Faye Sinclair nodded. "Exactly. It’s one of those things—it exists if you believe in it, and it doesn’t if you don’t. No one should feel pressured. Besides, it’s better if we all keep quiet about this. When we get home, don’t mention it to anyone. It’s for the best."
Luna Ainsworth looked at her. "Nora’s Mom is right. We should only discuss this on the plane. Once we’re home, we’ll pretend it was never mentioned."
"Exactly, exactly." Everyone agreed.
Since they still had a few hours to go before reaching Fravia, everyone decided to get some sleep.
As she slept, Chloe Marshall had a nightmare.
She cried out, startling everyone awake.
Mrs. Ellsworth walked over. "Chloe, what’s wrong?"
Chloe Marshall’s face was deathly pale; she hadn’t quite snapped out of her dream yet.
"Honey?" Ethan Ellsworth took her hand, noticing it was cold.
"I had a nightmare. I dreamed about my mom and dad."
Mrs. Ellsworth comforted her. "It’s alright, it’s alright."
Chloe Marshall nodded, then told Ethan Ellsworth, "I dreamed my mom and dad were holding a little boy’s hand. They told me they had chosen this child for me from the other side. They said he was incredibly smart and well-behaved, and that I had to accept him, no matter what."
A jolt went through Ethan Ellsworth.
The moment Chloe Marshall finished speaking, she gagged, dry-heaving but not bringing anything up.
"Chloe, could you be pregnant?" Mrs. Hawthorne spoke up.
Mrs. Grant nodded. "It looks that way."
Mrs. Ellsworth also thought it was very likely. "Well, we’ll have you checked as soon as we get home."
But Chloe Marshall couldn’t bring herself to be happy, and Ethan Ellsworth knew why.
He comforted Chloe Marshall. "Chloe, if it’s true that our parents specially selected this child, then we should be happy. It means Mom and Dad are still watching over us from the other side. If not, then it’s nothing to worry about."
Chloe Marshall nodded, feeling much better.
Before long, the plane landed at the airport in Alveria, Fravia.
Everyone disembarked. Those who were heading home did so, while the Ainsworth family stayed at Quentin’s villa.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief once they were home.
Once Chloe Marshall was home, Zoe Ellsworth had someone send over a few pregnancy tests. Chloe took one and discovered that she was, in fact, pregnant.
Mrs. Ellsworth was overjoyed. "She’s really pregnant! Oh, my, this is wonderful news."
Ethan Ellsworth glanced at Chloe Marshall, then told the rest of the family about her dream. The room instantly fell silent.
Finally, Mrs. Ellsworth spoke up. "If it is true, then it’s nothing to worry about. It means Chloe’s parents are watching over them from the great beyond, still caring for Chloe and Zeke. Isn’t that a good thing? Why is everyone acting so spooked?"
Mr. Ellsworth also said, "That’s right. Your mother is correct. This is something only our family needs to know. We absolutely must not speak of it to outsiders. For now, Chloe needs to stay home and focus on a healthy pregnancy."
Zoe Ellsworth chimed in, "That’s right. This is my sister-in-law’s second baby, so now we have two pregnant women in the family."
"Chloe, dear, have Ethan take you upstairs to rest. Dorothy will sleep with me tonight."
Ethan Ellsworth nodded in agreement and led Chloe Marshall upstairs to rest.
Back in their room, Chloe Marshall finally felt a little more at ease.
"Go to sleep."
Ethan Ellsworth held her as they drifted off to sleep.
For the next several days, she didn’t dream of her parents again, so Chloe Marshall slowly began to put the incident out of her mind. To be honest, her mother had passed away when she was very young, and her memory of her mother’s face had always been hazy. After her father’s death, she had dreamed of him a few times, but she always forgot the contents of the dream upon waking.
What left her with such lingering fear from the dream on the plane wasn’t just that her parents were leading a boy and telling her to accept him. It was also because she had seen the boy’s face so clearly. He looked just like Ethan Ellsworth. That was the real reason she had been so terrified.
’The only way to know if the dream was real or not is to wait until the child is born and see its face.’
Quentin Grant was taking Nora Ainsworth and their two little ones on a month-long honeymoon tomorrow.
So tonight, Zoe Ellsworth, Herman Hawthorne, Ethan Ellsworth, Chloe Marshall, and Dorothy Ellsworth gathered together once again, just a few days after the wedding.
The only regret was the absence of Jean Grant.
Then again, no one really brought up Jean Grant much anymore. As long as she was living well and peacefully on her own, why should any of them disturb her?
Only Mr. and Mrs. Grant would visit her from time to time.
The three children came bounding down the stairs, hand in hand, looking as adorable and harmonious as could be.
"Well, it’s a done deal. Young Master Ellsworth’s daughter is destined to be Young Master Grant’s daughter-in-law," Herman Hawthorne teased.
Quentin Grant laughed. "You think I don’t know that? Our eldest already says he’s going to marry Dorothy when he grows up."
Ethan Ellsworth feigned clutching his chest. "Just thinking about my little girl growing up and belonging to another family... oh, the pain is unbearable."
