After finishing breakfast, Loren felt a deep sense of guilt.
It was nothing else—the feeling of luring a child was just too strong.
Honestly, whatever Loren said, Veronica did. Even though she didn't understand the meaning behind it, she still followed through completely.
She didn't spill a single drop.
"I'm guilty..."
Loren sat on the edge of the bed, head lowered, face buried in his hands, starting to confess.
"What's suddenly wrong with you?"
Veronica lay on Loren's lap, looking up at his face from below.
"Nothing..."
"That dessert was delicious. Can I eat it again next time?"
"..."
Loren fell silent. He didn't know how to answer, so he changed the subject instead:
"Get dressed first. I'll give you a new hairstyle later."
"Okay."
Hearing that Loren was going to style her hair, Veronica instantly perked up. She scrambled to her feet and went to put on her clothes.
Since she had forgotten to wear underwear beneath the tights earlier, Loren chose to put her in panties that could be unfastened.
A bow was tied at the side—one pull and it would come undone.
Veronica wore a light blue sweater on top that matched her hair color, along with a pair of long pants. The pants had slits at the ankles, revealing the black stockings on her feet.
At the same time, Veronica had on a pair of black high heels with red soles.
This was her first time wearing high heels, and she wasn't used to them. Her walking was a bit unsteady.
"I bought you other shoes. You can change into a different pair."
"Forget it, these are fine. They look really nice."
Veronica admired her outfit in the mirror. Before, no one could see her, so she never cared about her appearance.
But now that Loren could see her, she had to make herself beautiful—only for Loren's eyes.
Veronica excitedly sat on the chair, waiting for Loren to brush her hair.
Loren picked up the comb, first smoothing out Veronica's hair, then began braiding it.
In the end, Loren instinctively wove Veronica's hair into a single braid and draped it over her shoulder.
"..."
This hairstyle was a bit dangerous. Just as Loren was about to change it, Veronica spoke up:
"Wow, this hairstyle is gorgeous! Thank you, Master!"
Veronica suddenly stood up and gave Loren a kiss.
"Alright, let's go with this then..."
Anyway, with Loren around, Veronica wouldn't run into any danger. And besides, this was really just superstitious nonsense.
As long as Veronica liked it, that was what mattered.
...
Violetta could arrive at any time, so Loren didn't leave the hotel.
Loren missed Movila a little. Movila was a very competent information source. If she were here, Loren wouldn't have to keep waiting around like this.
After breakfast, Loren busied himself with sewing Veronica's clothes. Veronica just silently leaned against him.
"Master, didn't you raise many witches? Where did all the other witches go?
"They must be sad after leaving you, right? I can't leave you anymore now. Their bond with you must be even deeper..."
Veronica suddenly asked this, catching Loren off guard.
There wasn't a hint of jealousy in her voice. She calmly accepted the fact that her master had raised many other witches and even cared about them.
"I don't know where they are either, so I need to find them quickly.
"Once I get the Demon Card and give the God of Light and Fire a good slap in the face, I'll set off."
Hearing Veronica say this, Loren started worrying about the witches too.
He wondered if Anna could eat her fill without him, if Naclis could stand on her own, if Scarlett could live well without anyone to care for her.
Luna had just lost her parents, then lost him—could she handle it?
Movila was used to being a pet. He wondered if she could adapt to life in the wild. Same with Starnight. She had only just revealed her identity to Loren, and then they were separated.
She hadn't even had a chance to say more than a few words to Loren, and Loren hadn't had time to figure out how she became a Starry Sky Whale.
Loren worried that Paqina would turn out like Noah—doing anything, paying any price, to try and resurrect Loren.
She was a researcher by nature, especially skilled at studying magic. She might end up doing something dangerous.
As for Lilith, Loren wasn't too worried. She had already learned magic to block sunlight. Even without Loren, she would be fine.
Besides, that silly girl was probably the only one who truly believed Loren would resurrect. And she wasn't a witch, so the Church wasn't a threat to her.
She was probably hiding somewhere right now, waiting for Loren.
Loren had promised her that after resurrection, he would find her first. He just didn't know where to go, so he could only check her old house first.
Laila might collapse after learning what happened to Loren, because she had left him at the most critical moment.
But all the witches had Laila's marks on them, so she could find them through those marks.
She might step up and take on the role of a guardian next, but it was more likely she would seek revenge at any cost.
Loren had a pretty good idea of Cecelia's situation. She was fine—just that the range of her influence had expanded a bit more.
He had thought she would start an uprising at any cost to avenge him. But she didn't. She swallowed this blood-deep hatred, biding her time for the day she could completely crush the Orthodox Gods.
But that came at a price. Loren knew Cecelia's personality. She was probably being tormented by hatred and regret every day now.
She had matured.
The one Loren worried about least was Mirrorheart. She knew Loren would resurrect, and she had used the Unabandoned Casket to send him a message confirming she was safe.
At most, she had been holding it in for four years—a bit stifled. But she might also be treating this as a form of "sitting game," secretly enjoying it.
"Are you thinking about them?"
Veronica suddenly asked, and Loren admitted openly:
"Yeah."
"I'm here with you now. Don't be sad..."
Veronica didn't get jealous. She simply chose to embrace Loren directly.
"Mm."
Loren stroked Veronica's hair and responded with a smile.
...
Time passed quickly. It was already night.
At lunch, under Veronica's strong insistence, Loren gave her an extra serving as an appetizer dessert.
At night, a knock sounded at Loren's door.
When he checked into the hotel, he had emphasized that no one should come looking for him. So now, only one person could be visiting.
Loren went to open the door. Outside stood a woman in white.
Her pristine white dress was stained with dried blood, looking somewhat disgusting.
Paired with her face, she looked exactly like a vengeful spirit straight out of a horror movie.
"Castio is here. Let's start the plan."
