My Beasts Grind Proficiency For Me

Chapter 507 - 21: Contest in the Hall

Si Taizhen glanced at his other brothers, who were seated at the head table. With some hesitation, he said to Yi Hongzheng,

"Can you refine the Five Qi Nourishing Essence Pill?"

He had awakened the Soaring Serpent Bloodline, and his talent towered over the many other princes of the Jade Poison Kingdom.

But this gift did not come without a price.

Si Taizhen had spent ten years in his mother’s womb before he was born. His mother was merely an ordinary Snake Demon, her cultivation barely reaching the Great Demon Realm. The effort of gestating him had depleted her Vitality, and she had nearly perished from the lack of it.

It was the Jade Poison Great Saint who saw that the child’s bloodline was bound to be extraordinary and thus expended a great deal of Spirit Medicine to replenish his mother’s Vitality.

If not for that, Si Taizhen might never have been born at all.

But his mother’s extreme loss of Vitality had caused lasting damage, leaving her with a chronic ailment. After giving birth to Si Taizhen, her status rose with her son’s, and she was provided with all sorts of Spirit Medicines. Despite this, because of her old ailment, her hair remained white, and her Blood Qi was weak.

The Five Qi Nourishing Essence Pill was one of the best Tier Three Elixirs for replenishing Vitality.

If his mother couldn’t take a Five Qi Nourishing Essence Pill every seven years, her lifespan would be further depleted.

But the Five Qi Nourishing Essence Pill was a Tier Three Elixir, useful even to Tier Three Demon Kings. Si Taizhen’s mother was just a Great Demon with few years left to live. The Five Qi Nourishing Essence Pills acquired by the Jade Poison Kingdom would never be allocated to her.

Every seven years, Si Taizhen had to wrack his brain over this Five Qi Nourishing Essence Pill. If Yi Hongzheng could refine it, he would have to take the risk, even if it was part of some conspiracy.

Of course, if this truly meant a supply of Spirit Pills for his cultivation, he couldn’t ask for anything more.

’Third Brother has turned the Bishui Kingdom into a complete mess. I want to set things right, but my hands are tied. If I can rely on the elixirs from these two Alchemists to reach the Nascent Soul Demon Saint realm a few years sooner, I’ll finally have the power to change the face of the Jade Poison Kingdom.’

Seeing Si Taizhen agree, Yi Hongzheng felt his heart settle, and he returned to the feast.

To the sound of lutes and flutes, dancers in light gauze drifted into the hall, their bodies wrapped in cloud-like silks. Holding colorful ribbons, they began to dance in midair.

"Third Brother, do you have any idea what elixir Danxia True Monarch is refining for the Father King? Could it be that the missing Xuyu Coral has fallen into his hands?"

The Fifth Prince, who had earlier stopped Si Taizhen from killing the Demon Cultivator Xie Zhiwei, asked with curiosity.

For those of the long-lived Celestial Snake Bloodline, the effects of the Xuyu Coral paled in comparison to Spirit Pills that could advance their cultivation. The reason he had tried to curry favor with Xie Zhiwei was to use his father’s connections to meet a few Alchemists.

The Jade Poison Kingdom had a long history and had inherited the formulas for many Spirit Pills sufficient for cultivation, but demons were simply not skilled in Alchemy. They had once tried to specially train a few talented Demon Snakes, wasting a massive amount of Spirit Medicine in the process. In the end, those Demon Snakes could only refine some Tier One Middle Grade elixirs that were still riddled with a high concentration of Elixir Poison. It was a complete waste of effort.

"Not at all," the Third Prince said, glancing at his loose-lipped younger brother.

’Can he just say things like that? Doesn’t he know how many Celestial Demons and Demon Cultivators are after that Xuyu Coral? If people take his words as truth, the Jade Poison Kingdom won’t see a day of peace for a long time.’

"This time, the Father King has requested Danxia True Monarch to refine the Celestial Snake Pill."

Upon hearing the name Celestial Snake Pill, the eyes of every prince present flashed with a brilliant light.

The Celestial Snake Pill was a Tier Four Upper Grade Spirit Pill capable of increasing the purity of the Celestial Snake Bloodline.

For a Demon, one’s bloodline is the equivalent of a Cultivator’s Spirit Root. A pill that could enhance one’s natural aptitude, the Celestial Snake Pill was an exceptionally rare Treasure Pill.

"Does this mean the Father King has already gathered all the necessary Spirit Medicines?"

The Fifth Prince was so excited that he shot to his feet, knocking over the table in front of him.

"Hmph. Do you think Danxia True Monarch is so easy to hire? How could we dare to ask him to begin refining without first gathering all the necessary Spirit Medicines?"

The Third Prince chided him.

"I know it’s been difficult for you younger brothers to advance your cultivation. While we brothers can’t gather the Spirit Medicines for the Celestial Snake Pill on our own, we should be able to manage the ingredients for the lesser Bone Snake Essence Pill and Long Snake Transformation Green Pill. The Spirit Medicines for these two elixirs are hard to find, but it’s not a task one person can complete in a short time. We should all work together!"

These two elixirs, unlike the Celestial Snake Pill, couldn’t enhance one’s natural talent, but they still had the miraculous effect of advancing one’s cultivation and helping to consolidate one’s Demon Body.

The princes conferred for a moment before settling on a plan. They decided to pool their resources to gather the Spirit Medicines, hoping to persuade Danxia True Monarch to refine a few extra batches for them.

With the agreement made, the atmosphere at the banquet immediately grew more harmonious, taking on a semblance of brotherly affection and respect.

"This dance is just a bunch of weak flailing. There’s nothing worth watching," the Seventh Prince boomed. "I bet our three honored guests are bored to tears. Why don’t we have our Personal Guards spar here in the hall to liven things up a bit?"

The Seventh Prince was a tall, bald man, his face etched with aggression.

He was a rare Fire Python of the Celestial Snake Lineage. With a fiery temper, he was bloodthirsty and loved to kill. Among all the princes, his martial arts were second only to Si Taizhen.

The other princes remained noncommittal. Their Demon Generals, especially the Personal Guards they had brought to the feast, were assets they had painstakingly cultivated. To lose one for no good reason would be a painful setback that would sting for months.

The Seventh Prince turned his gaze to Si Taizhen.

"Eleventh Brother," he said, "I hear you recently recruited a fierce general. You must think highly of him, even entrusting him with the Demon-slaying Sword for safekeeping. Why not bring him to the feast and let my subordinate test his mettle?"

He had revealed his true intentions.

The Seventh Prince was extremely competitive, yet he had been repeatedly defeated by Si Taizhen, a brother much younger than himself. Though he appeared boorish, he was actually petty and still held a grudge over his past failures.

But since he couldn’t defeat his brother, he could only try to exact a little interest by targeting his close Personal Guard.

Si Taizhen’s eyes narrowed. He knew exactly what his "dear" brother was planning.

"My subordinate’s cultivation is shallow. What’s there to see? Why don’t you and I have a match right here in the hall, Seventh Brother? We can provide some entertainment for our guests."

Hearing Si Taizhen’s challenge, the Seventh Prince’s face instantly flushed beet-red.

He had already had a few too many cups of Spirit Wine, and his blood was running hot. Staring at Si Taizhen, he said viciously,

"Fine by me! I’d love to see how much you’ve progressed these past few years, Eleventh Brother! But it would be a bit dull if we started right away. Let’s have our men fight a few rounds first!"

The Seventh Prince might have been a little drunk, but he knew he had been utterly defeated by his younger brother twelve years ago. After so many years, the gap between them had likely only grown wider.

Si Taizhen hadn’t expected his Seventh Brother to be so intent on embarrassing him.

He shot the Seventh Prince a sideways glance and decided he would intervene as soon as Yang Jing showed any sign of losing.

"As you wish."

A short while later, two maids led Yang Jing into the hall. He was carrying the Demon-slaying Sword.

Si Taizhen’s eyes fell upon him, and he sniffed the air.

"Does Third Brother have no sense of hospitality? Did they not offer you any food or drink?"

"This subordinate is holding the sword for the Prince. How could I dare neglect my duty for a little food and drink?"

Yang Jing replied, the very picture of diligence.

The Seventh Prince waved his hand. A torrent of fiery Demon Power surged forth, driving all the dancers from the center of the hall.

He had no sense of chivalry; the scorching Demon Fire even burned a few of the maids who couldn’t dodge in time.

"Iron Fiend, you’re up. Go and see what this subordinate of my Eleventh Brother is made of."

At the Seventh Prince’s command, a seven-foot-tall man with bluish-black skin stepped forward. His body was a mass of knotted muscle, as if he were cast from solid iron.

He wore no armor, his upper body bare. A savage grin split his face, revealing a mouthful of sharp teeth.

"So, you’re Si Bing?"

Yang Jing’s eyes narrowed. The Evil Qi and resentment radiating from Iron Fiend were so thick they were practically spilling out of him.

His Grotto Dark Dharma Eye was fully developed, and a single glance was enough to tell him this was no Snake Demon, but some kind of bizarre Turtle Demon.

"Please, enlighten me."
