MMORPG: Surviving a Death Game with a Glitched System
Chapter 32: Budding SynergyAsh loomed over the edge, looking down at the Seal Scrawlers frolicking about.
’I have two shots remaining...’
The three arrows he’d shot at the hunter hadn’t returned to his inventory when he’d unequipped the bow, but the un-shot two had.
He surmised he could reclaim an arrow, supposing it was in good condition, if he physically gripped it. Any shot he let off down the side of the mountain into the haze was likely unretrievable.
Yet, Ash was preparing to fire a shot off nonetheless.
Ash cast a glance over his shoulder.
"Are you ready, Vera?"
"Yes."
His gaze carried over to the wolf who was intently observing them. The wolf gave a light nod, signaling she sensed nobody in the area. After letting out a slight huff, Ash faced forward and cast [Focus].
He wasn’t particularly adept with the bow, but still let off a shot with unbridled confidence.
Whether it be due to luck or skill, the arrow sailed down the cliff and struck one of the monstros Seal Scrawlers in the back.
The creature of harrowing proportions instantly spun in thair direction and began crawling toward them.
Ash willed the bow to return to his inventory, causing it to slowly fade in wisps of smoke.
[You have unequipped [Starter Bow]]
As it flung its misproportioned body toward him, Ash thought to himself:
’I wonder why its called Seal Scrawler...’
The system had given it such a name, yet its appearance suggested little to do with scrawling. Meaning its name might be more symbolic than descriptive.
Either way, killing it was priority over frivilous reflection about its name.
Holding his hand by his side, Ash began to jump away while summoning the dagger.
[You have equipped [Scrawler’s Fang]]
Strands of white that looked like tendons stretched and paulled themselves taut while twining together. Once the loose shape of the dagger formed it hardened and settled in his grasp.
Ash didn’t typicaly hold appreatiotion for animations or graphics, but seeing the formation in real life caused a slight sense of wonder to fill him.
Though that wonder was soon defiled by duty as the Seal Scrawler flung its body up into the air and landed directly before Vera.
Wasting no time, it raised its front leg and tried to bring it down on Vera.
Ash yelled:
"Hold your position!"
Vera held her silver shield above her head and pushed outward as the claw collided,
The Seal Scrawler staggered slightly as it’s leg bounced awkwardly to the ground, but it wasted no time in launching a follow up attack with another.
As it did, Ash took his time to observe it from a little ways away,
Particularly, he was focused on the leg’s setae.
The hairs that wiggled and writhed as it struck Vera’s shield again.
’As I thought, it’s like a spider.’
While they couldn’t rule out a keen sense of smell or hearing...
"It senses through vibration."
Vera swung her broadsword at the creature. The Seal Scrawler jumped over the blow.
"How do we take advantage of that?!"
Ash began rushing toward the creature the moment it landed.
Instantly, it flung one of its legs outward toward him.
’Hmm...’
Ash didn’t care to duck or dodge, letting the attack phase through him as he halted his momentum and jumped away.
He didn’t fully understand it, but it could definitely sense him in his glitched state.
The only conclusion he inched toward was it sensed his sandals when he moved. Though he wasn’t entirely certain that was the whole truth.
Either way...
"Get ready to strike."
"Got it!"
Vera flung her shield to the side, wielding the hefty broadsword with both hands.
Ash charged again, slaming his sandals on the ground as hard as he could while waving his dagger through the air.
The Seal Scrawler blindly swung in his direction.
Its leg passed through his chest as he bend his knees and kicked off the ground using all of his newfound strength as a Level 3 Dragonkin.
Above the Seal Scrawler, Ash swung the dagger onto its back.
As he did, Vera closed the gap and began to cleave down toward its head.
Sensing the attack, it tried to jump.
’Knew it...’
Despite Ash possessing not nearly enough strength to hold down the beast, all of its momentum halted as its back crashed into the dagger.
Disoriented and its limbs a little off the ground, it could do nothing as Vera cleanly bisected it.
The front of the Seal Scrawler peeled open, letting a mass of organs to spill out before ultimately disappearing.

Demitra chuckled, then commented:
"Neat trick."
Ash didn’t care to spare the wolf a glance, only concerned with the drops.
In particular, there was a gross slab of green meat sitting by his feet.
"Maybe its edible..."
Vera unsummoned her sword nd shield, then stood next to Ash, looming over the meat.
"Doesn’t particularly look it. Aside from that—"
Ash, knowing what she’d ask, cut her off:
"It was a hypothesis, but I think it only sensed my footsteps. So, it had little reaction to me swinging the dagger. I still can’t be sure of anything. At least not until we hunt more. As for stopping it completely... that’s trade a secret."
Vera laughed a little, then said:
"Is that so?"
At her glee, Ash couldn’t help but lightly smile. But, quickly realizing, he righted his expression.
Stepping away from Vera, he knelt and retrieved the nasty meat, placing it in his inventory.
Aside from that, it had also dropped another Tome.
[You have acquired Rare item: [Tome of Might: Tough Skin]]
To Ash, with [Scale Armor] and glitch, it seemed a bit redundant. But, if he did choose the warrior class, he now had two skills suiting it to choose from.
With such a successful first hunt, and discovering the Seal Scrawlers were a potential food source, the two decided to press their luck. But before that...
It was about time they ate the Marauder meat Cross had distracted them from.
