Delron Mage was quite strong—unlike the Armored Soldiers from before, he was powerful enough that his death would produce an Evil Soul. Since Su Zhou didn’t see one, he knew the mage wasn’t dead. Without a moment’s hesitation, he raised his blade again. Azure Thunder Light spread through the water mist, gathering into crackling arcs of electricity that searched for the old mage’s whereabouts.
Just as Su Zhou had thought, Delron Mage wasn’t dead. His head had turned into a ball of water. Now a Spiritual Qi Organ, his head had transformed into a strange slurry that was nearly immune to physical attacks and could rapidly regenerate by absorbing water. The mist gathering around the Duke’s Mansion was the very material he used to heal himself. His body had already mostly re-formed, though it looked like a phantom—a Ghost condensed from water.
’No way. This mysterious Wilderness Wanderer is ridiculously strong, almost as powerful as the Duke was in his prime at the peak of the Elite Tier. I can’t fight him head-on. I have to wait for Set and Alfonso to get here before we can face him!’
Even at a great disadvantage, Delron was still thinking clearly. Tentacles erupted from its body, like those of a giant octopus—this was its true form; the human shape was merely a disguise. The tentacles twisted together into the shape of a drill, and as water swirled around them, they began to spin rapidly.
It clearly had no intention of surfacing. Instead, it was digging its way underground to hide until its reinforcements arrived, only then would it consider a counterattack.
But if the enemy’s combat sense was sharp, Su Zhou’s was even sharper. His aura abruptly shifted again, transforming into a raging inferno.
Touching down in a flash, Su Zhou plunged his blade into the earth. The Blade of Annihilation, its steel already glowing golden-red, unleashed immense heat that instantly vaporized the moisture in the wet ground, causing it to dry and crack. A despairing, agonized wail echoed from beneath the earth.
Soon, a bizarre humanoid figure, a hybrid of an octopus and a man, shot out from the steam-belching hole in the ground. Its body was composed entirely of a blue liquid and a translucent Spirit Body, making it immune to most physical attacks.
But even a body like this was now rapidly evaporating and shrinking under the intense heat. By the time Su Zhou pulled the Blade of Annihilation from the ground and slowly approached, it had shriveled to little more than the size of a man’s fist. A pale blue Evil Soul then floated up from the ground.
It was dead.
After collecting the Evil Soul, Su Zhou briefly sensed two distant Elite Tier auras, which now seemed to be hesitating. He smiled, took to the sky again, and flew rapidly toward the closer of the two enemies, the one located inside the city.
By now, the residents living nearby had noticed the series of rapid clashes. They cautiously opened their doors, only to be stunned by the sight. The Duke’s Mansion, which had stood in the very heart of the city for a thousand years, had endured countless raids by the undead, sieges by Magical Beasts, and even direct assaults from Flying Magical Beasts without so much as a scratch. But now, it had mostly collapsed. What little remained had been baptized in thunderbolt and flame, leaving it a charred ruin.
"Did someone just attack the Duke’s Mansion?"
"Could it be? Has the Duke’s heir returned?!"
"But isn’t the Naisel family skilled with water and the Earth Element? Those flashes just now were clearly Flame and Thunder Light, right?"
"What do we do? Should we go fight the fire? If the flames spread, everything around here will be burned to the ground!"
"You go, if you dare. Huh? The fire’s out?"
Meanwhile, Elias cast an Invisibility Technique on himself, then hurriedly used his magic to extinguish the flames on the Duke’s Mansion with a torrent of water. At this point, he no longer thought Su Zhou needed to be cautious at all. Given his strength, even if all three of them ganged up on him, Su Zhou would probably run circles around them. If anything, it was Elias himself who needed to be careful to avoid being killed by the aftershocks of the battle.
’It seems I’ve accidentally found an unbelievable Powerhouse...’ Elias had mixed feelings at that moment. It wasn’t because the Duke’s Mansion was mostly destroyed. It was indeed half-ruined, but the hidden vault wasn’t in the mansion to begin with; it was in an underground treasury.
What truly gave him mixed feelings were the details Su Zhou revealed in combat. ’He looks like an absolute berserker when he fights, but in reality, neither the Tidal Giant’s torrents nor his own attacks affected any of the surrounding civilians. If he hadn’t cared, he wouldn’t have needed to face the Tidal Giant’s massive wave head-on. He could have just dodged and finished off Delron Mage even faster!’
’This Wilderness Wanderer... actually cares so much about the lives of ordinary people? We’re in an apocalypse, for crying out loud. I doubt even the common folk themselves care that much anymore.’
As for Su Zhou, he felt better than ever.
’This feeling of wiping out evil... it’s amazing.’
On Earth, Su Zhou had indeed used all sorts of methods to dispense justice to the wicked. In fact, he often led a team, working with the official Transcendents in each region, to subdue powerful Extraordinary criminals wherever they appeared.
It was always far too simple—Su Zhou couldn’t even remember the names of the criminals he’d subdued, let alone their abilities. All he had to do was walk up, grab them, and give them a good shake to easily incapacitate them.
But he couldn’t eliminate them. Killing criminals before they were sentenced was not part of his duty. His job included neither Judgment nor execution.
