Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Suddenly Rich

Zhao Zuo politely brought out two wooden blocks to serve as stools. There was no other hospitality to offer; it had taken him a long time just to find these two in his storage room.

"I’m here mainly to discuss the specific details of the split."

Shen Yunjiao got straight to the point. "First, let’s talk about the percentages. You critically wounded and killed the Shadow Wolf, so that accounts for a fifty percent contribution. I took the attacks and acted as bait, which I believe reasonably accounts for thirty percent. As for the remaining twenty percent, we’ll split it equally."

"So, I’ll take forty percent, and you’ll take sixty."

Zhao Zuo could tell that Shen Yunjiao had come to this conclusion after careful calculation, and the ratio was quite fair. Besides, his main goal was to learn the techniques for hunting Demon Beasts. There was no need to haggle over the details and risk damaging their friendly partnership.

Of course, his generosity had its limits. If Shen Yunjiao had been too greedy, their partnership would have ended then and there.

"That’s very reasonable. I accept that split." Zhao Zuo nodded, a sense of anticipation growing within him.

"The Demon Beast meat totaled three thousand eight hundred pounds and sold for three hundred seventy Spirit Stones. The other materials sold for one hundred thirty Spirit Stones, for a total of five hundred. As we agreed, I’ll take fifty Spirit Stones off the top," Shen Yunjiao continued. "That leaves two hundred sixty Spirit Stones for you and one hundred ninety for me."

Shen Yunjiao took out a pouch of Spirit Stones and handed it to Zhao Zuo. "Count it."

"By the way, the Shadow Wolf heart you kept is valued at thirty Spirit Stones, and the Demon Beast meat at another ten, for a total of forty. Out of that forty, sixteen Spirit Stones are my share," Shen Yunjiao said, looking up at Zhao Zuo seriously after handing over the pouch.

"Of course, of course. Taoist Friend Shen, I’ll give you your share right away." Zhao Zuo smiled, opened the pouch, counted out sixteen Spirit Stones, and handed them to Shen Yunjiao.

"A successful first partnership."

As Shen Yunjiao took the Spirit Stones, a satisfied smile graced her face. Zhao Zuo glanced over, momentarily stunned by her beauty. Her smile seemed to hold a special kind of Magic Power, making the entire room feel brighter.

"A pleasure," Zhao Zuo replied.

Next, they discussed the date for their next Demon Beast hunt, settling on the following night. This time, however, they would change their strategy: Shen Yunjiao would create an opening, and Zhao Zuo would need to control his Magical Artifact to launch a sneak attack at the critical moment... to deal as much damage as possible.

If Zhao Zuo managed to land the killing blow, he would receive a fixed sixty percent of the Spirit Stones from the hunt. If he only managed to critically wound the beast, they would renegotiate the split. Both of them were satisfied with this arrangement.

Zhao Zuo noticed that when it came to Spirit Stones, Shen Yunjiao was meticulous to a fault, calculating every single stone with absolute clarity. The good thing, however, was that she had a sense of propriety; she was never greedy and only ever took the share that was rightfully hers.

Zhao Zuo watched as Shen Yunjiao departed via the rooftop, her graceful figure slowly vanishing from his view.

’It’s really lucky that I was able to meet someone like Shen Yunjiao after coming to this world,’ Zhao Zuo suddenly thought. ’At the very least, she didn’t take advantage of my weakness to get greedy. And in our partnership, she never used her own... strength to reduce my rightful share.’

Returning to his bedroom, Zhao Zuo eagerly sat on the bed. He took the money pouch from his Storage Bag and, with a turn of his hand, poured the Spirit Stones out. They scattered across the bed, glowing with a faint Spiritual Light. It seemed as if their very presence had enriched the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi in the room.

With a huge pile of Spirit Stones laid out before him, Zhao Zuo’s breath grew heavy.

’It’s so much, really... so much I don’t even know how to spend it all.’

Zhao Zuo subconsciously caressed the pile of Spirit Stones with his right hand, a look of fascination spreading across his face.

’I bet these Spirit Stones feel even better than a girl’s cheek.’

He quickly regained his composure, and much of his joy subsided. To upgrade the Clear Heart Jade Pendant, he needed twenty Creation Points. But right now, he had no way to forge Spirit Iron... which put him in an awkward position.

Besides, while Zhao Zuo trusted Shen Yunjiao, he still intended to carefully count the Spirit Stones. After all, you don’t have to be malicious, but you must always be on your guard.

’It’s always family and friends who betray you.’

Zhao Zuo counted them carefully and confirmed the number was correct. He returned the Spirit Stones to the pouch and put it back in his Storage Bag. Now he had to consider what to spend them on.

’First, I need to expand my offensive capabilities and diversify my fighting style. Second, I should buy some Supporting Magical Artifacts to add to my repertoire, like a cloak that can conceal my aura, a Magical Robe engraved with a Magic Skill, or some other wondrous auxiliary items.’

’I’m not going to hold onto these Spirit Stones for too long. The right move is to invest them in myself right away. That way I won’t end up dead with a pile of money I never got to spend.’

’Sitting still just makes me antsy. Rather than agonizing over it here, I should head to the Spirit Treasure Pavilion and broaden my horizons. To be honest, I’m more inclined to buy a Magical Artifact or some Pill Medicine to speed up my Cultivation. I need to get into the Moyun Sect as soon as possible and find that Dharma Method for Perfect Foundation Establishment.’

Zhao Zuo changed into a clean Taoist Robe, then with a casual wave of his hand, his appearance transformed. His face became chiseled and angular, with resolute lines that made him look full of spirit. In profile, his features appeared even more profound and strong, while his slightly deep-set eyes accentuated a calm and steady personality.

Zhao Zuo planned to use this as his regular disguise and even created an identity for it: Zhao Yun.

After a quick tidy-up, Zhao Zuo left his home. By day, Qingni Lane had a much more lively atmosphere and seemed more peaceful than at night, when any encounter... was basically a fight to the death.

However, the pedestrians were still on high alert. They kept several meters apart even when passing on the street. Most hurried along with tense expressions... as if everyone was poised to strike at a moment’s notice.

The atmosphere began to weigh on Zhao Zuo, and his light steps grew heavy. Once he left Qingni Lane, he immediately activated a Light Body Talisman. Each tap of his toes sent him flying about ten meters forward, but he didn’t dare let his guard down for even a second.

A few months ago, he would never have dared to go out shopping in such a dangerous environment. But after several battles and multiple life-or-death struggles—where great terror and great opportunity coexist—he had become far more composed.

Zhao Zuo suddenly smiled and quickened his pace... his figure gradually vanishing into the wind and snow.

It wasn’t long before Moyun Market came into view. Zhao Zuo made his way through the area of street stalls, occasionally glancing down to inspect items that looked like Magical Artifacts. He found nothing of interest. Just as he was about to give up, his right hand brushed against a Jade Cicada in the corner of a stall.

The Jade Cicada wasn’t large, only about six centimeters long. Its body was a pale gold, the material crystalline and translucent, emitting a gentle, clear light. It looked entirely natural. The veins on its wings were distinct, with some sections nearing transparency. The cicada’s eyes held a peculiar, ancient weariness.
