My Cat Turned Beastman Won't Stop Kissing My Neck
Chapter 39: Always ThereThe prolonged confinement left Wen Qian depressed. What truly broke her was that her adoptive parents, trying to keep her from speaking out, had cut off all communication devices in her room. Even the windows were only opened at set times.
Over the next two months, Wen Qian’s mental state deteriorated. It wasn’t just the prolonged isolation; it was the crushing weight of being unable to fulfill the promise she had made in the dungeons.
When she closed her eyes, all she could see were the imprisoned Beastmen. Anxiety and self-blame began to consume her. ’I need to talk to someone,’ she thought, only to remember she had already driven away the gentle Little Black Snake.
The once-gentle girl grew withdrawn and irritable. She started crying day and night, would fly into a rage and smash the bowls the maid had just brought in, and tried every method she could think of to provoke her adoptive parents.
Eventually, she even contemplated suicide.
Her guilt grew with each passing day. Most of the Beastmen locked away were there only because they had gotten close to her, giving her adoptive parents the opportunity to capture them.
Their trust and reliance on her had become the very blade used against them.
Then, one bright and pleasant afternoon, Wen Qian finally found her chance. She watched her adoptive parents drive away from the villa, then used the only chair in her bedroom to smash the window.
As she gazed at the splendid view outside, her eyes were completely devoid of emotion.
The maid was already used to Wen Qian smashing things. She glanced at her watch, planning to come back in half an hour to clean up the mess the young miss had made.
Little did she know, everything Wen Qian had done before was just a prelude to this moment.
Wen Qian tied bedsheets and clothes into a makeshift rope, secured it to the bed, and carefully climbed down from the second floor through the shattered window.
The moment her feet touched the ground, Wen Qian felt a sense of disbelief. Fear was mixed with a pang of sadness.
She suddenly thought of the villa’s back garden. ’I wonder if the flowers have withered after a month, or if they’ve grown even more lush than before,’ she mused.
Wen Qian didn’t dare to dwell on it, nor did she dare to look back. She fled as quickly as she could, running down the narrow path.
She ran through a long, dense forest. After what felt like an eternity, she finally reached a long road and encountered two strangers on bicycles.
Wen Qian stopped them and borrowed their phone.
She didn’t call the police. Instead, she dialed the municipal government’s tip line and the animal protection society. Knowing the policies were inadequate, she also reached out to a Beastman rescue organization.
She contacted everyone she thought could help, deliberately avoiding the sensitive topic of Beastmen. Instead, she focused her reports on other potential crimes her adoptive parents might have committed.
Once she had arranged everything, she turned around and headed back toward the Wen Family’s villa.
Wen Qian knew that if she went missing now, the Beastmen would likely be moved somewhere else. What happened next would be completely out of her control.
It wasn’t long before the maid discovered Wen Qian was gone. She contacted Wen Qian’s adoptive parents, who rushed back only to find their "missing" daughter squatting at an intersection about five hundred meters from the villa.
Her adoptive mother, who still held some affection for Wen Qian, rushed out of the car to check on her. Finding nothing more than a few crisscrossing scratches on her arm, she took Wen Qian back to the villa.
But she couldn’t shake the feeling that something had changed. The daughter who always used to smile at her now looked at her with nothing but coldness and detachment. When they passed the security camera at the entrance, Wen Qian even shot her a look of pure disgust.
The woman tried to swallow her pride and coax her, but Wen Qian deliberately changed the subject, asking if she would be allowed downstairs for dinner.
Her adoptive mother’s smile froze. In the end, she had the maid take Wen Qian back to her room.
Wen Qian’s adoptive parents were arrested for corruption and bribery, but their real crimes went far beyond that.
As they were being taken away, Wen Qian was finally let out of her room. Her first instinct was to run to the basement to find the imprisoned Beastmen. But she found the door, once sealed shut, was now wide open.
Then, men and women in uniforms led the Beastmen out one by one, guiding them into another vehicle.
After that, Wen Qian moved out of the Wen Family’s villa and returned to the government-provided housing where she had lived before.
Every day, she had to walk through a long alley and climb a high flight of stairs to find her apartment among the tightly packed buildings.
Though her living conditions were a far cry from what they used to be, Wen Qian was happy. She had succeeded in rescuing the Beastmen and had atoned for her past mistakes.
She was happy for a while. Until that day...
Wen Qian was passing an accessory shop when, on a whim, she stepped inside. In a mirror, she caught sight of two furtive figures.
She was being followed. Even if she managed to lose them one day, a new set of people would be trailing her the next.
These people never did anything to her, but their presence alone was enough to fill her with terror.
This went on for a long time, until a new commotion involving Beastmen erupted in City A. Many of the compassionate people who had provided shelter and aid to Beastmen had vanished without a trace.
Panic gripped the city. And the people following Wen Qian grew bolder. They no longer bothered to hide, seemingly indifferent to whether she noticed them.
Until one day, a rabbit Beastman with a red heart marking on her ear found Wen Qian. She grabbed her hand, and together they lost the men who were tailing her.
It was only then that Wen Qian realized the little rabbit she had adopted could transform into such a beautiful girl.
She wore her hair in two white braids, with her fluffy white rabbit ears perched neatly on her head. Her almond-shaped eyes were clear and bright.
Wen Qian remembered how the rabbit used to nestle, soft and warm, in her arms, and her eyes filled with joy.
They talked for a long time about recent events. It was then that Wen Qian learned the truth: the Beastmen taken from the Wen Family’s villa hadn’t been rescued at all. They had simply been moved to another location.
And their supposed rescuers had ulterior motives all along.
The little rabbit also revealed that the authorities had been watching Wen Qian ever since the Wen couple’s arrest. They suspected she was a Beastman herself, or a human colluding with them.
These agents had been following Wen Qian ever since the Wen Family’s villa was seized, just waiting for her to slip up.
But the little rabbit told her not to worry. She swore she would protect Wen Qian, just as Wen Qian had protected her.
To this day, Wen Qian still remembered the little rabbit’s words.
She walked Wen Qian to the stairs and told her in the gentlest voice, "A rabbit’s fur is like a dandelion puff. So if I’m not here one day, when spring comes, the wind will carry me back into your arms."
"So, Qianqian, your rabbit will always be with you."
She smiled gently at Wen Qian. But as Wen Qian stared, lost in thought, the rabbit girl suddenly shoved her hard.
As she tumbled backward down the stairs, Wen Qian saw a bullet skim past the top of her own head and pierce straight through the girl’s forehead.
