Miss Witch’s Devotion Has Gone… Twisted

Chapter 569: The Witch Among the Sun-Chasers

“Just you wait—the Sun-Chasers will come to kill you. They’re almost here…”

“Are you done yapping?”

Loren yawned, casually slashing down another fanatical believer who charged at him, sword in hand.

There were quite a few people coming, and Loren couldn’t be bothered to use his snap-of-the-fingers killing method anymore. A single sword stroke was far more efficient.

They’d been staying here for a while now, so long that weeds had overgrown the ground. Loren had cast Return to Earth so many times that the soil here was now exceptionally fertile.

Loren toyed with the crystal ball in his hand—he’d just snatched one a moment ago to make finding witches easier.

At first, Veronica was still worried about Loren, but after seeing him casually crush those people like bugs, she set her concerns aside.

Now she was lying across his lap, basking in his gentle strokes. Even if someone came, Loren could kill them without ever needing to stand up.

The fact that no angel had descended after all this time meant they were genuinely busy.

He could totally massacre the entire city during this window—wipe out every last believer of the God of Light and Fire. He wouldn’t even need to personally strike at that deity. Other gods would tear Him apart, or He’d just go insane from the loss.

But Loren’s moral bar was still set a little too high. He couldn’t bring himself to do it.

It was probably exactly because the God of Light and Fire knew this about Loren that He hadn’t bothered to stop her.

After all, if He didn’t interfere, the worst that happened was losing a few believers and having Loren walk off with some witches.

If He actually rushed back over this? The losses would be far worse than that.

And the God of Light and Fire knew perfectly well that there was no place for witches in His domain. The few that remained had already been taken away by the Witches’ Church, and the Secret Witch herself had come to collect them.

Loren had been running rampant this whole time. Not only had he burned every flag of the God of Light and Fire, but he’d also had Veronica use her Arcane Ability to erect a symbol of the Perpetual Observer atop the church.

Now, the first thing anyone entering the Royal Capital saw was the inverted cross with an eye, not the sun.

The wandering souls chanting slogans had been cleaned up by the Church by now, but Loren had already achieved his goal. He’d used the Sun Card to make everyone remember that chant.

It might not do much in the short term, but it was a seed of discord planted deep.

Those wandering souls were just ones he’d casually controlled at the start anyway. Dead was dead—Loren didn’t mourn them.

“I’m a bit hungry, but given the situation, going out to eat is a little inconvenient.”

“Wait here. I’ll bring you back some food.”

Veronica sat up, ready to go foraging for Loren.

“Forget it. I have a feeling—they should be here soon.”

No sooner had he said those words than a wave of scorching heat surged in through the church’s entrance. This time, the visitor was no ordinary person.

“Loren, Master of Witches—today is your death day.”

The one leading them wore blazing armor, decked out like a knight, with a helmet on her head.

She raised her knightly sword, pointing it straight at Loren.

This whole group was made up of Sun-Chasers. Only the one at the front still looked human.

Even though she wore a helmet, Loren could see that inside it, there was still a human head.

“An elite individual?”

Loren was familiar with this situation. Not all Divine Envoys lost their human appearance. They only twisted themselves into those hideous forms to get closer to the Orthodox Gods and draw more power.

If their own strength was sufficient, they didn’t need to mutate much—like Valentina, the one Loren had encountered at the very start.

The other Scarecrows were covered head to toe in straw, but she still had a human face.

The moment their leader shouted that declaration, the Sun-Chasers surged forward.

Ever since he first transmigrated, Loren had treated these ordinary Divine Envoys like cannon fodder. Now, he cared even less about them.

While the others charged, that elite individual never budged.

Seeing this, Loren had a guess.

Loren swung his blade, cutting two Sun-Chasers in half before him, then casually shot out a Blood Moon Condensed Light that wiped out every last Sun-Chaser in his path.

Any other Sun-Chasers who tried to get close were cut down with a single, lazy stroke of Loren’s sword as he steadily approached that special individual.

“He’s killed so many of us! Do something, Captain…”

A Sun-Chaser urged their captain on, but before he could finish, a Crimson Blade from Loren ended him.

As Loren drew nearer, the captain didn’t advance—she took a step back instead.

At the same time, Loren sensed the emotions churning inside her. What she felt for him wasn’t hatred—it was worry and guilt.

Just as Loren was pondering this, the captain suddenly lunged forward, thrusting her sword straight at him. But Loren felt no killing intent at all, so he didn’t counterattack—he simply sidestepped to dodge.

The captain couldn’t stop her momentum and kept charging forward. Loren casually snatched her helmet off.

In an instant, golden hair spilled out like a waterfall. When her face was revealed, even the flames imbued with the authority of light seemed to dim slightly.

A few strands of hair stuck to the corner of her lips. The look in her eyes as she gazed at Loren carried a hint of grievance—pitiful enough to melt anyone’s heart. There was no trace of the so-called Sun-Chaser captain in that expression.

Before Loren could react, a Sun-Chaser behind him swung a blade at his back.

Loren didn’t dodge or block. He just wanted to see what the captain would do.

Sure enough, when she realized Loren had hesitated after seeing her face, she panicked. Without a second thought, she stabbed her sword straight at him.

The blade scraped past Loren’s waist and ran through the Sun-Chaser behind him.

“Captain…”

The eye flickering in the flame atop that Sun-Chaser’s head stared at the captain in disbelief before slowly losing its light.

In that instant, the remaining Sun-Chasers turned their blades on the captain.

“Since I’ve found you, let’s speed things up.”

Blood Moon Condensed Light gathered at Loren’s fingertips. He wrapped an arm around the captain and spun lightly, and the remaining Sun-Chasers were all slaughtered on the spot.

“Done.”

“You’ve killed so many of my comrades… I’ll make you pay!”

Seeing the scene before her, the captain snapped. She shoved Loren away and thrust her sword at him again.

Loren sidestepped the knight’s blade, clamped the captain under his arm, and gave her a couple of smacks on the rear.

Through the armor, he barely felt a thing—but the humiliation it brought the captain was no less intense.

“Alright. The outsiders are all dead. You don’t have to act anymore.”

With that, Loren let her go. She instantly stood docilely before him.

At the same time, Loren realized something—his current power was too overwhelming. Many storylines couldn’t even play out properly.

Normally, this was supposed to be the part where Loren was surrounded by Sun-Chasers, fighting a desperate battle, while this captain struggled through her act, eventually letting him go, promising to meet again, and having some emotional moment.

Instead, Loren killed all the Sun-Chasers in seconds.
