"Is this the Witches' Church hideout?"
Loren arrived at a patch of woods. It was out in the wild, a fair distance from the nearest God of Plague territory, and not far from the coast.
"Yes, this is the temporary hideout. Witches we rescued are brought here."
Caroline led the group deeper into the trees and added:
"Normal people can't find this place. Only those who bear Older Sister's mark can enter. Anyone else must hold our hands to get in."
As she spoke, Caroline reached out to grab Loren's hand, hinting frantically.
"Not yet. I'm going to run an experiment."
Loren didn't take Caroline's hand. He strode straight toward the heart of the woods.
"I'll see if I can enter on my own."
"Alright."
Caroline looked a little disappointed, but she still took the others' hands and walked into the woods.
After they had gone a short distance, Loren suddenly felt like he had passed through something. He then heard Caroline say:
"Okay, we're inside the sanctuary. Our living quarters are ahead."
Caroline pointed ahead. Loren saw a small wooden hut, plain and modest. This was where the witches lived.
So the Secret Witch's wards couldn't affect Loren at all.
Caroline led everyone into the hut. Inside were two witches, one large and one small. Both bore wounds and looked depressed.
Not every witch had been as fortunate as Caroline; the others had not received Loren's help.
"Master Mentor..."
Seeing Loren, the witch inside stood up. She recognized him.
After learning what Loren had done, her respect for him had deepened.
Before, her respect had been due to the Secret Witch's orders; now it came from her heart.
Willing to stand against the nine Orthodox Gods for the witches, Loren had long become the witches' most admired figure.
"Thank you for your hard work..."
Although Loren didn't know this witch personally, he stepped forward and patted her head. Despite her many injuries, she managed a smile.
Her wounds were bound in a crude manner, as if just wrapped with gauze. The bandages were already stained red with blood.
"I'll take these bandages off for you. After I finish, drink this. That way of wrapping will impede healing."
Loren shoved several bottles of Healing Potion into the witch's arms and began to unwrap her bandages.
"Hiss..."
The witch sucked in a breath from the pain but didn't move an inch.
The moment the bandages were removed, the witch downed the potion in one gulp. Her wounds visibly healed before Loren's eyes.
"Next is you."
Loren handed a Magical Potion to the smaller witch. Her clear eyes fixed on Loren, sweeping away the previous despair. Hope began to bloom in them.
"Drink it quickly."
Her bandages had already been removed, but the little witch had forgotten to drink the potion, just staring at Loren. Only when he reminded her did she swallow it.
"All done."
After treating their wounds, Loren found an empty spot to sit and asked about the witches:
"Where's Chloe?"
Chloe was the Secret Witch's true name, and unlike the other Orthodox Gods, she did not avoid her given name.
After all, the other Orthodox Gods aimed to abandon their human identities entirely and become true gods, while Chloe had only ever wanted to remain human.
"Older Sister went to deal with the Orthodox Gods. We don't know about the others..."
"I see..."
Loren wasn't surprised. After all, Chloe was a god too; she wouldn't stay in the mortal realm forever.
"Is it just you all here? What about the other witches?"
"The Witches' Church witches were sent to search different places. Those who couldn't fight were left in the Whispering Woods. Caroline should have stayed there too..."
"I understand..."
Loren guessed Caroline might have gone dark there, and his arrival had prevented her complete corruption. Although his presence had deprived Caroline of the chance for a sudden power breakthrough, that was for the best—at least she wouldn't have to suffer.
"This place is not far from the sea. The route is mostly open wilds, relatively safe. We can split up now.
"But you can also stay here and wait. Wait until I come back and then set off, or you could simply remain here."
Loren trusted the Secret Witch's authority. With her power in effect, the Orthodox Gods couldn't detect them.
In a sense, the Secret Witch's authority was even more useful than the Hermit card. The Hermit only erased presence, and detection devices could still pick up traces.
"I'll follow you!"
Anna spoke up first. She represented only herself, but the other witches joined in. In the end, no one chose to stay behind.
"Very well, since it came to this, let's split up."
Before leaving, Loren told Scarlett to stay behind and left a huge stockpile of Magical Potions—likely enough for witches across the whole world.
Whenever Loren had downtime he brewed potions; his reserves were now terrifyingly vast.
"Do you need some money?"
Scarlett reminded Loren, worried. She was terrified of poverty and feared running out of funds.
"No. Extra weight will slow me down. If I need money, I can just seize it from nobles.
"By the way, Seraphina, none of you have the Sea God's blessing. Stay here with Caroline."
After finishing his instructions, Loren flew off without hesitation.
They were running out of time; wasting even a second could cause disaster.
The Orthodox Gods were searching the world for him. They might very well get involved personally.
The last time an Orthodox God intervened personally was when Loren had summoned the God of Fear; the last time the gods intervened was when the Goddess of Love used Noah's wife's body to descend.
"Master..."
Caroline stared blankly at Loren's departing figure. When his silhouette disappeared, she suddenly felt a void in her chest. They had only just reunited, and now he was leaving again.
Caroline had a bad premonition. This parting might last an unknown, long time.
"Master has left. Let's begin our operation. You stay here, especially you, Seraphina."
Loren departed, and Mirrorheart resumed command. After stressing Seraphina's importance, she turned to leave.
"Wait!"
Before Mirrorheart could go, Seraphina grabbed her arm:
"Could Master get into trouble?"
"He won't on this trip."
Mirrorheart tried to pry Seraphina's hand off, but she failed. Her strength wasn't as great as Seraphina's.
"I'm not asking about this trip."
"None of your business. If you don't let go I'll cut off my arm."
Mirrorheart had already pulled out a dagger and was ready to slice her own arm.
"He won't be harmed. He promised me."
Lilith took both Mirrorheart's and Seraphina's hands and pulled them apart.
