He grew angrier the more he thought about it.

Yin Zhi turned his head to quietly gaze at the gentle profile of the girl’s face. His eyes were dark, swirling with emotions that were hard to dispel.

After a long while, he leaned back, propping himself up with his hands behind him... The girl, whose muscles had long since relaxed, instantly fell backward toward his chest.

However, this time, she was not met with the warm embrace she had expected.

Wen Qian fell onto the bed. The handsome young man behind her had, at some unknown point, transformed into a cat.

She was completely dumbfounded.

Turning her head to look at the soft little furball at the foot of the bed, she couldn’t speak for a long time.

"A beastman’s heart really is as elusive as a needle at the bottom of the ocean," she thought. "I didn’t even say anything, and he won’t even catch me anymore?"

"You... are unbelievable," Wen Qian glared at Yin Zhi, squeezing the words out through gritted teeth.

The girl’s exquisite features reflected in his amber eyes. Feeling guilty, Yin Zhi turned his head away and then scrambled under the covers on all fours.

He pulled the quilt over his head, pretending to sleep.

The early autumn sun carried a heart-tugging warmth, its red and green leaves reflecting off each other like a vibrant painting.

When Wen Qian woke up, the spot beside her was already empty. Groggy, she yawned and habitually reached into the covers to feel around.

Unlike usual, the bed was completely empty. She lazily lifted her eyes, her gaze sweeping across every corner of the bedroom, yet she still found nothing.

Wen Qian instantly sobered up. She glanced at her watch, then reached over to grab her clothes from the chair.

Yin Zhi was a lazy little cat who usually woke up much later than her. She had no idea what had gotten into him today, but he had actually left the bedroom before her.

After changing her clothes, Wen Qian walked out of the room. She subconsciously looked around for Yin Zhi’s silhouette.

"Good morning, Qianqian!" Li Jiu was sitting alone on the living room sofa, taking tiny bites out of a small piece of apple in his hand.

"Where is Yin Zhi?" Wen Qian asked him.

Li Jiu instinctively looked toward the kitchen, his eyes sparkling.

Just as he was about to answer, the person inside seemed to hear the commotion and directly opened the door.

Li Jiu shrank his shoulders and instantly fell silent. He then turned his head away and focused entirely on eating his apple.

Following the sound, Wen Qian looked over and saw the young man wearing a pink apron. He was looking at her quietly with his head slightly bowed, appearing incredibly wronged.

"Why are you up so early?" Remembering his baffling behavior from last night, Wen Qian raised an eyebrow.

Facing the girl’s elegant face, the young man’s eyes flickered. For a moment, he didn’t know if he should speak.

He stood there stiffly until Wen Qian turned around, finally calling out to her abruptly, "Qianqian."

Her footsteps paused. In the next second, the warmth of the young man’s chest enveloped Wen Qian’s back through her thin shirt. Just like usual, he rested his chin on her shoulder.

His actions were as intimate as before, but his voice sounded muffled. "Qianqian, don’t be mad."

He was expressing his apology and worry in his own way. Yin Zhi had spent the entire night overthinking before finally managing to comfort himself. He realized that Wen Qian simply liked a few more beastmen, not that she was uninterested in him. To think he had actually thrown a tantrum over this...

In the Beast World, male beastmen inherently needed to rely on their strength to attract females and fight for their affection, while female beastmen mostly just had to take their pick.

Multiple male beastmen fighting over one female was very common in the Beast World. Furthermore, with the sharp decline in the female beastman population in recent years, it was a frequent occurrence for one female to be paired with multiple males. Worse yet, some would even mock a female’s male partner behind his back, claiming he was incompetent, which was why other beastmen managed to poach his mate.

Yin Zhi held a special status in the Beast World, so he naturally never thought he would one day face the risk of having his mate poached. Because of this, he couldn’t accept it at first.

Even though Wen Qian had never promised him anything, he had treated her as his mate right from the beginning, leaving his heart aching with grievance. Although he was the Young Master, he had been instilled with the ideals of "male virtue" since childhood. If he didn’t truly like her, he wouldn’t have shamelessly lingered in her bed.

Wen Qian was completely baffled by the man’s sudden show of vulnerability. Wasn’t he the one who was angrier yesterday?

"I’m not mad," Wen Qian answered truthfully after a moment of thought. She simply treated it as a child throwing a tantrum; it certainly wasn’t worth getting angry over.

As he gently nuzzled her earlobe with his reddened nose, the expression on the man’s face softened a bit.

The warmth on her back made Wen Qian narrow her eyes comfortably. Facing Yin Zhi right now, she was actually a little touched. He placed her emotions above his own. Even though he was upset himself, he still chose to apologize to her first.

But at the end of the day, why was he even upset?

Wen Qian wasn’t entirely clueless about the reason, but the answer seemed rather absurd to her.

Could he really be...

Turning around to look up at him, Wen Qian’s expression showed hesitation. Just as she was thinking about how to bring it up, her attention was caught by the object in his hand. She only just noticed that he was actually gripping a spatula covered in batter.

No wonder he hadn’t hugged her properly earlier—he was holding this thing.

"Are you cooking?" Wen Qian asked tentatively.

He nodded hesitantly. Then, as if realizing something, his expression drastically changed.

He turned and sprinted toward the kitchen. The moment the door opened, a choking, burnt smell assaulted their senses. Both Wen Qian and Yin Zhi froze simultaneously; neither of them had expected this scene. Even Li Jiu, who was sitting on the sofa, coughed twice from the smoke.

Although the induction cooker was smart enough to shut itself off when necessary, the half-fried pancake in the pan couldn’t escape its doomed fate.

Looking at the burnt pancake with heartache, Yin Zhi felt extremely guilty. He had originally wanted to wake up early to prepare breakfast for Wen Qian, but he hadn’t expected to mess it up like this.

He had failed to make breakfast and even burnt the pan.

"It’s over, it’s over," he thought. "Will Qianqian think I’m completely useless now?"

Thinking of the advice he had searched for on his phone earlier, the young man’s heart sank to rock bottom. The internet said that to win a woman’s heart, one must first win her stomach. But now he had a problem—he had burnt the pancake.

Seeing the young man’s wronged expression, Wen Qian rubbed her temples, momentarily forgetting what she had wanted to ask. She had no choice but to push Yin Zhi out of the kitchen so she could prepare breakfast herself.

However, just seconds after the kitchen door closed, it was opened again from the outside. Yin Zhi poked his head in. "Qianqian, let me clean it up."

Wen Qian stayed silent for a moment. "Do you know how?"

Yin Zhi was just about to say he could learn, but feeling that phrase sounded too weak, he nodded vigorously instead. "I do."

Seeing his eagerness to prove himself, Wen Qian couldn’t help but laugh. Then, as if she had made a decision, she took off her oven mitts, made a welcoming gesture, and left the kitchen alone.

Li Jiu, who was sitting on the sofa, seemed to have his gaze glued to Wen Qian. It wasn’t until she walked over that he timidly tugged at the hem of her shirt.

"What’s wrong?" Wen Qian looked down.

Hesitation flashed in Li Jiu’s eyes, but he eventually pointed at the small apple slices on his plate. "Qianqian, the Young Master prepared all of these."
