"Qianqian, I feel like something’s a little off with my aunt..." It was already noon the next day when Fan Lin called.

Wen Qian could tell from her voice that she was feeling down.

"What’s wrong?" she asked softly.

She could more or less understand Fan Shang’s feelings. It was all because of the Critical Stone.

Wen Qian couldn’t help her. The only thing she could do was fulfill her promise and buy her some more time.

"She’s been so distracted these past few days... Our student union had a show, and she was a judge, but she actually zoned out in the middle of a performance!" Fan Lin’s voice was hesitant. "And I saw... I think she was crying."

It was just a song and dance performance. How could that make someone cry?

"She won’t tell me anything when I ask... SIGH..."

Fan Lin was very close with her aunt. When she was little, her aunt was the one who always took her to and from her tutoring classes. And every time, her aunt would buy her lots of tasty snacks...

"Maybe it’s the weather. Autumn always makes people feel a bit melancholy." As she spoke, the woman looked up at the treetops, dotted with the first red leaves of the season, her voice carrying a deeper meaning.

In such a gloomy season, even goodbyes seemed to become a matter of course.

"Sigh, I don’t know," Fan Lin mumbled, not wanting to dwell on something she couldn’t solve.

Sitting cross-legged in her chair and holding the phone with her neck, Fan Lin lifted a hand and drew a near-perfect line of eyeliner.

After checking her reflection for a moment, a smile returned to her face. "Qianqian, when are you coming back? I miss you..."

The relationships between girls were always so strange.

A relationship that had been as bland as plain water could, in the next instant, become incredibly intimate over a single incident or a few words.

Wen Qian was uncertain about her own future after the Critical Stone was assembled, so she cherished the people around her all the more.

Not just the Beastmen, but the humans as well.

She had rushed back from South City to City A just to see Fan Lin.

They went shopping together and ate together. Before they parted ways, Wen Qian even went out of her way to pick out an orange elephant keychain for her at an accessory shop.

Wen Qian believed orange was the color of happiness and suited Fan Lin perfectly.

After seeing Fan Lin off, she spotted a set of little monster blind box keychains. There were nine in total, and no one knew what they looked like until they were opened.

When she passed a fast-food restaurant, Wen Qian gave one to the Beastman server. The rest she took home.

The Beastmen were overjoyed to receive a gift from Wen Qian.

Shen Mqing eagerly tore open his blind box, revealing a little green monster holding an electric guitar.

"Are you in love or something?" the Little Fox asked slyly.

At first, Shen Mqing didn’t understand what he meant. After a moment, it dawned on him, and he shot a fierce glare at the Little Fox.

Jogging back to his bedroom, Shen Mqing happily attached the keychain to his new carrying case for his game console.

The Little Fox opened his to find a pink-haired little monster hugging a heart-shaped pillow.

Chi Ye’s was a little monster with khaki-colored hair, dressed in denim.

Gu Mian’s was a gentlemanly little monster playing the piano.

Chi Heng’s was a blue-haired little monster riding a skateboard.

Li Jiu’s was a red-haired little monster holding a small duck balloon.

There were three left unopened: one for Ling Xuan and one for Yin Zhi.

The last one, Wen Qian kept for herself.

’The fun of a blind box lies in the unknown, and life is the same way.’ Wen Qian rarely fretted over the unknown. ’If some things are destined to be out of your control, you might as well enjoy the ride.’

「By the time Yin Zhi returned, it was the middle of the following night.」

As Wen Qian was going downstairs for a glass of water, she saw him and Ling Xuan walk in, one after the other.

What she didn’t expect, however, was the tall woman following behind them.

The woman had an enviable figure. She wore a tight, army-green long-sleeved shirt under a khaki utility vest, paired with black outdoor trousers and vintage mid-calf boots. Her entire look radiated a rugged, untamable coolness.

Wen Qian couldn’t help but stare. The woman gave her slightly curled, long red hair a little shake, and a silver skull earring was revealed.

Her eyes landed on Wen Qian, and a distinct smirk played on her lips. She stepped around Yin Zhi and graciously extended a hand to her. "Shen Junyi."

Wen Qian froze for a second before extending her own hand.

They shook briefly, and as they let go, the woman gave her a wink.

"Why are you still up?" Yin Zhi stepped forward, his hand enclosing Wen Qian’s. His tired eyes held a hint of concern.

"I was thirsty..." Wen Qian lifted the cup in her hand.

Yin Zhi said nothing, simply nuzzling the tip of his nose against her earlobe as if no one else was there.

"Ahem, for the room, perhaps Miss Shen could stay with Wen—"

"No," Yin Zhi cut him off coldly. After sneaking a glance at Wen Qian, he continued, "Get my room ready for her."

Ling Xuan hesitated, but seeing that Shen Junyi also looked unconcerned, he immediately headed upstairs.

The woman quietly studied Yin Zhi and Wen Qian, the smirk on her bright red lips growing more pronounced.

"Aw, and I was so looking forward to being your roommate," the woman said, her eyes on Wen Qian’s face, her tone laced with mock regret.

Wen Qian was taken aback. Just as she was hesitating to respond, the woman added with a sly smile, "My rival in love."

The atmosphere instantly became a little awkward.

The woman brushed past Wen Qian, an effortless allure in her every move.

Her beauty was flamboyant, like a walking work of art that compelled you to look twice.

It finally clicked for Wen Qian. ’This woman is Shen Junyi... and Yin Zhi’s fiancée is also named Shen.’

Her expression stiffened. As if sensing her change in mood, Yin Zhi pulled her into a tight hug. "I missed you."

Snapping back to the present, Wen Qian’s expression returned to normal.

She patted his back a couple of times, her tone gentle. "I have a gift for you."

She turned to go upstairs. The moment she pushed her bedroom door open, she suddenly remembered that the Little Fox was still curled up on her bed.

Wen Qian’s expression grew complicated. She looked back at Yin Zhi and forced a smile. "Why don’t you wait out here..."

"I can already smell him." The man’s brow twitched. He stepped around Wen Qian and decisively pushed the door wide open.

Just then, Qi Ke happened to walk out of the bathroom.

He was wrapped in a bath towel, his hair still dripping wet. The moment he saw Yin Zhi, shock flashed in his eyes.

"Foxy bastard..." Yin Zhi practically spat the words through clenched teeth.

His expression soured even more when he saw the two fox tails swaying behind the man. He knew he couldn’t count on Gu Mian; his base had been infiltrated in minutes.

"Um, I, I’ll go get your gift..." Swallowing hard, Wen Qian quickly trotted forward to block Yin Zhi’s view.
