Rudeus’s POV
…
“Close your eyes. Spread your mana outwards. Like hands touching the floor, feel the sensations of your surrounding mana.”
Laurel’s voice echoed. I honestly didn’t believe it at first, but boy, I’m actually feeling this. The echoes of voices, the falling leaves… My eyes weren’t open, and yet I could feel it completely.
I could even see the giant centipede tattoo coiling around Laurel’s left arm… Wait…
“You have tattoos?”
“... Let’s-let’s keep that between us, yeah?”
“...”
“Ahem. It’s probably useless for you since you have that magic eye, but train hard enough and you can attack anything within your vicinity. Or make it sticky like a spider web.”
So basically I could even see through walls and clothes as long as my mana reached the area. In addition, I could even make it sticky as well, rendering my opponents stuck. Then again, I could also capture unsuspecting women in my webs and do naughty things with them… Ehehehe.
“...”
“What?”
“Your face says it all.”
After that, I tried using it from time to time and got caught by Gyes for staring at the girls too much, but anyway, Laurel had a lot of things in store. Aside from reconnaissance, Laurel’s combat training was valuable as well.
Unlike Eris’s Sword God Style, Laurel was more skilled in both Water God Style and North God Style. With barely half a month of training, my swordsmanship skills in those two categories had improved to Advance, with Saint rank within grasp.
Initially, I was a bit reluctant to learn North God Style, with Gallus using hostages and all, but Laurel’s combat style relied more on hand-to-hand combat intertwined with magic, so it was quite helpful for me.
It was to the point where, along with my Demon Eye, I could easily handle Eris in a fight… Well, technically I could do that just with the Demon Eye, but still… At least it’s harder for me to get caught off guard like with Gyes.
…
There was an incident where Laurel declared his first heroic act after officially becoming the hero was to freeze an entire section of the forest with me and collect food for the villagers, but that was a story for another time.
The eve before we left the Doldia Village, Eris and Minitona had a fight. It went without saying, I’m sure, but Eris won easily. It turned out that the reason was because Eris had to leave the village but Tona didn’t want her to.
Conversations became squabbles and arguments because of insults, and from there it became a fistfight. And in the end?
“Just take them with you.”
“Wait... Both of them?”
“Yes. After all, someone has to take care of the Sacred Beast, and I don’t feel assured with just Tona alone.”
“... Aren’t you worried about your children?”
“It’s fine. You, Ruijerd, and Eris are there anyway.”
Said Gustav, without a single shred of hesitation. Laurel looked at him with his jaw practically dropped to the floor. Eris, on the other hand, was hugging and cheering happily with Minitona and Tersena in her arms like a child hugging plushies.
Seeing the girls so happily together, Laurel’s eyes slightly wavered.
“I mean… aren’t you too lax? I am a man after all, and the next season is…”
“I don’t mind you mating with them, hero. After all, you’re a trustworthy man. I’m sure Tersena’s side would think the same as well.”
… At this point, I don’t even know why Laurel’s being so resistant towards bringing the two along. I mean look at the three cute girls staring at Laurel with their big round eyes. Those two were practically begging to be taken, and their parents weren’t even opposing the idea.
“... That, uhm, ah… What about the village? Right! Isn’t she supposed to be the future village chief? Wouldn’t it be bad if—"
“Don’t worry about it. I still have Linia.”
“...”
“While that one’s a little troublesome, it would be fine if she takes over after Gyes. I can just bring her back when the time comes. The same with Pursena on the other end.”
“... I… see. Right. Linia and Pursena. Yes, of course, ahahaha… those two were yours...”
Laurel was sweating like bullets with a guilty look on his face. Come to think of it, didn’t Laurel say he was close to those two girls? No way, don’t tell me he already considered them in his pockets?
Tch, tch, tch. Lucky bastard. I thought he was a wimp, but this kid had big plans. Four cute beastfolk girls in his arms, ready for the taking eh?
…
The Holy Sword Highway was a road that went straight through the Great Forest. The beastfolk prepared everything we could possibly need for our trip. The carriage, the horse, travel money, and supplies.
We could head straight to the capital of Millis without once returning to Zant Port. It was time to head out! Or at least it was supposed to be, when for some reason a monkey-faced man approached us.
“Oh man, this is perfect timing. I was just thinking about going back to Millis. Let me ride with you guys."
Geese said, shamelessly hauling himself inside.
“You’re coming along, too?”
The others didn’t sound as annoyed by his appearance as I did. When I asked if they knew him, their answer showed he’d been gradually warming up to them without me noticing.
And the two of them had just welcomed him so easily. What, were they cheating on me with Geese?! As for Laurel…
“Me? Oh, nah. Geese and I went way back.”
Yeah, I figured they did since the last time Geese egged him on about being a War God or something. Anyways, I, Ruijerd, Eris, and her two friends, along with Laurel, Geese, and the Sacred Beast, the total of seven people and a dog, set off on the Holy Sword Highway, heading to Milis.
