My Cat Turned Beastman Won't Stop Kissing My Neck
Chapter 35: Refusing a Prison Visit"A Panda Beastman?" The man’s gaze grew even more sullen. He climbed onto the bed and leaned over her, bracing his arms on either side of her body. "How many more Beastmen are you going to have?!" he demanded resentfully.
Wen Qian was stunned by his question. It took her a moment to even register who was in front of her. ’Good grief, how did my perfectly fine little tiger turn into a panda?’
Yin Zhi seemed to realize something was wrong, too. He picked up his phone, switched to the front-facing camera, and after a single glance, slapped it face-down on the bed. Their eyes met for a moment before he clamped his hands over his face, his ears drooping back pitifully.
’Just great. My image is ruined. Now some other Beastman is definitely going to come and sweep Wen Qian off her feet!’
Seeing this, Wen Qian stifled a laugh. She firmly pulled his hands away from his face, her voice tinged with amusement. "Alright, spill it. What’s wrong now?"
"Qianqian said yesterday that you don’t get jealous..." Yin Zhi mumbled, looking down, avoiding her gaze. After a pause, he added, "You don’t care about me."
Wen Qian was taken aback, not expecting her offhand comment to provoke such a strong reaction from him. She reached out and squeezed his cheek, her voice gentle. "Who ever said that not getting jealous means you don’t care?"
He pointed a finger at the phone, saying nothing.
Wen Qian was at a loss for words, but she patiently explained anyway. She lightly traced the shell of his ear with a finger. "The stuff you read on your phone is just for reference. The reason I don’t get jealous is because I trust you."
Then, before Yin Zhi could react, she reached up and gave his other cheek a firm squeeze. "Besides, ’jealousy’ isn’t a word you should throw around lightly."
’To Wen Qian, Yin Zhi’s feelings were too direct, too intense. It made her feel like he didn’t even understand what this emotion was truly called.’
’Perhaps his affection for her was merely the possessiveness a pet feels for its owner.’
Yin Zhi seemed to only half-understand Wen Qian’s explanation, but he selectively committed one word to heart: "trust."
Kneeling on the bed, the man leaned forward and buried his head in Wen Qian’s arms, nuzzling her insistently with the crown of his head. ’This feeling, being trusted unconditionally... it’s amazing.’
’Looking at the fluffy head in her lap, the girl couldn’t help but smile. His true form might be a tiger, but his mannerisms are just like a kitten’s... He really is a feline, through and through.’
Thanks to her recent meticulous care, the Yellow-tailed Robin was now able to leave its box. Its wings were still a little clumsy, however, and it wobbled when it walked.
Wen Qian found it adorable. ’It reminds me of the penguins at the aquarium,’ she thought. ’Both little creatures are so fluffy.’
"I have to go out for a bit today. Can you take care of him while I’m gone?" Wen Qian said, ruffling Yin Zhi’s hair. ’Wow, his hair is so soft.’
She hadn’t gone to visit her adoptive parents in a long time, though it seemed her adoptive father wasn’t particularly eager to see her.
Speaking of her adoptive parents, Wen Qian always had a strange feeling. She remembered that even before they were arrested, their interactions had always been limited to perfunctory greetings. They even ate meals together far less often than most families.
It was like they were familiar strangers. Despite living under the same roof, it always felt like there was some kind of barrier between them.
Wen Qian knew perfectly well that they had adopted her entirely because of the "halo" she carried.
Because of that disaster, she had become a minor celebrity in City A. Many wealthy people believed that adopting her would bring prosperity to their businesses.
The rich are often superstitious, and her adoptive parents were no exception. Moreover, adopting Wen Qian had indeed brought them positive attention. Their "benevolent deed" shot to the top of the trending topics online, turning them into City A’s celebrity couple. Her adoptive father even got a promotion because of it.
It was just a shame that later...
The last time Wen Qian had visited them, it had ended on a sour note. The moment he saw her, her adoptive father had started shouting through the glass partition, calling her an ungrateful wretch and accusing her of being the one who reported them, the main culprit behind their imprisonment.
Wen Qian had been utterly bewildered by the tirade. She assumed he must have been bullied or provoked in prison, and before she left, she asked one of the officers to keep an eye on his recent behavior.
Afterward, an extra class was added to her schedule, and with her part-time job, the prison visit kept getting pushed back. All told, it had been over two months since they’d last seen each other.
"Don’t worry, Qianqian. I’ll take good care of him." Yin Zhi tilted his chin up, his eyes flicking to the Yellow-tailed Robin as he bared his canines.
The Yellow-tailed Robin jumped in fright. It threw its tiny wings over its head and scrambled clumsily into a corner.
Satisfied with his promise, Wen Qian nodded. Before heading out, she put the meal she’d prepared in the refrigerator, gave Yin Zhi a few more instructions, and then left.
The moment Wen Qian was gone, Yin Zhi’s eyes narrowed as he sized up the Yellow-tailed Robin in the corner. He pinched the bird by the scruff of its neck, lifting it up with two fingers. "I’m warning you," he said in a menacing tone, "you’d better not get any ideas about Qianqian..."
Dangling in the air, the Yellow-tailed Robin trembled uncontrollably. It was so terrified its claws were drawn up tight, not daring to move a muscle.
CLICK—
Suddenly, the door clicked open.
"I forgot my phone." The door swung open from the outside. Yin Zhi jumped, startled to see Wen Qian had returned. In a fluster, he placed the Yellow-tailed Robin in the palm of one hand and began to gently stroke its soft feathers with the other.
Yin Zhi cooed, "There, there, be good. I’ll just preen your feathers for you..."
Looking up, Wen Qian saw Yin Zhi’s doting expression and couldn’t help but give him a thumbs-up. ’Her little tiger never disappoints!’
At the same time, Yin Zhi flashed her a huge grin, his expression clearly saying, ’You can count on me.’
...
After taking the subway to the City A prison and completing the necessary paperwork, Wen Qian sat on a chair and waited quietly.
The waiting room was quiet, occupied only by her and two officers on duty.
She waited for a little while before hearing footsteps approaching. Looking up, she saw a tall, well-built officer looking at her with a hesitant expression.
"What is it?" she asked, a confused look on her face.
"I’m sorry, Miss Wen. He is refusing to see you." The man said, watching the surprise on her face. He paused for a moment before continuing, "The inmate asked me to tell you that you shouldn’t come here anymore."
Wen Qian froze. Her voice was tinged with urgency. "Are you sure? It was Wen Changyuan?"
"Yes." The reply was curt.
Hearing this, Wen Qian frowned. "Could you please ask him why?"
"I’m sorry... Actually, he said the same thing last time you left." The officer sighed.
’Miss Wen came to visit her adoptive parents regularly—more often than many inmates’ biological children did. He’d seen her four or five times himself. Logically, a man serving a life sentence shouldn’t be refusing family visits...’
Lowering her gaze slightly, Wen Qian murmured, "I see. Thank you for your trouble."
’Even though she and her adoptive parents weren’t close, they had lived together for so many years. There was still a bond there, of course.’
