"My mom refused to get a divorce. Yesterday she tried to kill herself by swallowing sleeping pills, it even made the news."
As Anna said this, her eyes grew even redder and tears fell.
"I’m so scared of going home now. Either I walk in on them fighting, or I hear something awful has happened to my mom again!"
In Anna’s memory, her parents had always had a really good relationship. They never argued, they never even raised their voices.
Could it be that all of that was fake, or is it that men’s hearts change too easily?
"Right now, I honestly don’t know what to do!"
Anna was deeply dejected.
Ever since she was little, her life had been smooth and uneventful. The only hard thing she’d ever gone through was her feelings for Sean Lockwood.
She’d finally managed to let go of that relationship, and then something like this blew up in The Morgan Family.
Anna looked at the mess that was now her home, completely at a loss. Trying to talk sense into anyone at a time like this was useless.
It just so happened Finn Chandler had given birth. When she went to the hospital and saw the little baby, her heart filled with bubbles of joy, and she ended up spending every day there.
On the one hand, she was escaping; on the other, she really, really liked this child.
"My suggestion is, Anna, you should pay closer attention to your mom’s emotional state."
Serena Sullivan listened and then spoke seriously.
"Yeah."
Anna nodded. For now, all she could do was take care of her mother.
"Honestly, I think it’d be better if they got divorced."
Children never wish for their own parents to divorce.
But through this whole mess, Anna had seen both Mr. Monroe’s stubbornness and his downfall, and then watched Mrs. Monroe go to extremes, practically dying for him. She truly felt it wasn’t worth it for Mrs. Monroe.
"It’s not like anyone is incapable of living without someone."
"Worst case, I’ll just live with my mom, the two of us together."
After Mr. Monroe’s sudden affair, Anna could no longer be so single-minded about relationships, and she stopped believing love was the only thing that mattered.
"Anna."
Finn Chandler and Serena both could hear something off in Anna’s tone.
"Carter Lockwood is actually pretty good."
As the conversation went on, Carter’s name came up again. Anna lowered her head and spoke more softly. "There’s really nothing between him and me."
"Anna!"
Serena, seeing how quickly things seemed to be progressing between Anna and Carter, felt genuinely anxious.
Now, because of what happened with Mr. Monroe, Anna seemed to be lumping every man into the same boat.
"If there were really nothing between you, would Carter care so much about everything that happens to you? I don’t believe you haven’t felt his feelings for you at all."
With the words laid bare, there were only Serena, Finn Chandler, and Anna in the ward.
Anna couldn’t keep dodging anymore. She lifted her head, looked at the two of them, and admitted, "Yeah."
"Maybe before, I really didn’t realize."
Now, in her heart, she knew.
When did she first start noticing Carter was different with her?
Was it when he kissed her, or even earlier than that?
"Knowing doesn’t do me any good."
Anna said with a faint smile.
In the end, after many years, wouldn’t he just fall in love with someone else anyway?
Thinking about the falseness in love, Anna grew very pessimistic.
Finn and Serena exchanged a look, hearing the fear of love in Anna’s words.
Breaking up with Sean, then getting hit with Mr. Monroe’s infidelity—there was no way she wouldn’t be afraid.
They didn’t know what else they could say. They’d just have to take things one step at a time.
Time in the hospital passed especially slowly. Finn Chandler had been lying there for a month; she really had to go back to The Ford Family.
Julian Ford agreed with a smile; The Ford Family had already arranged a proper place for Finn to spend her postpartum confinement.
If it hadn’t been for that accident in the hotel bathroom, Finn wouldn’t have stayed here for so long.
With Finn returning to The Ford Family, the little one would be taken back as well. At the same time, worried about the baby’s health, The Ford Family had already found doctors and nurses to look after him specially.
