My All Powerful System

Chapter 72: Lynx held back?

Amelia’s gaze slowly swept over all of them. Assessing them.

"Actually, this is why I called you all. I watched the fight he had with Jace. All 20 minutes. And that kid is something else. The way he used his Lightning affinity, no student anywhere could ever do that. The control, the precision... And I felt it. He was holding back. A lot."

"Lynx held back?" Thomas mumbled but none answered the big guy.

Amelia turned her white eyes directly to Jace.

"Explain what you felt from him during the fight. Let them understand me clearly. Don’t leave anything out."

Jace nodded once. His hand instinctively went to his chest, where the bruise was still healing even after two recovery pills. He could still feel it.

"When I sealed the stage," he began, voice steady but low, "I felt his real aura leak out. Slowly. Like he was testing me. He could control his aura extremely well. Too well for an 18 year old. What I felt... was just a fraction. Maybe 10%."

Rose leaned in, eyes sharp. "One word. What one word would you use to describe his aura?"

The room went quiet. Everyone was listening now. Even Thomas stopped flexing.

Jace exhaled.

"One word? Ancient. His aura was ancient. Like I was standing before a god, another outwordly being. Like the air itself was older than me. And that was just a fraction I felt."

Silence.

Heavy, suffocating silence.

Before, Thomas would’ve laughed. Selene would’ve scoffed. Mira wouldn’t have believed it.

But that was before.

That was before Lynx ended his Fire Affinity Ascension Trial with one punch.

Before he did the same in Ice Affinity Ascension Trial’s.

Before he fought Jace, one of the strongest teachers in the academy, and made him bleed and kneel.

Lynx used only Lightning... well it’s a lightning affinity trial.

He held back. He let Jace press his full aura on him, while only giving a fraction of his own.

"Continue," Amelia ordered quietly. Her voice was soft, but it cut through the silence.

Jace nodded. "His aura pressed on me. Then came his punches. He wasn’t even using raw strength. They were Lightning laced punches. And each one was devastating. The air ionized. A normal blessed would’ve been fried if this was a death match. I felt my nerves misfire."

He paused, jaw tightening. Memories flashing behind his eyes.

"The last move? I’m on recovery pills right now and I still feel it in my ribs. A fucking 18 year old boy made me kneel and bleed, real mouthful Blood. Then he forfeited. Like it was nothing to him."

Jace looked up, meeting Amelia’s white eyes.

"His speed was on another level. He was faster than me. And when he moves... I can’t hear anything. No footsteps. No breathing. I can’t feel his presence. I can’t even smell him. He’s visible, and invisible at the same time. Like a ghost."

Selene frowned, her pale brows drawing together. "Is that how he appeared? When he came on stage before your fight?"

"No," Jace said, shaking his head. "That was different. That was worse. When he moved during the fight, I could see him, but I couldn’t sense him. But when he appeared on stage... that was invisibility. Complete. I couldn’t see him. I couldn’t sense him. I don’t think anyone in the arena or any one watching it live could see him. And he wasn’t using an Artifact."

All eyes turned to Amelia.

She nodded once, slow. "Yes. I’ve replayed that part 20 times. Frame by frame. That was true invisibility. Not stealth. Not speed. True invisibility. Even I couldn’t see him."

The teachers went still.

The Headmistress.

Top 3 in the Empire.

Sister to the King.

Admitting she couldn’t see him.

Thomas swallowed audibly. Mira’s pen stopped moving. Even Selene’s mask cracked for a second.

Amelia stood up, her chair creaking. Her aura pressed down on the call, making the screens flicker and the lights dim.

"I know what you’re all thinking," she said. "You’re thinking this is bad. That we have a monster in Year 2. And 18 year old monster. But you’re wrong."

She smiled. Wide.

"I’m happy. Ecstatic, even."

Her voice rose, echoing in her office and through every speaker.

"AETHER BLESSED ACADEMY FINALLY HAS HOPE!

For 10 years we’ve been second. Third. Laughing stock in the Blessed Tournament. But not anymore.

We finally have a savior. Our long awaited savior is here. He will help us win the Blessed Tournament. He will make this academy number one again. And he will make this Empire the number one empire on this continent!"

She looked at each teacher through the screen, one by one.

"Lynx is stronger than all our students combined. Maybe stronger than half of you. So listen carefully. Unless you want to fight him yourself and end up like Jace, do NOT pair him with any other student in your Ascension Trials. He’s exempt."

She paused, letting it sink in.

"And I don’t even think it’s necessary for him to fight Year 3s. He already humiliated a Year 3 student and took his VIP room. Let’s not embarrass the seniors more than we have to."

Selene was the first to speak, voice respectful and clipped. "We’ve heard you, Headmistress. None of us will include him in our trials. He is automatically chosen to represent the academy. Occupying 5 slots out of the 50."

"That’s crazy," Mira muttered, writing it down. "Instead of 50 students, we’re sending 45. Because Lynx took 5 seats by himself. The math is going to look terrible on the report."

Thomas grinned, cracking his knuckles. The sound was like rocks breaking. "Well, makes our job easier. Now we just pick our strongest to go with Lynx. I’ve already chosen mine. Two brutes from Earth class. I assessed them and they are the strongest in their class. They could even hold their ground against a Year 3 student."

Jace nodded. "Same. Ava and Lynx for Year 2 Lightning. She’s the only one who won’t die standing next to him."

"Good," Amelia said. Then she looked at Thomas. "You want to fight him?"

"Hell yes," Thomas said immediately. "I need to see it with my own eyes. Feel it."

Amelia’s lips curled. "Then do it. All of you. I want to see him fight each of you. Not in public. In your private training spaces. No audience. Record it. Send it to me. I want data."

Everyone except Jace nodded. They all wanted it. They needed to know. Especially Rose, though she didn’t say it. Her fingers had tightened on the edge of her desk..luckily they couldn’t see it.

"Upload this to Academy News," Amelia said, final. "Lynx Azarion. First student chosen out of 50. Occupying 5 slots. Effective immediately."

Without waiting for a reply, she ended the call for everyone but Rose.

The screens blinked out one by one until it was just the two of them again.

"What?" Rose asked, guarded. She already knew what was coming.

Amelia tilted her head, studying her. "Don’t ’what’ me. Why does your face light up every time that kid’s name is mentioned? I’ve known you for years, Rose. I know your tells."

Rose’s eyes widened. "W-what? N-no. Get out of my head, Amelia." She hung up immediately, the screen going black.

Amelia was left alone in her dim office.

For a moment, nothing. Just the hum of the lamp. Then a soft, strange sound escaped her.

A laugh. A real short light sound escaped her lips.

It had been years since she’d done that.

Her hPad lit up again.

In seconds, the news was live on the Academy channel:

*BREAKING: Year 2 student Lynx Azarion, 18 years old. First person in Human History to be a 3 or more affinity user and he has 5 Affinities. He has been selected as one of the 50 students to represent AETHER Blessed Academy.

Only 44 slots remain, as Lynx occupies all 5 slots. Ava Musk from Year 2 Lightning Affinity Class occupies the 6th slot. Just 4 more Year 2 students remaining to fill up the 10 Year 2 students representing us.*

Amelia stared at Lynx’s photo on the screen. Even in a still image, he had that same look. Supremely Handsome. Calm. Unbothered. Dangerous. Like he knew something nobody else did.

She whispered to the empty room, her voice barely audible. But the smirk on her smooth face was visible in the dim light.

"This kid will surpass you brother. It won’t take long, and I can’t wait to witness it happen."
