MMORPG: Birth of the World's Luckiest Player
Chapter 596: The Ambushing LeopardRed Thunder Valley lay deep within Ten-Thunder Mountain, and reaching it was far from simple. Before they could even approach the valley, they had to fight their way through wave after wave of high-level monsters.
Over the past three hours, they had already carved a path through the territories of Thunderbirds, Thunder-Eared Rabbits, Lightning Hedgehogs, Thunder Mountain Spirits, and several other monster groups hovering around Level 70. Now, they had reached the territory of a pack of Level 80 Thunder Fang Wolves.
And beyond them waited even more monsters above Level 80.
If Marcus had been traveling alone, simply reaching Red Thunder Valley would have been a tremendous challenge, let alone hunting the Mythic Beast Heavenly Thunder Leopard waiting somewhere within it. With the two princesses leading the way, however, he barely needed to do anything at all. He kept his knight buffs active, stayed close behind them, and let the two sisters handle the fighting. Man, this was the life.
"Phoenix Flame!"
Princess Phoenix cast another powerful support skill. Crimson light erupted from her Phoenix Flame Armor, surrounding her body in flickering fire and making the already proud and elegant woman appear as though she were wrapped in living flames. With the Phoenix Feather Shield raised on one arm and the Phoenix Heaven-Piercing Sword gripped firmly in the other, she charged straight toward the Thunder Fang Wolves, her Immortal Phoenix sweeping alongside her.
The wolves reacted immediately. "Wolf Fang Lightning!" From more than twenty meters away, the Thunder Fang Wolves opened their mouths and launched crackling bolts of lightning toward Princess Phoenix. At the same time, they lunged forward, preparing to tear her apart with their powerful Thunder Bite.
The difference in strength between them, however, was simply too great. More than twenty bolts of lightning slammed into the protective flames surrounding Princess Phoenix, yet each one dealt only around a hundred points of damage. She did not even slow down. She simply endured the barrage and waited until the wolves had closed to within ten meters.
Then she attacked. "Phoenix Blazing Spin!" Princess Phoenix swung her Phoenix Heaven-Piercing Sword, and the weapon immediately erupted into a whirlwind of fiery blades. The spinning attack tore through the air with a furious roar, sweeping across the pack of wolves before her.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A cascade of explosive flames swallowed the battlefield.
Every Thunder Fang Wolf caught within the attack’s five-meter width and fifteen-meter range suffered more than 120,000 damage. Their bodies collapsed before they could even reach Princess Phoenix, their deadly Thunder Bites never having a chance to land. In an instant, the entire pack had been annihilated, leaving behind nothing but the items they had dropped.
Marcus stared. ’Unbelievably strong.’ His own area attacks could barely inflict three thousand damage on these Level 80 monsters, yet Princess Phoenix had wiped out an entire group as casually as someone brushing dust from their clothes. The difference between them was not merely large; it was terrifying.
For a moment, Marcus even wondered whether Princess Phoenix could fight a Divine Beast by herself, and that was before taking her own Divine Beast into consideration. She was a monster. And Princess Celeste had said her sister could only "fight" a low-level Divine Beast? Who was she kidding? Marcus was not gullible enough to believe that.
Still, watching Princess Phoenix tear through the monsters gave him a sobering realization. His supposedly overpowered abilities were nowhere near the peak of strength in this world. The Four Demon Sovereigns possessed power on this same level, and compared with beings like them, he was still little more than an ant.
He needed to become stronger, much, much stronger.
While Marcus was lost in thought, the Immortal Phoenix suddenly swept past Princess Phoenix and flew toward the next group of Thunder Fang Wolves.
"Phoenix Flame!"
The magnificent Divine Beast spread its elegant crimson wings, and a vast wave of flames surged outward, sweeping across the battlefield like a burning tide.
Princess Phoenix was a knight, so her greatest strength naturally lay in defense and sustained combat. Her Immortal Phoenix, however, was an entirely different story. It was an offensive powerhouse, a creature born for destruction. The result was obvious.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The next group of Thunder Fang Wolves was struck by the wave of flames, each wolf suffering more than 150,000 damage. They were wiped out almost instantly, and without even pausing, Princess Phoenix continued toward the next group.
Marcus did not need to do anything. He simply rode leisurely atop Blackie while Princess Celeste flew alongside him on her Holy Light Wings. The two of them chatted as they traveled, occasionally taking in the strange and magnificent scenery of Ten-Thunder Mountain while following the path Princess Phoenix and the Immortal Phoenix had already carved through the monster hordes.
Every now and then, a few Thunder Fang Wolves managed to slip through the gaps and attack them from the flanks, but Marcus still did not need to lift a finger.
"Blazing Flame Strike!" Princess Celeste beat her Holy Light Wings, drawing upon the lingering fire energy that filled the air after the Immortal Phoenix’s attacks. Her Five-Element Staff flashed brightly as she released a powerful fire spell.
The flames split apart in midair, transforming into two enormous serpents of searing fire that shot toward the approaching wolves.
-60,000! -60,000!
Two attacks, sixty thousand damage each. The Thunder Fang Wolves collapsed more than twenty meters away, dead before they could even reach them.
Marcus had seriously underestimated this girl. As an Arch-Sorcerer, Princess Celeste possessed far more combat power than he had initially expected. Her offensive magic was already frightening, but she was not merely an attack mage either. With her mastery of Water-element spells, she could also use powerful recovery magic to heal her sister during battle.
There was no question about it. Princess Celeste was more than strong enough to kill Marcus in a single attack.
But damn, was she smug. Every time she killed a wolf, she would turn her head and give Marcus a proud little look, as though silently demanding that he acknowledge how impressive she was.
Marcus could only smile and praise her from time to time. The three of them continued cutting through the wolf territory, with Marcus benefiting from the experience Princess Phoenix’s kills provided while collecting the loot scattered across the ground. About twenty minutes later, they were finally approaching the edge of the area.
Marcus was still thinking about how he might eventually persuade Princess Celeste to ride with him on Blackie when something strange happened. About thirty meters to their right, a flash of lightning suddenly erupted from what appeared to be empty air.
Crack! A massive surge of electrical energy burst outward, illuminating the surrounding forest for an instant. Before Marcus or Princess Celeste had time to react, the lightning condensed into a solid form.
A huge creature appeared. At first glance, it looked exactly like a leopard, but there was something distinctly unnatural about it. A pair of horns shimmering with lightning rose from its head, while its entire body crackled with blue electrical energy. Arc after arc of electricity danced across its fur, and its eyes gleamed with cold, predatory intent.
It had been hiding there the entire time, waiting, lurking, ambushing them. Marcus’s expression changed instantly.
"Heavenly Thunder Explosion!" Without giving them the slightest warning, the leopard opened its jaws and unleashed a devastating bolt of thunder directly at Marcus and Princess Celeste.
