Monsters Die When Killed

Chapter 489 - 6: Thoughts on the Great Seal

While Su Zhou was in Southern Zhengguo, working on his Divine Techniques and Magic.

The entire world was surging with a dark tide.

Never mind the magical revolution stemming from the Citizen Points System, or the impact on regular industries from the emergence of various Spiritual Qi enterprises. The appearance of the Space-Time Sects alone was a massive problem.

Earth, which the ancient Immortal Gods had called the Immortal Realm, was naturally connected to many Otherworlds. But when its Spiritual Qi was severed, these natural space-time passages closed, turning the former hub of All Realms into an isolated island in the cosmos.

Now, with the Spiritual Energy Revival, space-time passages were opening one after another. This was tantamount to opening the gates to new worlds for humanity—but the people of today were unable to exploit these new worlds as the Immortal Gods once had.

They even had to be wary of potential ’invaders’ from the Otherworlds.

In the Northern Mariana Sea, the True Dragon, Nine Nether, was patrolling solemnly through the deep. Not far from him, a massive space-time rift, three hundred meters wide and nearly a thousand long, connected the oceans of two realms. It was like a great gate, causing the two worlds to overlap. Here, the turbulent currents of Spiritual Qi had even formed a violent vortex, turning the once-calm sea into a death trap and forcing the closure of shipping lanes.

Even the most adept swimming Sea Beasts could get lost here, or even be dragged by the currents into the Otherworld.

That was the Celestial Pool Realm: a vast ocean world where even an Overlord Level Divine Dragon could swim freely.

On the surface, the Otherworld seemed like a massive treasure trove of resources. The Celestial Pool Realm alone, for instance, could serve as a new fishing ground or a marine research base. Merely exploiting its resources would bring incalculable rewards to Earth.

But problems also arose.

Was the water quality in the two oceans the same? Could the microbial populations of the two realms intermingle, possibly hybridizing and mutating into new super-pathogens? Could the exchange of life between the two realms lead to invasive species?

Questions like these hung like a sword of Damocles over the heads of every expert. Furthermore, large Space-Time Sects like the one to the Celestial Pool Realm—gates confirmed to lead to major Otherworlds and not just Small Secret Realms—had appeared on Earth. A total of five of them!

The gate to the ’Demon Realm’ in Orobas Slovenia, from which hundreds of thousands of Magical Beasts had once poured out, causing over a million casualties.

The gate to the ’Dead Silence Realm’ in Antarctica, a land of frozen silence where not a single sign of life had been found.

The gate to the ’Celestial Pool Realm’ in the Northern Mariana Sea—the former territory of the Celestial Pool Dragon King and a paradise for Ocean Spirit Beasts.

The Realm gate deep underground in Central Asia, which led to an Otherworld of unknown details.

And finally, the gate to the ’Rainforest Realm’ in a South American jungle, opening to a world of which little was known, but which showed signs of a possible civilization.

Of course, as everyone knows, when there are five of something, there is bound to be a sixth. The Space-Time Sect within the Kunlun Secret Realm, leading to the Beast God Realm, was that as-yet-unpublicized sixth gate.

It wasn’t just nations that were interested. Ambitious Transcendents and Leaders of organizations seeking to establish their own power bases all had their eyes on these Otherworlds. Even the infamous Mysterious Organizations—the Spirit Summoning Association and the Continuous Prayer Meeting—saw them as ideal places to expand their influence and make a comeback.

Therefore, even if these gates couldn’t be exploited yet, the world’s major powers guarded them strictly to prevent anyone with ulterior motives from slipping through.

And Nine Nether—who had already received the true inheritance of the Celestial Pool Dragon King, advanced to the Extraordinary Peak, and taken on the body of a True Dragon—was the one jointly entrusted by several national governments to guard the passage to the Celestial Pool Realm.

’Another one trying to sneak across.’

The massive True Dragon opened his eyes. He used ’Resentment Detection’—a Restricted-Level High Magic he had only recently learned—to peer toward a nearby spot where a red glow had suddenly appeared.

There, a seemingly ordinary mass of water, showing no abnormalities, pulsed in Nine Nether’s vision with a resentful, reddish-black glow.

The Transcendent’s movements were actually quite stealthy. He had used some kind of Secret Technique to transform himself into a mass of water, completely stilling his mental fluctuations and any interference with the surrounding Spiritual Power. By simply drifting with the current, he intended to merge with the converging ocean flows of the two realms and slip into the Otherworld.

However, under ’Resentment Detection,’ anyone hiding without a specialized shielding technique would be completely exposed. This was precisely why the Zhengguo Government had permitted Nine Nether, the gatekeeper between realms, to learn this particular Magic.

The Zhengguo Government was extremely cautious about the ’Resentment Detection’ Magic that Su Zhou had developed. For now, only a select few Transcendents responsible for guarding critical areas had been given permission to cultivate it to bolster their security.

’This must be the nineteenth stowaway I’ve caught this week.’

Controlling the ocean currents, Nine Nether formed a whirlpool and captured the intruder with ease. The stowaway seemed to want to fight back, however. The instant he was caught, a powerful, dark, and foul energy burst from his body. It spread out like a virulent poison, attempting to corrupt Nine Nether’s Spiritual Power and force him to let go, giving the man a chance to break free and enter the Otherworld.
