Seeing this scene, I told myself to stay calm. I absolutely couldn’t trust what I saw at first glance; People’s thoughts are usually wrong when driven by impulse.
I slowly made my way to the kitchen, deciding to prepare breakfast myself while waiting for Yumi to wake up.
Perhaps my footsteps were too quiet, so I resorted to a trick: as I reached for the tray, I deliberately let it slip from my hands.
The metal tray clattered loudly onto the floor, and immediately afterward, I heard movement in Jihoon’s bedroom.
I continued pretending to prepare breakfast.
Yumi emerged, drowsy and bleary-eyed, adjusting her hair and smoothing her nightgown.
Spotting me in the kitchen, her lovely cheeks flushed slightly. She playfully stuck her tongue out at me, showing not a trace of awkwardness or panic, but rather a carefree ease.
“Awake?” I glanced at her before returning to slice bread for sandwiches.
“Mhm. The little one woke up for a second time last night. It took forever to calm him down. I was so exhausted, I ended up dozing off myself. No idea when I fell asleep, but I slept straight through until morning…”
Yumi said, rubbing her eyes and showing no sign of unease.
It was clear she was telling the truth. After all, she’d been utterly worn out these past few days. Falling asleep like that was only natural. It looked like I’d jumped to conclusions.
“Is the baby still asleep?” I pressed.
“Not yet. I’m letting him sleep a little longer. Today I’ll take him out to buy some clothes… and tidy him up properly while I’m at it…” Yumi said, preparing to wash up.
Beneath her nightgown, her sensual figure was faintly visible.
“You’re still letting him sleep? We’ll be late soon…” I glanced at my watch and couldn’t help but urge her.
“Hah… Honey, it’s the weekend today…”
Yumi covered her mouth with a soft laugh just before entering the bathroom.
Sigh. Was I spacing out? I’d even forgotten what day it was.
Teachers and students have it good… weekends and public holidays. As a journalist, I had no concept of a fixed vacation schedule.
Soon, Yumi finished her morning routine, and breakfast was ready.
“Go wake up Jihoon for breakfast…” I placed three plates on the table.
“Let him sleep in. It’s rare that he sleeps so soundly…” Yumi glanced at Jihoon’s closed bedroom door before speaking, then lowered her head to chew her breakfast slowly.
I looked at Yumi, hesitating to speak.
Then I remembered the obscene books and magazines tucked away in Jihoon’s suitcase.
Should I warn Yumi? I wanted to prevent Jihoon from developing misguided ideas… After all, he was entering adolescence, an age when sexual curiosity begins to surge.
“Yumi…”
I took a few bites of my sandwich, glanced at Jihoon’s closed door, then leaned close to whisper in her ear.
“What is it, honey?”
“Well… you see, now that there is another male at home, maybe you should consider changing your clothes?” I said, gesturing toward Yumi’s revealing nightgown.
As she bent over to eat, her arms holding the sandwich pushed her breasts together, creating deep cleavage.
After hearing my words, Yumi glanced down at her outfit.
I’d expected her to suddenly understand, but I was wrong. She looked down a few times, completely unconcerned.
“So you think I dress too sexy? Worried the baby might see? Hehe, honey, are you actually jealous of a little kid?”
Yumi said, setting down her sandwich and running to my side. She wrapped her arms around mine, her ample breasts rubbing against my arm.
“It’s not jealousy. I’m worried it might have a bad influence on the child…”
I avoided looking into Yumi’s eyes. To be honest, I was a little jealous—I didn’t know why I’d feel jealous of a child.
I didn’t meet her gaze because the eyes are the windows to the soul, and I feared she’d see through my lie.
“Honey, we really don’t need to worry so much. Soon he’ll be our son, part of our family. Why should we be so self-conscious with just the three of us? Besides, he’s just a child.”
Yumi gently shook my arm, as if persuading and comforting me.
“When I was little, my mom sometimes wore just her underwear at home and never felt shy around me or my brother. Besides, I’ve been dressing like this for so long. Asking me to change now would feel really awkward.”
Thinking it over, she was right. I remembered my mother often wearing underwear around the house when I was little. She’d even sleep in just her panties with the door open at night.
Sometimes she’d ask me to help fasten her bra clasp. Back then, she had no ulterior motives…
After all, I was her son. She felt no need for modesty, and I never once viewed her body as taboo. It simply never crossed my mind.
“But… Jihoon is different… He’s…” He’s a monk who converted later in life. I’d intended to say that, but the words stuck in my throat. After all, that description felt inappropriate.
“Alright, alright. Since you insist, honey, I’ll buy another nightgown today. We really don’t have any conservative ones at home, sigh.”
Yumi pouted slightly before planting a soft kiss on my cheek.
I smiled softly. Yumi was still so obedient. Sometimes she was a bit scatterbrained, always simplifying things. That’s why she had such a wide circle of friends—everyone wanted to be her buddy. It was also why she lived so happily and carefree.
“Honey, I’m heading out. Call me if anything comes up…” I took a bite of my sandwich and grabbed my briefcase as I walked out the door.
After a long, mentally draining day at work, evening finally arrived. I hurried home. No matter what, only home could make me feel at ease and warm.
Upon entering, I saw Yumi in an apron preparing dinner, while Jihoon, dressed in new clothes, sat watching TV on the sofa.
Progress, at last.
Just a couple of days ago, the boy would sit blankly like a piece of wood whenever idle, lost in thought. Now he was at least watching TV. It probably won’t be long before he fully recovers.
“You’re back, honey. Wash up and come eat…”
Yumi emerged from the kitchen wearing her apron, carrying dishes.
At the dinner table, Yumi focused all her attention on Jihoon, serving him food and chatting nonstop, leaving me, her husband, feeling neglected.
Having lost both parents, Jihoon craved nothing more than care and affection. Yumi was desperately trying to fill that void.
I understood perfectly well why, yet I still couldn’t help feeling a little resentful. It was only natural.
Before, Yumi’s attention had been solely on me. Now, with a child in the picture, she’d divided her love, care, and focus between us.
“Don’t overthink it. This is just a normal part of family life…” I kept telling myself.
During dinner, I half-jokingly asked Yumi why she no longer served me food.
Her reply was, “You’re an adult, Jihoon is a child… does he still need me to serve him?”
We bantered back and forth, seemingly lightening the mood at the table.
Yumi didn’t notice my petty jealousy or discomfort.
After dinner, Yumi tidied up briefly before urging Jihoon to bed.
It was clear that after these two days of interaction, Jihoon’s mood had improved significantly—at least he was talking more with Yumi.
After all, Yumi was his teacher, and they spent the most time together daily. It was only natural for them to be close.
As for me, I was rarely home, and the child had only just gotten to know me. Building that bond would take time.
Come bedtime, I lay in bed playing with my iPad while Yumi changed into a new nightgown… a two-piece set with a top and pants that looked quite conservative, finally covering her figure completely.
Yet her ample bust stretched the fabric taut, threatening to burst the buttons open at any moment.
Yumi seemed distinctly uncomfortable in this sudden choice of nightwear. She shifted occasionally, as if adjusting to the fabric’s embrace. Soon, she appeared unable to endure it any longer.
A thought seemed to occur to her, and she slipped off the nightgown, then removed her bra. Her vibrant breasts emerged, their pink nipples glistening.
After removing her bra, Yumi slipped the nightgown back on, a look of relief washing over her face.
Many women dislike the constriction of bras, finding it far more comfortable to sleep without one at night. Yumi usually slept in both a bra and nightgown, but today’s nightgown was simply too uncomfortable, forcing her to sacrifice her bra for a bit of relief.
After adjusting herself, Yumi playfully pouted at me, a hint of reproach on her petite face.
She playfully punched me lightly, yet my heart felt warm. After all, just a few words from me had prompted her to alter a long-standing habit.
Before long, it was time for bed.
I grabbed two earplugs and stuffed them into my ears. I’d been startled awake by Jihoon’s nightmares these past few days. My job was already exhausting, making sleep precious. Jihoon’s nightly screams had severely disrupted my rest, so earplugs were my only option. It might seem ridiculous, but at least it offered some relief.
Yumi couldn’t help but cover her mouth and giggle softly at my expression. I pursed my lips, pulled the blanket over my head, and fell into a deep sleep.
Hours later, I woke up with a burning urge to pee. As a journalist, I rarely get up at night… but last night’s dinner had me feeling down, so I had downed two bottles of beer. And beer always does this to me: constant trips to the bathroom.
Waking up groggily, I felt something was off. Glancing at the clock, it was already past three in the morning.
Surprisingly, I hadn’t been startled awake by Jihoon’s nightmares tonight. It seemed the kid was finally adjusting—at least he wasn’t screaming in his sleep anymore.
At that moment, I reached out beside me.
Following my old habit, whether getting up in the middle of the night or waking before Yumi, I’d playfully grab a handful of her ample bosom, often earning a sleepy slap in return.
But this time, my groggy hand found nothing. The space beside me was completely empty.
My drowsiness vanished instantly.
I quickly grabbed my phone and shone its light beside me, only to discover Yumi wasn’t there at all.
Where had she gone? The bathroom?
I hurriedly got out of bed, quietly opened the door, and slowly made my way to the living room.
There, I saw the bathroom light wasn’t even on. I thought to myself, who would go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without turning on the light?
