Mom's Back. The Villain Triplets Are in Trouble.
Chapter 148 - 147: Mentality Completely CollapsedChapter 148: Chapter 147: Mentality Completely Collapsed
"Are you all insane?!" Dongfang Ran roared in a hushed voice. "With so many conscious people in the same dreamscape, it could easily collapse! If it does, everyone will die in the dream!"
Huo Xingchen paused for a moment, then chuckled. "That’s not so bad. At least our whole family will be together."
"You’re mad!!" Dongfang Ran shook her head in disbelief. "You’re all mad!"
Huo Xingchen grinned, turning his head to look at the stage and ignoring her completely.
No matter how frantic Dongfang Ran felt, she didn’t dare make a scene. She had originally planned to cause a major disturbance, but now she had to be as discreet as possible. If she "woke up" the other guests, she wouldn’t make it out of here alive either.
This was a risk one had to take when entering a dream. If she had known so many people were conscious in this dream, she would have died before coming in so easily.
The wedding proceeded smoothly. The next part of the ceremony, traditionally, would be for the newlyweds to go from table to table, offering toasts.
However, Gu Qingyin’s master and Huo Yunjing’s parents were no longer living. The only elder present was Old Madam Huo, but both the human and the ghost very pointedly ignored her. As for everyone else, to be honest, very few were worthy of a toast.
So, Gu Qingyin and Huo Yunjing simply raised their glasses for a toast on stage. Even though the guests below felt it was against convention, they all smiled and raised their glasses from afar. After drinking, they couldn’t help but remark that this wedding truly didn’t stick to the old rules, breaking free from constraints and being wonderfully unrestrained.
With that, the wedding ceremony was considered temporarily concluded.
The wedding banquet began. Everyone ate and chatted, not much different from a normal wedding on the outside.
Dongfang Ran finally found an opportunity and approached Gu Qingyin.
"When do you plan on letting everyone out?"
Gu Qingyin was in a good mood, which made even Dongfang Ran seem less annoying. She countered with her own questions, "Why did you come in? Who sent you? What are you here for?"
Dongfang Ran was rendered speechless.
Gu Qingyin let out a soft chuckle, ignored her, and went to change into her reception dress.
The reception dress was a silver-white, mermaid-style gown embellished with crushed diamonds, paired with a matching diamond jewelry set. It was opulent and luxurious.
Huo Yunjing had also changed into a different suit. It was still black, so at first glance, it seemed he hadn’t changed at all. The differences were only noticeable in the details, like his cufflinks, brooch, and bow tie.
Afterward, Huo Yunjing and Gu Qingyin walked past the Huo Family members and offered toasts to the elders of the Xue, Hua, and Chen Families respectively.
Their three sons followed behind them, not saying a word, just smiling and joining in the toasts.
After toasting the few necessary people at a handful of tables, the family of five returned to the stage and watched the lively banquet below.
"It’s time to end this," Gu Qingyin reminded him.
"Mm," Huo Yunjing nodded. "It’s not good to stay in a dream for too long." He waved his hand, and everyone’s movements froze. Then, a gust of wind blew through, and all the people below scattered with it, vanishing completely.
Behind them, Huo Xingye and Huo Xinghai had also left. Only Huo Xingchen remained.
Huo Xingchen was momentarily stunned, then puffed out his chest and held his head high. ’See! When it comes to metaphysics, I’m the only one who can keep up with Mom and Dad! My big brothers can’t!’
Across from them, Dongfang Ran slowly approached.
"Gu Qingyin, you’ve really sunk so low, entering into a Netherworld Marriage with an Evil Ghost." Dongfang Ran’s eyes were full of disappointment. "And to think I considered you my rival for all these years. Now I see you’re not even worthy!"
’Huh?’ Gu Qingyin was completely baffled. ’What is this woman talking about? She’s the one being overly sentimental and presumptuous, so how can she turn around and blame me, someone who had no part in it?’
’Whether it’s about being rivals or being worthy, aren’t these just Dongfang Ran’s own ideas? Is she saying this now to force them on me and make me feel ashamed?’
Feeling utterly bewildered, Gu Qingyin furrowed her brow and asked, "Are you mentally unwell? Perhaps you have some kind of delusion of grandeur or megalomania?"
Dongfang Ran’s expression turned even uglier. "Gu Qingyin! Don’t be ungrateful!" With a flip of her hand, she produced a cyan longsword, twirling it lightly into a flower pattern at her side. She declared in a grave voice, "Today, I will act on behalf of heaven and eliminate this Evil Ghost!"
Gu Qingyin rolled her eyes. "You know why I can’t stand you? It’s that stuffy, pedantic attitude of yours. The more I see it, the more annoying it is. If you’re jealous that I have such a powerful husband, just say so. Don’t try to hide behind ’acting on behalf of heaven.’"
Huo Yunjing chuckled softly and squeezed Gu Qingyin’s hand.
Dongfang Ran’s face flushed red, though it was unclear if it was from having her true thoughts exposed or from pure anger.
"Die!" she bellowed, raising her sword and charging forward.
Gu Qingyin’s expression turned cold. She drew her Fire Burning Stick and was about to meet the charge, but Huo Yunjing pulled her behind him. "I’ll handle this."
Gu Qingyin stopped and nodded. "Be careful." As Huo Yunjing went to face the attack, she turned to Huo Xingchen and said, "Watch closely. This is how you fight a Heavenly Master."
Huo Xingchen perked up. ’So, I’m supposed to put myself in the shoes of a Fierce Ghost now? Hmm... that’s a little difficult, but I can try.’
Gu Qingyin was also looking forward to it. She had never seen Huo Yunjing fight with his full strength before.
Huo Yunjing calmly and composedly went forward to meet her.
Dongfang Ran snorted coldly. Blue and white arcs of electricity crawled across her cyan longsword.
Huo Yunjing’s movements faltered for a second. He’d been struck by lightning so often recently that he’d developed a complex. But he quickly realized that while he couldn’t resist when his son was the one striking him, right now, he could not only block the attack but also fight back!
With a breath of pent-up frustration, Huo Yunjing let out a low cry. A torrent of ghost energy mixed with Evil Qi erupted from the ground and rushed toward Dongfang Ran.
Dongfang Ran unleashed a charged-up strike. The longsword in her hand coalesced into a nearly three-meter-long Thunder Light Sword Arc, which she swung toward Huo Yunjing.
In the blink of an eye, the Thunder Light Sword Arc and the Ghostly Evil Qi collided in mid-air. After a muffled BOOM, invisible ripples spread out in all directions.
Huo Xingchen was caught off guard, crying out in alarm as the shockwave almost sent him flying.
With quick eyes and even quicker hands, Gu Qingyin grabbed him. "Don’t just stand there like an idiot. Use your Spiritual Power to steady yourself."
Huo Xingchen did as he was told, but it was his first time and the control didn’t come easily. He only barely managed to figure it out by the time the shockwave dissipated.
Before he could even feel regretful, a second shockwave arrived.
He held his breath in anticipation, squatting slightly to lower his center of gravity. When the shockwave hit, he felt a momentary sense of suffocation, but his stance held firm. He had stood his ground on his own!
While focusing on the battle, Gu Qingyin spared him a glance. She had no idea what he was so excited about. She shook her head and sighed. ’What a silly boy.’
Meanwhile, Huo Yunjing and Dongfang Ran were past the probing stage and had entered the final, intense phase of their battle.
Huo Yunjing had only recently become a Ghost Cultivator. Although his combat methods had improved, there were few he had truly mastered.
Right now, the only move he was confident could deal with Dongfang Ran was a Spell that directly targeted the soul. To cast it, he would naturally have to expend his Soul Power.
After all, a ghost is, by its very nature, a fusion of Soul Power and consciousness.
Dongfang Ran, for her part, was also realizing how difficult an opponent Huo Yunjing was.
Her expression was grim. She had previously discovered during a spar that she was no match for Gu Qingyin, and now she couldn’t even defeat a ghost who had only been dead for ten years. Her composure completely shattered!
Dongfang Ran lost all reason. A black-red light flickered in the depths of her eyes, as if something was about to break free from beneath the earth...
