After Akainu entered the fight, the brutality of the war climbed to an entirely new level.
Smoke hung over Marineford like a layer of heavy storm clouds, while the thunder of cannon fire, the clash of weapons, dying screams, and furious battle cries blended into one continuous roar. The air itself was thick with the scorched smell of magma, the metallic stench of blood, and the salt of the sea.
Before long, the remaining Warlords who had been watching from the sidelines began making their moves as well.
Boa Hancock, however, attacked practically everyone without distinction, while Gecko Moria harvested shadows regardless of whether they belonged to pirates or Marines.
The Marines continued resisting with everything they had, and despite the Whitebeard Pirates’ relentless assault, they still could not break through into the plaza.
Just when the Marine defensive line seemed almost impossible to breach, an enormous figure entered the frozen harbor.
It was Little Oars Jr., a descendant of the legendary continent-puller Oars and a member of the ancient giant race fighting on Whitebeard’s side.
His body was comparable in size to a Marine battleship, yet he charged directly toward the execution platform beneath a storm of cannon fire.
Shells exploded against his incredibly tough skin, but most left only shallow wounds.
Relying on brute strength alone, Little Oars Jr. seized an enormous warship and hurled it into the Marine formation, smashing open a path through the seemingly impenetrable defensive line and creating a route straight toward the plaza.
Unfortunately, his advance was cut brutally short.
Kuma’s compressed paw-shaped shockwave struck Little Oars Jr. directly in the abdomen, its horrifying penetrative force rupturing his internal organs.
Doflamingo followed with a twisted grin and cleanly severed one of Little Oars Jr.’s legs.
Moria immediately took advantage of the opening, driving his shadow construct through the giant’s chest.
After suffering one devastating injury after another, Little Oars Jr. finally collapsed in front of the execution platform.
From Charizard’s back, Haruto watched the entire sequence unfold.
His gaze moved across the battlefield until he noticed a flash of pink slowly edging toward the outskirts.
Naturally, it was Koby—the future champion of battlefield desertion.
The young Marine had already been scared pale by the hellish scene around him. While everyone’s attention was focused on Little Oars Jr., he stumbled and scrambled his way toward the outer edge of Marineford, desperate to escape the fighting.
Haruto looked at him with obvious disdain, though he had no intention of interfering.
What interested him far more was the frozen wall created from Aokiji’s tsunami at the edge of the battlefield.
A Marine warship was perched precariously on top of it.
And aboard that ship were Luffy and the group who had fought their way out of Impel Down.
The people on deck had also noticed Haruto and Charizard circling in the sky.
Even Luffy, however, only spared them a brief glance.
Right now, he had no attention to waste on anything else.
Nothing mattered more than saving Ace.
Especially after learning that the Marines intended to move the execution forward.
Desperate to reach the battlefield as quickly as possible, Luffy suggested breaking the ice trapping the ship so they could slide down the frozen wall and return to the sea.
Unfortunately, when they carried out the plan, they broke the ice on the wrong side.
The entire warship, along with everyone aboard it, immediately began falling straight into the harbor.
By sheer luck, their landing point happened to be the patch of open water Diamond Jozu had created earlier when he tore an enormous chunk of ice from the bay.
Otherwise, the ship would have smashed directly into the frozen surface and likely shattered on impact.
With an enormous splash, the warship crashed into the water.
Luffy and the others had officially entered the heart of the Summit War.
"Now we’re only missing Blackbeard and his crew."
Haruto muttered while looking down at the newly arrived ship.
Standing on Charizard’s back, he surveyed the entire chaotic battlefield for a moment before a faint smile appeared on his face.
"Guess it’s time for me to get started too."
He lightly patted Charizard on the neck.
Charizard understood immediately. With a powerful beat of its wings, it carried Haruto toward an open area along the edge of the inner bay, eventually landing somewhere relatively clear and well away from the worst of the fighting.
Haruto had indeed decided to interfere in the war.
He just had no intention of doing it by charging into the crowd with a knife and joining the slaughter.
Plenty of people noticed him descend.
Yet neither the nearby Marines nor the members of the Whitebeard Pirates farther away made any move toward him.
No one knew whether Haruto was an enemy or an ally, and with the battle already consuming all of their attention, neither side wanted to provoke another unknown factor without reason.
Then, under everyone’s watchful eyes, Haruto expanded the Gourmet Restaurant.
A clean, open-air kitchen suddenly materialized in front of him.
Polished stainless-steel counters gleamed without a single stain, while nearby racks held a complete set of neatly arranged cooking tools.
The entire space looked absurdly out of place amid a battlefield filled with fire, blood, corpses, and cannon smoke.
This was another function Haruto had developed for the Gourmet Restaurant.
Rather than entering the space completely, he could now manifest part of it directly into the outside world.
And within any manifested section of the Gourmet Restaurant, Haruto possessed absolute control.
Considering he was cooking in the middle of Marineford, that extra layer of security was very welcome.
With a thought, a large quantity of ingredients appeared beside the cooking station.
The people who had already been watching him stared in disbelief.
More than one person rubbed their eyes, wondering whether the stress of battle had finally made them hallucinate.
"H-Hey... what the hell is he doing?"
"This is the Summit War! Is that guy seriously setting up a kitchen?!"
Confused shouts spread through the surrounding fighters, but Haruto paid them no attention.
His focus had already shifted entirely to the food in front of him.
He opened the Pokéblock machine beside the counter and selected several Berries according to a stamina-recovery recipe he had long since memorized.
Cheri Berries, Lum Berries, and several other varieties were measured out with exact precision.
The bright-red Cheri Berries helped relieve physical fatigue, while the pale-green Lum Berries could ease accumulated strain on the body. Another golden Berry provided a concentrated source of energy, giving the mixture the restorative power Haruto wanted.
He placed each ingredient into the Pokéblock machine in perfect proportions and pressed the start button.
The machine immediately came to life with a low, steady hum.
Its rapidly rotating blades reduced the Berries into an exceptionally smooth purée within seconds. The mixture was then spun at high speed, preserving the useful energy contained within the fruit before being compressed under pressure.
Only a few minutes later, glossy Pokéblocks began rolling from the machine.
They were a translucent pale green, their surfaces carrying a soft sheen.
A concentrated fruity aroma emerged from them at close range, completely free of bitterness or astringency. There was only a clean sweetness that seemed capable of relaxing the body simply from the scent alone.
Haruto immediately began another batch.
This time, he switched to a formula intended to aid physical recovery, adding Oran Berries, Miracle Seed, and several other ingredients with restorative properties.
Soon, another set of Pokéblocks emerged from the machine.
These were translucent white, almost like pieces of rock candy. A mild fruit fragrance lingered within their gentle sweetness, and even breathing it in seemed to ease some of the body’s tension.
Once both types were divided into separate containers, Haruto turned toward the meat waiting beside him.
He took out a prepared section of tenderloin from the manta ray Sea King.
The meat was a beautiful rose-pink, with fine streaks of fat distributed evenly throughout the muscle.
A light press with his fingertip immediately revealed its remarkable elasticity and tenderness. Just looking at it was enough to imagine how good the texture would be once cooked.
Haruto laid the meat flat on the counter, then placed several of the green stamina-restoring Pokéblocks into a stone mortar.
Taking up the pestle, he carefully ground them down.
The glossy cubes gradually became a fine powder carrying the faintest green glow, while their sweet Berry aroma grew increasingly concentrated.
Haruto then brought out several seasonings.
Wuu Volcanic Salt.
Dryad pollen.
Land Mine Mushroom powder.
He mixed the Pokéblock powder with the seasonings in carefully measured proportions, then evenly scattered the pale-green mixture over the surface of the Sea King meat.
The powder quickly adhered to the natural moisture and gelatin on the meat, creating a striking contrast against its soft pink color.
Now came the most important step.
Getting the seasoning all the way into the meat required something more than ordinary marination.
Haruto drew a slow breath.
Nen flowed around both of his hands like warm water, forming a thin layer over his palms.
Then he placed one hand firmly against the meat and began striking it with a steady, rhythmic motion.
Slap. Slap. Slap.
Each time his palm landed, the Nen spread through the meat like countless microscopic needles, carrying both the seasoning and the restorative energy from the Pokéblocks through the outer muscle and deep into every individual fiber.
The heavy, rhythmic sound of his hands striking the meat carried surprisingly far even through the deafening chaos of the battlefield.
More and more people began turning their heads toward the strange kitchen in the middle of Marineford.
