"I’m leaving too."

Naclis was silent for a moment, then followed Anna’s steps.

Since Naclis chose to follow Anna, what she planned to do would be the same as Anna’s.

"I’m leaving too. I just saw something that might be able to resurrect Master Mentor."

After Naclis left, Paqina also departed, heading in a different direction.

"Life and death cannot be reversed…"

"I know."

Paqina answered decisively, so decisively that Mirrorheart felt uneasy.

"What did you see?"

"The Primal Songstress, the god who controls life and death."

Paqina turned back, her smile twisted into something sickly, the light gone from her eyes behind her lenses.

"At worst I’ll just go kill the Songstress. This crappy rule must have a loophole."

"…"

Mirrorheart did not stop Paqina, she only watched her leave in silence.

At the same time, Movila scattered into a flock of crows.

Without Loren, Movila had no reason to remain human; becoming crows clearly suited her better.

But even the crows she became were changing: sharp fangs grew from their beaks, their talons sharpened, and an extra red eye appeared on each—eyes identical to Loren’s.

"Aren’t you going to eat something before you leave…"

Mirrorheart looked at the rising blood moon, trying to call them back, but no one listened.

The people around her dwindled, and Mirrorheart felt a growing loneliness.

With Loren gone, the glue holding this family together had vanished, and the household had fallen apart.

"I’m leaving too."

Luna rose into the air; this time she didn’t transform.

Mirrorheart knew Luna couldn’t fly before, yet now she headed straight for the moon.

The moonlight radiating from Luna nearly outshone the blood moon, and her Arcane Ability had transformed.

Starnight flew up from another direction, and after reaching a certain height she reverted into the Starry Sky Whale—this time looking unspent.

"Only a few of us are left."

Mirrorheart mused. It had been lively before; now only she, Scarlett, and Lilith remained.

"The moment someone important dies is not the most painful.

"After a while, something will happen that suddenly reminds you of the person you cared for most, but they are already gone.

"That moment is the real torment.

"Right now everyone is still in the first stage, unable to accept reality, thinking this is too sudden, thinking it’s a nightmare, still numb…"

Scarlett had already put away the Box of Sin, hugging her knees and sitting on the ground, lost.

She seemed not to have heard Mirrorheart’s words, only staring silently at the campfire. The firelight reflected in the lenses Loren had ground for her.

Seeing that no one was going to eat, Mirrorheart extinguished the fire she had just made.

"Scarlett, we’re going back to the Witches' Church hideout for a while. Will you come with us?"

Scarlett didn’t react. Mirrorheart stepped forward and patted her.

"You all go. I want to stay here a bit."

"Alright. We’ll be at the hideout for some time. You can come find us whenever."

"Mm."

Scarlett replied softly without looking up.

Even with the fire out, she continued to stare at that spot.

"Okay, goodbye."

Mirrorheart took Lilith’s hand and walked toward the hideout.

"Can Scarlett really find the hideout? Isn’t there a protective ward?"

On the way back, Lilith asked suddenly.

"Don’t worry, Scarlett will get us back…"

Mirrorheart had faith in Scarlett, but Lilith didn’t understand.

Scarlett usually acted helpless, to the point where Loren practically handled everything for her, yet Mirrorheart trusted Scarlett so completely now.

Lilith didn’t press the matter further. Though she didn’t understand, she chose to trust Mirrorheart.

Mirrorheart had no idea how long they walked before finally returning to the forest where the hideout was located.

Once there, Mirrorheart’s pace slowed; her steps grew smaller until Lilith had to pull her along.

"Lilith, aren’t you worried about our master?"

Before entering the hideout, Mirrorheart suddenly stopped and asked this.

"He promised to come find me first. I believe Master Mentor.

"But I still miss him…"

Lilith’s mood sank as she spoke.

Mirrorheart sighed, then led Lilith into the hideout. This was the first time Mirrorheart showed sorrow.

Lilith did not ask how Mirrorheart had bypassed the wards; it seemed routine to her.

"Welcome home. Where is Master?"

Just inside the hideout, Lilith saw Seraphina standing guard at the entrance.

She wore casual clothes now, which in no way diminished her charm; if anything, it gave her a different beauty.

That perfect face looked flawless in any outfit.

But Seraphina’s expression was extremely cold, her usual smile gone.

"Dead."

"Dead?"

At Mirrorheart’s answer, Seraphina grabbed Mirrorheart by the throat and lifted her up.

"Is this how you protected Master? Do you know how hard it was for me to see him again…"

Tears streamed down Seraphina’s face as she began to shout, disregarding dignity.

"Do you know? Do you know how much I missed him? We were reunited for less than two years!"

"Do you know…"

Her roar dissolved into sobs. Seraphina let go of Mirrorheart and crouched on the ground herself.

"Who did it?"

Seraphina lifted her head slightly, eyes reddened, gasping between sobs.

"The God of Light and Fire."

"Okay."

Seraphina wiped her tears and stood up. Six pairs of pure white wings sprouted from her back, giving her a holy appearance.

She didn’t hesitate further; she flapped her wings to fly away.

"Wait!"

The instant Seraphina lifted off, Mirrorheart grabbed her ankle and yanked her back down.

Seraphina didn’t speak. She smashed Mirrorheart’s skull with a single fist.

Brain and blood spattered; Mirrorheart’s body went lifeless, collapsing to the ground.

"You won’t go avenge him, and you try to stop me?"

Seraphina looked at Mirrorheart’s corpse with utter coldness.

"Master is gone, our authority is incomplete. You’re no match for the God of Light and Fire.

"If you die, Master will only be more devastated."

Mirrorheart’s voice sounded behind Seraphina. She had appeared behind Seraphina, even though her corpse still lay on the ground.

"I really don’t understand why Master chose you."

Seraphina turned to face Mirrorheart again. Blood still stained her hands.

Mirrorheart did not answer; her single crimson eye stared at Seraphina in silence.

In the end, Seraphina did not strike again. She silently flew into the distance.

"You’re very sad, aren’t you."

Lilith suddenly hugged Mirrorheart, having somehow removed her eyepatch. Her black eye met Mirrorheart’s gaze.

"Mm."

Mirrorheart admitted it calmly. Though her expression remained unchanged, tears still uncontrollably streamed down her face.
