The Five Races of the Beast God Realm are the Scale, Feather, Luo, Kun, and Mao.
Initially, the Beast God Realm had no clear racial divisions. Aside from one’s own kind, all other creatures were either prey or competitors.
However, after the Immortal Gods of old passed down civilization, the first Divine Beasts spontaneously divided their kind into the five categories of "Scale, Feather, Luo, Kun, and Mao," establishing their respective domains.
The Feather Race consisted of various feathered Spirit Birds and Divine Birds. Of course, whether they could fly was not the main criterion—after all, creatures like Terror Birds and Ostriches exist in this world, so one couldn’t generalize. It was even said that some feathered lizards and snakes could be classified as members of both the Scale and Feather Races.
As for the Scale Race, they were scaled creatures like snakes, fish, and lizards. However, some winged insects also fell into this category—after all, powdery scales are still scales. There was no room for debate; this was simply how the ancients classified them. For the Immortal Gods, it was far simpler to categorize by clear external features than to deliberate over genetics and physical structures, which could be altered at any time.
On this continent of a Round Heaven and Square Earth, surrounded by vast seas, the Scale Race’s territory was mostly underwater. Only a portion of the coastal lands and mountains belonged to them. The Feather Race occupied the most treacherous, mountainous jungle regions. However, many Spirit Birds of the Feather Race were natural predators of fish and snakes, requiring them to live near the sea. Conversely, the mountainous jungles were also very suitable for the Scale Race, which led to frequent conflict between the two races.
In truth, among the Five Races of the Beast God Realm, only the most powerful lineages of the Mao Race—the Qilin and the Divine Elephants—were relatively peaceful, as they were herbivores that subsisted on air. The other races were plagued by near-daily internal strife and mutual slaughter.
It wasn’t strange for Scale Race troops to appear in Feather Race territory. What was strange was how the Feather Race could have possibly failed to notice them. Even Jin Qiong, who was concealed by multiple Secret Techniques, had been discovered. At the Scale Race’s level of stealth, they should have been spotted immediately.
"It’s highly likely that those Spirit Birds from before have already reported our presence to the Feather Race. We’ve been discovered. These Scale Race members are just pawns, lured here by the Feather Race to probe our strength."
The one who spoke was Liu Wuxin. He stood with his arms crossed, his powerful muscles pulsing as if they had a life of their own. He pointed out gravely, "Engaging them will likely expose our strength and position. I suggest the Europe Action Team withdraw stealthily as soon as possible. We should bypass these beasts and press on."
Although he was from the House of Martial Arts, he was no meathead who thought only of brute force. On the contrary, he believed that Martial Arts itself was the wisdom of combat.
And avoiding pointless battles was a part of Martial Arts in its purest form.
It was indeed a good suggestion. Su Zhou had no objections, and the Daoist Saint gave a slight nod in agreement.
But then, Zhang Fucheng reported another piece of intelligence that made everyone change their minds.
"Mr. Rafael says the Scale Race’s language is very similar to a Chinese dialect. Before they started eating, they mentioned a specific word..."
Deciphering the Spirit Code was mentally taxing, but it was a necessary step for secure communication. Translating the code, Professor Zhang was covered in sweat as he relayed the message: "Life Lord... We kowtow to the Venerable God of Life, grant us food and drink... We pay homage to the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord, grant us a keen Spiritual Mechanism and wisdom..."
’Life Lord? Venerable God?’
’The Tree of Life?’
"Capture them."
This concerned the primary objective of their mission; no amount of caution was too much. The Daoist Saint, who had initially wanted to avoid trouble, made a swift decision. The old man issued the command, "We descend at once. Subdue these Scale Race members as quickly as possible."
"Su Zhou, it’s up to you!"
Hearing this, Jin Qiong immediately began to dive under Zhang Fucheng’s guidance. The Spiritualized Divine Bird descended like a bomber, heading for a secluded, dense forest below.
Having also heard the command, Su Zhou smiled and stood up. He stretched his limbs as Spiritual Power began to circulate throughout his body.
’It feels like he just used an "I choose you, Su Zhou!" tone on me,’ he thought, ’but this is my cue to attack anyway.’ With that, Su Zhou leaped from Jin Qiong’s back. His Gale Armor activated, and he plummeted downward like a meteor, far faster than the Great Roc. His Spiritual Power canceled out all air vibrations, making his descent completely silent.
「Meanwhile, on the ground.」
Rafael was monitoring the group of Scale Race Spirit Beasts from within a Sealing Card that had disguised itself as a large fallen leaf, giving him a full view of their camp.
The Spiritual Bull from the Beast God Realm that he had been controlling earlier was now being butchered and portioned out. A moth-like Spirit Beast used a Wind Technique to contain the scent, so even with blood pooling on the ground, not a whiff of it escaped.
The Heroic Spirit Warrior, Yuneiro, was also on alert, looking for an opportunity to strike. At Rafael’s command, he would act immediately, using a Rune Divine Skill to capture the strongest among the Scale Race forces.
His target was the giant crocodile at the center of the Scale Race troops—an Extraordinary High-tier beast that walked upright like a monitor lizard.
The massive crocodile had incredibly thick, black Scale Armor and a body over seven meters tall. This didn’t even seem to be its final form. It looked tough to deal with and wouldn’t be easy to kill.
Furthermore, as the leader, it would know the most. This was why Yuneiro hadn’t attacked rashly; he was confident he could kill it, but not that he could capture it alive.
At that moment, all the Scale Race beasts were praying before the butchered carcass of the Spiritual Bull. All the tallow and the choicest cuts of meat had been placed at the front, upon an altar that looked like it was made of stacked stone slabs.
"We kowtow to the Venerable God of Life—grant us food and drink—"
The giant crocodile kowtowed piously before the altar. Whether they were snakes, lizards, moths, or pangolins, all the Scale Race troops prostrated themselves with immense reverence, each in their own way, and chanted along.
"We pay homage to the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord—grant us a keen Spiritual Mechanism and wisdom—"
This time, however, the tone of the Scale Race members was less pious, but their reverence was even greater. Compared to before, their emotions were more genuine, more fanatical.
Hearing these strange intonations, which sounded like a Chinese dialect, Rafael—who of course understood Chinese—couldn’t help but frown.
’The Tree of Life.’
’According to legend, it’s an entity that sustains the creation of all things in the Beast God Realm, the reason for all existence. In terms of power and status, it’s likely on par with the Earth Mother Goddess. No matter how you look at it, the Tree of Life is definitely an entity on the same level as a Great Main God or a Celestial Venerable.’
’And such an entity was once located in the Beast God Realm, which is connected to the Kunlun Secret Realm. That’s practically a stone’s throw from Earth... The very thought is terrifying.’
’The Beast God Realm still maintains its faith in the Tree of Life. I can’t let this information go.’
With this in mind, Rafael waited for the right moment. While he was stronger than Yuneiro, his Sealing Skills were better for defending against ambushes than for launching them. The Scale Race forces numbered over forty, including one Extraordinary High-tier. Rather than have the Europe Action Team risk an attack, it was better to wait for the Zhengguo party and coordinate a pincer attack.
However, his plan was a little too cautious.
In the instant Rafael was lost in thought, he saw two shadows, one large and one small, descending rapidly from the sky.
The smaller one was even faster.
It wasn’t just Rafael who noticed; all the other Scale Race members spotted it too. They looked up in astonishment.
"It’s a surprise attack from the Feather Race!"
The lead crocodile was the first to spot them and sound the alarm. It had already produced its weapon: a giant iron hammer coiled around its tail.
But when it noticed the small, rapidly descending shadow, the giant crocodile froze, completely still.
As the giant crocodile stopped moving, all the other Scale Race members froze as well. The entire camp seemed to have been petrified, utterly silent. This puzzled Rafael, who had no idea what was happening.
Then, he watched as, after a moment of stunned silence, all the Scale Race members dropped the weapons from their hands and tails with incredible speed.
Immediately after, with lightning speed, they assumed the most pious, most standard, most respectful, and most sycophantic posture imaginable, prostrating themselves on the ground.
At that exact moment, Su Zhou landed in the center of the camp. His body was crackling with fine arcs of Thunder Light, and he had been about to unleash a Burst of Thunder Power to paralyze the entire Scale Race contingent.
"What’s going on?"
Su Zhou was currently wrapped in an armor of blue-cyan electrical arcs that seemed forged from pure Thunderbolt. With his power, he could have easily unleashed his attack and knocked them all unconscious before they even noticed him. However, while still in mid-air, he hadn’t sensed the slightest hint of hostility. Instead, he felt waves of what could only be described as fawning "sincerity." That was why he had restrained his power before landing.
He scratched his head, perplexed. "This scene feels a bit familiar."
Su Zhou couldn’t help but recall the incident a year ago on the coast of the South Sea, when he was swarmed by a group of Sea Serpents and fish. ’Yara’s bloodline... its oppressive power is truly something else.’
All the Scale Race members remained prostrate on the ground. Even when Jin Qiong’s Great Roc Divine Bird form materialized, still in its Spiritualization state, they didn’t so much as twitch. They showed no fear of being killed by a Divine Bird for trespassing in Feather Race territory.
Or perhaps, the prospect of their own deaths was insignificant compared to the importance of showing proper respect to a Dragon Blood Venerable Master.
"Venerable Lord..."
The lead crocodile spoke, its voice hoarse and its lower jaw pressed tightly to the sandy ground. Its tone was respectful to the extreme. Humbly and fearfully, it said, "We... we did not know you were coming, Venerable Lord. We failed to prepare offerings to welcome you. It is our failure... I will punish myself!"
Reprimanding itself in a hoarse voice, it then coiled its tail, picked up a long saber that a nearby lizard warrior had cast aside, and with a powerful flick, stabbed it into its own body. The blade ripped a long gash, and blood spurted out as if from a faucet.
’This black-haired, black-eyed Venerable Lord looks like one of the Giant sub-humans from the Luo Race,’ it thought, ’but that aura... an aura even more noble and powerful than the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord’s... it absolutely can’t be faked. He is definitely a Venerable Lord. I just don’t know what his true form is, or what specific title I should use to address him.’
’As for the Divine Bird Venerable Lord to the side... she might be a Divine Bird, but she’s still a Venerable Lord. The Five Races may fight amongst themselves, but that doesn’t mean the Venerable Lords have to kill each other.’
’The bloodline of a Divine Beast is so noble! It’s one thing for Venerable Lords to spar occasionally, but real, bloody combat is a task for us Combat Species. A Venerable Lord must not suffer even the slightest harm!’
"Stop! What are you doing?"
Su Zhou frowned as he watched the Extraordinary High-tier crocodile Spirit Beast mutilating itself. It wore a look of relief, as if this act could absolve it of its great sin of disrespect. He first spoke to stop it from stabbing itself again, then activated his Divine Techniques and swept his gaze over the entire Scale Race contingent.
He couldn’t help but nod.
’These Scale Race troops carry the heavy Evil Qi of battle, but not much of a Curse. It seems they’re just a pure army, not necessarily Evil People. As for the self-harm... it might make questioning them easier... but to be honest, I still don’t really get why it’s mutilating itself.’
Meanwhile, the giant crocodile Spirit Beast was also confused.
’It’s only been three stabs, and the Venerable Lord is already telling me to stop?’ it thought, a flicker of fear in its heart. ’For the sin of disrespect, the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord would have us inflict at least ten wounds on ourselves before he would smile and forgive us... Could it be that this Venerable Lord is unsatisfied with my sincerity? Does he not wish for me to atone with my blood?’
It was terrified but didn’t know what to do. Since Su Zhou had ordered it to stop, it could only obey. The other Scale Race members had also ceased all movement, frozen like puppets, not daring to stir.
