"That damned old geezer, Jade Poison! How dare he make a monkey out of us!"
The White Bone Demon paced back and forth in the hall of his Demon Palace, fuming. After his disciples and grand-disciples received their share of the Talisman Treasures, they hadn’t dared to rest for a moment. They had activated their Treasure Mirrors and scoured the Jade Poison Kingdom, only to unexpectedly detect the marker’s presence, faint as it was, within the palace of the Jade Poison Great Saint.
The Jade Poison Great Saint was quite renowned. Possessing the Celestial Snake Inheritance, he was considered a top-tier expert among Nascent Soul Cultivators.
The White Bone Demon first dispatched several disciples, all of whom used their Talisman Treasures to confirm the marker’s location. Only then did he personally go to test the Jade Poison Great Saint’s reaction. To his surprise, the Great Saint’s attitude was indeed strange; he was heavily guarded and on high alert.
When he postured as if to force his way in, that bastard Jade Poison attacked him directly.
The White Bone Demon prided himself on his powerful physique, but he found he had no advantage in this area when facing the Jade Poison Great Saint. After a few exchanges, he wisely retreated.
However, this only made him certain that the Xuyu Coral must be in Jade Poison’s possession.
The thought of knowing where the Xuyu Coral was, yet being unable to reach it, felt like a thousand claws were scratching at the White Bone Demon’s heart.
In the hall, his disciples and grand-disciples were as silent as winter cicadas, terrified of drawing the White Bone Demon’s attention and bringing disaster upon themselves.
The White Bone Demon was notoriously capricious and loved to take his anger out on his disciples. At the slightest displeasure, he would use them to vent his frustrations, often beating or even killing them.
Seeing his disciples’ pathetic state only fueled the White Bone Demon’s wicked temper. However, he restrained himself from punishing them, as plotting for the Xuyu Coral was his priority, and he still had a use for them.
’That old geezer Jade Poison is too powerful. I’m simply not his match.’
’Since I can’t crack this tough nut on my own,’ the White Bone Demon thought, ’I’ll have to team up with other Nascent Souls from the Demon Sects. But Demon Cultivators are mostly selfish. We can call it an alliance, but once we break through the Jade Poison Kingdom’s Array Formation, everyone will drop the act and fight for the Xuyu Coral based on their own power.’
’As a mere Body Cultivator, my range of abilities is much more limited than other Demon Cultivators. If it really comes down to a scramble, I’ll be at a serious disadvantage.’
The White Bone Demon was hesitant. He turned his gaze to Yang Jing.
"Worthy Nephew, given the current situation, do you have any good ideas?"
Yang Jing had, of course, seen through the White Bone Demon’s thoughts at a glance. The old demon already had a plan; he just couldn’t bring himself to commit to it.
"Martial Uncle, as the saying goes: aim high, and you’ll hit the middle; aim for the middle, and you’ll fall short. Even if you fail to seize the Longevity Elixir, you can at least plunder some of the Jade Poison Kingdom’s treasures."
He continued, persuading the White Bone Demon,
"Besides, Martial Uncle, you can always form an alliance. Join forces with some fellow Demon Sect members you know. The part of the Xuyu Coral with the life-extending properties is the Coral Fruit, after all. You can unite with several others, seize the Xuyu Coral, and then split the fruits evenly."
The White Bone Demon’s eyes, more demonic than human, fell upon Yang Jing. The young man’s words were exactly what he wanted to hear.
’With more people, my share of the Coral Fruit will be limited,’ he thought, ’but the wealth that old geezer Jade Poison has accumulated over the years can more than make up for it. The real problem is who to ally with.’
’If I ally with too many, there won’t be enough Coral Fruit to go around. If I ally with too few, we might not be able to take down that old geezer, let alone intimidate the other Nascent Soul Cultivators.’
The White Bone Demon hesitated for a long moment before finally making a decision.
He had been running with the Demon Sects for so long that he naturally had a few acquaintances. Entrusting his life to them would be a joke, but he could trust them to collude in villainy—to burn, kill, and plunder.
Several major unsolved crimes in the Northern Continent had been their handiwork.
Having made up his mind, he used a special technique to notify his associates who had also come to the Jade Poison Kingdom. A Life-Extending Spiritual Object like the Xuyu Coral had, of course, attracted quite a few Nascent Souls from the Demon Sects.
His close associates were Tribulation Cultivators, considered capable of any evil even among other Demon Cultivators. Naturally, they had come to the Jade Poison Kingdom to get in on the action.
In less than two hours, two Nascent Soul Cultivators slipped silently into the Demon Palace.
"White Bone, have you found some profitable venture that requires the two of us to join you?"
They assumed the White Bone Demon had found a suitable "fat sheep" to fleece.
The White Bone Demon snorted coldly. He knew it wasn’t a coincidence that the two had arrived together. They must have feared he would try to ambush them, so they had joined forces beforehand.
Then again, putting himself in their shoes, he would have been just as cautious if he had received such an invitation from them.
"Hmph. What ’fat sheep’ could possibly compare to that old geezer Jade Poison?"
Yang You Old Demon was taken aback. He looked the White Bone Demon up and down.
"White Bone, what kind of fortuitous encounter did you have? Did your Power increase so much that you dare to have designs on Jade Poison? As a descendant of the Upper Realm, his Power is far beyond that of an ordinary Nascent Soul Cultivator."
"With the Jade Poison Great Saint’s Power, you’d need to ally with at least five people to have a decent chance of taking him down. And even then, he might take one or two of you with him in a final, desperate struggle."
"Not to mention, the Jade Poison Kingdom has a long history. They must have some trump cards passed down through the generations."
"With our current Power, trying to crack this tough nut would only get our teeth knocked out."
The three had known one another for several hundred years and were intimately familiar with each other’s temperaments. The other man, Yang Di, widened his eyes and stared at the White Bone Demon.
"Could it be? Is the Xuyu Coral in the Jade Poison Great Saint’s hands?!"
Only a treasure as significant as a Longevity Elixir could make the White Bone Demon—who appeared brutal but was in fact very cautious—commit to making a move against the Jade Poison Great Saint.
The White Bone Demon didn’t try to hide it and nodded directly.
"The three of us combined will have a hard time taking down that old geezer Jade Poison. We must find three more people and gather the strength of six."
He refused to believe that six of them working together couldn’t take down the Jade Poison Great Saint.
With a treasure like the Xuyu Coral, which could continuously produce Life-Extending Spiritual Objects, gathering six people wouldn’t be difficult. This was especially true for those Demon Cultivators whose lifespans were nearing their end; they would be more than willing to risk their lives for it.
"Easy," Yang You Old Demon said with a confident expression. "As long as you’re certain the Xuyu Coral is in the Jade Poison Great Saint’s hands, forget three people—I’ll find you ten if you need them."
"However, I heard that old ghost Danxia is also in the Jade Poison Kingdom. If he sides with the Jade Poison Great Saint, that could complicate things."
Yang Di had been undercover in the Jade Poison Kingdom for some time and had already used his methods to uncover a great deal of information. Danxia True Monarch had come to the Jade Poison Kingdom without much fanfare, but he hadn’t hidden his tracks either, keeping a rather low profile.
"Danxia’s skill in Alchemy is astonishing, but his methods in Magical Combat are nothing to write home about," the White Bone Demon said. "Besides, he was only invited here for Alchemy. It’s unlikely he’ll jump into this mess and risk his life for that old geezer."
He had heard of Danxia True Monarch’s reputation even from as far away as the Northern Continent.
"True. The Central Continent Sects occupy the most fertile lands, but they’re filled with pampered cowards who cling to life. For all we know, he’ll flee the moment we show our faces."
