their own lives.

They repeatedly drew the Burning Gaze on their own chests; it had become some kind of pious ritual.

The angel flew high in the sky, basking in the worship. At the height of their fervor, the angel's head fell off, and the eyes on its wings began to rot.

In an instant, the entire crowd fell silent. They stared blankly at the head on the ground, letting the rotting eyes land on them.
