Just as the Zhengguo Action Team was midway through their raid toward the remains of the Tree of Life.
The slow-to-react Divine Beasts of the Beast God Realm belatedly realized that the goal of these survivors from the Immortal Realm wasn’t simply to scout the environment and establish a base—they had a much more profound objective, and the beasts had no idea what they were planning.
"They’re advancing in a straight line. Are they heading for the location of the Venerable God of Life?!"
"How could that be? What on earth are they trying to do?"
For a moment, none of the Divine Beasts could figure out the humans’ objective, no matter how much they wracked their brains. In their minds, the Venerable God of Life was little more than a clay puppet their Primordial Ancestors had worshiped as a God. Aside from its corpse demonstrating the powerful heights a Divine Beast could reach, they held no real respect for it.
After all, they were too far removed from the era when the Tree of Life still existed—so far removed that all history and reverence had been forgotten.
But even so, they could sense something was wrong. An instinctual premonition from the memories in their bloodlines made these Divine Beasts determined to stop whatever the humans were doing.
"Ghost Car, you’ve occupied the main city of the Feather Race, haven’t you? That makes you at least half the King of the Feather Race."
Through the secret Magic network connecting the Venerable Lord Divine Beasts, the King of the Scale Race—a pale blue True Dragon who had achieved a perfect transformation and was known as the Celestial Dragon Venerable Lord—was sneering at the silent Ghost Car. "Those survivors from the Immortal Realm all escaped from your territory. Are you telling me you didn’t know? Letting them go so easily... you’re trying to divert this disaster onto us, aren’t you?"
"This time, we will take action as well. After all, our opponents are those survivors from the Immortal Realm, and the Primordial Ancestors said they are a great enemy that our Beast God Realm must face. But Ghost Car, you will have to pay for our help."
The one who spoke was a chuckling Divine Turtle. Mysterious Runes and trigrams flashed on its back, constantly changing as if simulating the natural environment. The old turtle’s tone was placid. "This time, we may even need to borrow the power of the Primordial Ancestors. So, how about this? You give me two million servants from the Devotion Species as blood food, and another ten thousand from the Production Species. How does that sound?"
The speakers were the Leaders of the Scale Race and the Kun Race. The Mao Race didn’t participate this time because their current King of the Mao Race, the Water Qilin, had been backstabbed by his own disciple. Now, three generations—master, disciple, and grand-disciple—were embroiled in a chaotic war. The Divine Elephant, having suffered huge population losses in the last Mao Race internal strife, was still licking its wounds and had no energy to participate.
The current Beast King of the Luo Race was a giant Divine Toad. However, it was not a traditional Moon-Devouring Divine Toad, but the hybrid offspring of a Phantom-morph Hidden Dragon from the Scale Race and a Moon Shadow Toad Spirit Beast. After seizing the title of King of the Luo Race, it had been suppressing internal rebellions. It came this time intending to use this battle to cement its authority and establish its bloodline as an entirely new species of Divine Beast.
This sort of thing was not rare. The hybrid offspring of a Spirit Beast and a Divine Beast was not necessarily weaker than a pure Divine Beast. If a powerful Alien Species like this Divine Toad appeared, it could even be stronger than an ordinary Divine Beast.
The Divine Toad, its skin constantly shifting colors, stared at the still-silent Ghost Car, its emotionless eyes darting about erratically like a chameleon’s. "Don’t be silent, Ghost Car. You can only agree. Otherwise, there are plenty of other Divine Birds who would be willing to accept our terms—but in that case, who would be the new King of the Feather Race? And what would become of you, the loser?"
This was blatant coercion. Ghost Car, utterly frustrated by the string of unexpected events, forced a sound from its beak. "...I agree."
"Excellent." The other three Kings of Divine Beasts laughed. "First, we’ll go exterminate the survivors from the Immortal Realm over by the Venerable God of Life. We absolutely cannot let the enemy accomplish their goal... As for those causing chaos in your Feather Race territory... your race is so powerful, you can surely handle them alone, right?"
The Magic communication network dissipated.
As for the enraged Ghost Car, its six eyes looked as if they were about to spew fire. It ground its beak and snarled, "To put it bluntly, you just want to weaken my power so you can take a piece of the Feather Race for yourselves, right...? Fine! I admit I failed to see what those humans were capable of. I’ll accept this loss, but there will never be a next time!"
The next moment, Ghost Car beat its wings and flew out from the center of the Divine Bird Hall, a restricted area that only Divine Beasts could enter.
Arriving outside the hall, it saw several Spirit Birds prostrating on the ground, trembling as they waited for it.
"Lord Ghost Car... V-Venerable Lord... We failed to stop the survivors from the Immortal Realm... We deserve a thousand deaths for our crime..."
The one speaking was the Commander of the Feather Race’s border forces—an Extraordinary High-tier Spirit Beast of the Combat Species. Its troops had attempted to intercept the Zhengguo Action Team on the border, only to be completely routed by the Europe Action Team.
It was a Fire Element Spirit Bird with reddish feathers, a lesser creature from the Vermilion Bird’s lineage. Its status was normally respected, second only to the Divine Beasts, which was why it held command over the border forces.
Now, having failed the mission given by Ghost Car, it was trembling all over with fear. But this was the required procedure for a report. No matter how terrified it was, it had to come here to state its failure... Unlike the heavily brainwashed Production Species or the mindless servants of the Devotion Species, Combat Species were Spirit Beasts with complete personalities. They naturally feared death—and things far more terrifying than death.
