After collecting the three Slowpoke, Haruto carefully searched the surrounding area.
Sure enough, he soon found another five gathered together on a nearby patch of grass, basking peacefully in the sunlight.
Naturally, those five Slowpoke were just as easy to collect.
To Haruto’s even greater delight, he discovered several Shellder among the rocks in the shallows near the group.
A Slowpoke could only evolve once a Shellder bit down on its tail.
Since he had found both Pokémon in the same place, Haruto decided to take the Shellder with him as well.
Once they were safely inside the Gourmet Restaurant, Haruto considered his options and decided not to continue searching underwater.
A narrow river like this was unlikely to contain many more varieties of Pokémon.
There were no trails or markers nearby, but Haruto did not care. He casually chose a direction and resumed his search through the forest.
After walking for several minutes, his eyes suddenly lit up and settled on a low branch ahead.
A small, earth-yellow caterpillar was lying across it, slowly chewing on a leaf. Seven pairs of tiny pink feet lined its underside, while sharp white stingers protruded from both its forehead and tail.
It was a Weedle.
Weedle’s final evolutionary form was Beedrill.
Although Beedrill did not produce honey, they gathered pollen.
Some of the honey collected by Teddiursa was supposedly made by mixing fruit with pollen gathered from Beedrill.
Haruto naturally had no intention of passing one up.
He strode over and reached down to pick up the Weedle.
It had stopped eating the moment he approached. Its body stiffened as it watched him warily.
When Haruto’s hand came closer, Weedle became enraged.
It aimed the white stinger on its forehead directly at his palm, its body glowing faintly as it threw all its strength into a headlong charge.
Tap.
The stinger struck Haruto’s palm, causing a faint prick of pain and delivering a surprisingly solid impact.
Against Haruto, however, the attack was utterly insignificant.
He gently closed his fingers around the struggling Weedle and transferred it directly into the Gourmet Restaurant.
After capturing his first Weedle, Haruto’s luck only continued to improve.
Before long, he discovered a second one on a nearby leaf and collected it in exactly the same way.
Just as he prepared to resume his search, something yellow-green hanging from the tree trunk caught the corner of his eye.
It was a Kakuna, Weedle’s evolved form.
The Kakuna hung motionlessly from a branch. Aside from using Harden instinctively, it could barely move at all, making it even easier to capture than Weedle.
Haruto plucked it down as casually as though he were picking fruit and sent it into the Gourmet Restaurant.
He soon found several more Weedle and Kakuna among the nearby trees and collected every one of them.
Just as Haruto stored the latest Kakuna, a rapid buzzing suddenly reached his ears.
Two yellow-and-black Beedrill came racing toward him, wings beating furiously and the twin stingers on their arms gleaming coldly.
Haruto showed no sign of alarm.
On the contrary, he was pleasantly surprised.
The Weedle and Kakuna would need time to evolve, but Beedrill could already begin gathering pollen immediately.
More importantly, the number of Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill concentrated in this area suggested that their nest had to be nearby.
There should already be a large supply of collected pollen inside.
Haruto certainly did not intend to miss that.
The two Beedrill did not share his excitement.
The moment they saw him, they flew into a rage.
Haruto was an intruder trespassing in their territory.
Their wings buzzed even faster as the stingers on their arms glinted sharply, and they charged without hesitation.
Unfortunately, their attacks were nowhere near enough to threaten him.
Haruto shifted aside and easily avoided the first strike. With a casual grab, he subdued one Beedrill and sent it into the Gourmet Restaurant.
When the other Beedrill saw what had happened, it immediately realized it was no match for this human.
Rather than continue attacking, it turned and fled in another direction.
A smile appeared on Haruto’s face.
He had deliberately allowed it to escape.
His plan was simple—let the Beedrill lead him back to its colony.
Haruto followed at an unhurried pace, maintaining just enough distance to keep it in sight without alarming it further.
Several minutes later, the fleeing Beedrill finally stopped before a towering tree.
Haruto looked up.
An enormous hive hung securely from one of its thickest branches.
Before he had even approached, an intensely rich floral fragrance washed over him.
It flowed through his nose and deep into his lungs, instantly refreshing his senses.
"Looks like they’ve collected plenty of pollen."
Haruto could not help smiling.
In addition to the enormous hive, more than a dozen Kakuna hung densely across the nearby trunks and branches.
While Haruto examined the area, a heavy buzzing suddenly erupted from inside the nest.
A moment later, over a dozen Beedrill flew aggressively from its entrance.
At the front of the swarm was an enormous Beedrill nearly twice the size of an ordinary one.
Its wings beat slowly, and the pressure it radiated was clearly far greater than that of the others.
It was undoubtedly the colony’s leader.
"Another unexpected prize."
Delight entered Haruto’s eyes as he studied the giant Beedrill with interest.
Pokémon colonies occasionally produced individuals far larger than normal.
These rare specimens possessed greater strength, superior talent, and potential comparable to that of exceptionally rare Shiny Pokémon.
The Beedrill before him was clearly one such individual.
Now that Haruto had found it, there was no chance he would let it escape.
The Beedrill colony, meanwhile, was growing increasingly agitated.
Their hostile eyes remained fixed on Haruto as their wings vibrated fast enough to produce a deafening hum. Every stinger was aimed directly at him.
Haruto rolled his neck and wrists, producing a few soft cracks from his joints as his expression became focused.
There were enough Beedrill here that capturing them all might require genuine effort.
Bzzzt—!
The Beedrill leader showed no hesitation.
With a sharp burst of wingbeats, it transformed into a yellow-and-black blur and dove toward Haruto.
Seven or eight Beedrill followed close behind. Like disciplined soldiers, they spread out and descended from multiple directions, surrounding him.
A pale white glow covered the stingers on their arms as energy gathered at the tips.
They were clearly preparing close-range moves and would unleash them the instant they came within striking distance.
The remaining Beedrill provided support from afar.
The white light around the stingers of several Beedrill condensed sharply before countless tiny needles of energy shot forward like a rainstorm.
It was the Bug-type move Pin Missile.
Each individual projectile was not especially powerful, but the move’s rapid rate of fire and broad coverage made it ideal for restricting an opponent’s movements.
The other Beedrill pointed their abdominal stingers at Haruto.
An eerie purple light gathered at the tips before several poisonous needles tore through the air.
This was Poison Sting.
The two attacks intertwined into a dense net of projectiles that closed in around Haruto, seemingly blocking every possible route of escape.
"I didn’t expect Beedrill to fight with actual tactics."
Haruto raised an eyebrow.
With his physical durability, he could probably endure the attacks without suffering any serious injury. Still, being riddled with needles would hardly be pleasant.
More importantly, he remained extremely cautious around poison.
His footwork suddenly accelerated.
Haruto weaved through the dense barrage, shifting left and right as he narrowly avoided nearly every Pin Missile and Poison Sting.
This was not a game, and moves did not possess some arbitrary guarantee of hitting their target. As long as his reactions were fast enough, he could evade them through movement alone.
The barrage was so dense that a few stray needles still slipped through, but Haruto blocked them with Ken.
His clothes were not nearly as fortunate.
Several holes and tears appeared across the fabric, leaving Haruto more than a little exasperated.
