Blood splattered onto Loren, but he had long grown accustomed to it, so he didn’t find it particularly strange.
It was just that this time, the intensity wasn’t as fierce as before. The movements were very light, the damage minimal, to the point where Loren felt a little unaccustomed to it.
Loren had gotten used to high-level engagements, so he was momentarily thrown off.
But it wasn’t until he heard some involuntary sounds that he realized something was wrong. Normally, Mirrorheart had her audio muted by now.
So Loren pried open Mirrorheart’s hand that was covering his eyes, and then he saw Corolla. But Corolla was biting her lip at this moment, looking somewhat pained. Even when she noticed Loren’s gaze, she didn’t react at all.
Having no choice, Loren could only use the Justice Card to store some of the damage for now. It was only then that Corolla adapted, her expression easing.
“Wait… you…?”
At this point, there was nothing Loren could do but accept reality.
And now that Mirrorheart no longer needed to cover Loren’s eyes, she simply started giving direct guidance instead.
……
Afterward, Loren helped clean Corolla up. This was still a beginner match, not suitable for high-intensity combat. They stopped after one round.
Loren let out a sigh. He would let Corolla rest well for the remaining time.
Things like this happening didn’t affect Loren much. It was perfectly normal.
He could tell that she liked him. That wasn’t to say Loren was narcissistic, but it was only natural that someone would like Loren. He was handsome, powerful, high-status, and had leadership skills.
This was also evident from the Church members. They were very willing to work under Loren, and he made them feel secure.
A man with that kind of sense of security was the easiest to fall for. Loren still remembered that Scarecrow who dreamed of marrying him.
If Church members were like that, it was even more true for the maids at home. It was normal for them to develop secret feelings for Loren through their daily interactions.
In situations like this, Loren’s status actually became an obstacle to their falling for him.
But Corolla saw this very clearly.
Not a word was spoken that night.
The next day, Corolla felt unwell and didn’t come out to work. Loren explained the situation to the other maids. Seraphina kept her smile, showing no emotion, while Flossie’s smile was a bit more thought-provoking.
After grabbing a quick bite, Loren walked out of the house. Having just acquired the Zombie Virus, he planned to find some death row inmates to experiment on.
After Loren left, Mirrorheart sidled up to Seraphina:
“Corolla beat you to it.”
“Mm, I know. She’s been thinking about this for a while. I just never expected she would go ask you for help. Otherwise, she’d never dare to bring up this idea to the master in her entire life.”
At that, Seraphina suddenly changed her tone:
“Is something big about to happen?”
“You guess. Anyway, I hope you won’t interfere with the master’s plans. And besides, you shouldn’t be here.”
Mirrorheart put on a riddler act. If Loren were here, he’d punch her for it, even though for her, that was a reward.
……
“Master Mentor!”
The prison warden immediately bowed to Loren when he saw him.
“I need to test something right now. Find me some death row inmates, and summon the Bishop for me as well.”
After a moment of thought, Loren decided it was best not to publicize the matter of the Zombie Virus.
The Bountiful Church had quite a few spies, and news could easily reach the Plague Church.
What Loren wanted was to let them keep pouring their efforts into researching the Zombie Virus, all while being unaware that Loren had already cracked it.
If they managed to develop some other virus, Loren would have more trouble on his hands.
“How many death row inmates do you need, Master Mentor?”
“The more, the better. I’ll wait for you here.”
“Yes, sir…”
The warden nodded, then began instructing those around him to bring Loren the death row inmates, while he himself went to notify the Bishop.
This was also an opportunity for him to gain face in front of the Bishop.
Several guards led Loren into the dungeon, and one guard even carried a chair in for him.
Once inside the dungeon, the guard set down the chair for Loren, and the other guards began bringing in death row inmates one after another. Soon, the place was filled with people, and before long, the Bishop also arrived.
“Alright, everyone else can leave now.”
Having the Bishop was enough. Loren’s plan was to report the results to the Church after the experiment was done, so directly calling the Bishop here was perfect.
“But Master Mentor, what if they threaten you?”
“Are you suggesting you’re stronger than me?”
Facing the warden’s doubt, the Bishop retorted. He knew full well the warden was just trying to claim credit.
“My apologies, I didn’t mean that. We’ll be going now…”
The warden apologized, then led the others away. Only then did the Bishop start speaking with Loren:
“Master Mentor, what is it that you’re planning to do?”
“I obtained the Plague Church’s secret weapon, and I’m going to run an experiment here.”
“!”
William hadn’t revealed what he had seen, so people still weren’t clear about the Plague Church’s affairs yet.
Thus, when the Bishop saw the syringe Loren was holding, his face showed an expression of utter shock, though he quickly returned to normal.
After all, it was Loren. This was to be expected.
“So this is why you needed these death row inmates?”
“That’s right. Before starting the experiment, I need to disinfect them.”
Saying this, Loren took out a scroll. As the scroll emitted light, a wave of flames swept over the death row inmates, immediately followed by bursts of anguished howls.
This wasn’t ordinary fire. The scroll was blank, and Loren had just taken the opportunity to release the Sin-Burning Flames.
This was the Sin-Burning Flames at minimum damage. Even so, it burned the skin of these death row inmates, proving that their death sentences were no wrongful conviction.
In a sense, this was also Loren’s contribution. Because Loren was here, wrongful and false cases were rare in this place.
“Alright, now then, I’ll trouble you to restrain them.”
“Yes, sir…”
The Bishop activated his magic, and plants restrained all of the death row inmates.
Then, Loren injected the virus into some of them. He controlled the variables carefully, locking them away in separate cells.
Loren wanted to test whether the virus could be transmitted through the air, so he deliberately restrained one infected individual and locked him in an airtight cell with an uninfected death row inmate.
At the same time, Loren silently counted the time. After thirty minutes, the virus had already spread throughout the infected person’s body and activated on the spot. He thrashed around, snapping his jaws at the air.
Loren slit open his stomach with a knife. The internal organs were completely intact, showing no signs of digestion yet.
So Loren set another death row inmate on fire, using his burning heat to melt the snow within the body of the other infected person. Soon, that infected individual returned to normal.
