At that moment, the man’s appearance grew sharp in her memory. Ten years ago, he had been just like this, wreathed in the aura of death.

The iron chains CLANKED. The man met Wen Qian’s gaze, and in that instant, his pupils turned blood-red—the only vivid splash of color in the dim light.

"Why do you want to kill me?" Wen Qian asked, frowning as she held back the men trying to shield her.

Her eyes were serene. Even sharing a room with such a savage beast, she showed no hint of fear.

She had witnessed scenes far more terrifying than this when she was just over ten years old. Now, tempered by another decade, the man before her... certainly couldn’t scare her.

Besides, she had two Beastmen she trusted implicitly standing right beside her.

She didn’t know how to describe the feeling. It was an inexplicable sense of peace, so profound that she would willingly place her life in their hands.

The man’s sharp gaze fell upon Wen Qian like a knife, as if trying to see right through her.

’It was a pair of eyes just like these—as clear as jade water—that bewitched me, making me hold out hope for her.’

’But what happened next...’

The glint in his eyes grew sharper. The man lowered his head, his messy hair casting a shadow over his brow.

"Don’t you know?" The corners of the man’s lips tilted up, but his voice was chilling.

Wen Qian said nothing, but it was Yin Zhi who lost his patience first. Facing the man who had hurt Wen Qian, he couldn’t muster any pleasantries. "Why are you spouting so much bullshit?"

"Heh..." The man’s lips twitched again. After a moment, he lifted his head, a flash of arrogance in his eyes. "And what are you supposed to be?"

The room fell silent.

Wen Qian cautiously glanced at Yin Zhi’s expression.

Apparently, no one had ever spoken to him like that before. Yin Zhi froze for a second, then, once it registered, he lunged at Chi Heng. "I’m your daddy!"

’As long as Qianqian doesn’t beat me to death for this, I’m going to tear this guy to shreds!’

"Yin Zhi!!" Wen Qian’s expression changed in a flash. She wrapped her arms firmly around his waist, pulling him back. Her voice was filled with urgency. "Ca-calm down..."

Wen Qian wasn’t as strong as Yin Zhi, but thankfully, she had Gu Mian there to help. Together, they managed to drag Yin Zhi back.

"Didn’t you ask for me? And now you have nothing to say..." After calming Yin Zhi down, she turned back to Chi Heng. Believing she owed him nothing, Wen Qian’s tone grew impatient. "Is it because you’re bitter that you failed to kill me?"

She was deliberately trying to provoke him.

"And how do you think you’re able to stand here?" the man shot back, raising his head to reveal the chill in his gaze.

"What’s it to you?" Wen Qian couldn’t read the stubbornness buried deep within him, so she decided she couldn’t be bothered. If he wouldn’t talk, even prying his mouth open might not yield the truth.

Chi Heng: "You..."

"Fine, don’t say it." Wen Qian couldn’t be bothered to play games with him any longer. This Chi Heng was just some ungrateful lunatic.

He was already locked up in here, yet he was still trying to provoke her. If she hadn’t regained her memory by a strange twist of fate after he ran into her, Wen Qian wouldn’t have agreed to see him at all.

’Does he really think I’m some kind of pushover he can treat however he wants?!’

Yin Zhi, who had been furious just moments before, visibly relaxed at Wen Qian’s words. His gaze on her softened, growing more tender.

’Is the little female standing up for me?’

’Aww, she loves me so much. I must be her favorite Beastman.’

As if sensing something, Gu Mian glanced at Yin Zhi, then turned away, completely exasperated.

"Wen Qian!" Seeing the girl was actually about to leave, the man’s expression changed and he lunged forward. But he had barely taken a step before the chains restraining him jerked taut, and his own momentum sent him crashing to the floor.

Almost simultaneously, the man arched his neck in agony and let out a guttural roar. His red irises bled outward, consuming the whites of his eyes, and in that same instant, his body began to change...

Under the dim, yellow light, fangs sprouted from his mouth. He curled up in agony as his body swelled, shattering the chains and shredding his shirt.

Then, fur began to sprout frantically all over his body. His blood-red eyes remained fixed on the slender female as he transformed, becoming a Werewolf through and through...

It wasn’t just Wen Qian; even Gu Mian and Yin Zhi, standing to the side, couldn’t help but frown.

Beastmen have three forms: their human form, their beastman form, and their full beast form.

The human form is indistinguishable from that of a human. The beastman form has beast-like ears and a tail. The full beast form is what people on Blue Star would simply call an animal.

But they had never seen anything like Chi Heng’s transformation...

Perhaps it was the overwhelming hostility radiating from him, but Wen Qian took an involuntary step back. She opened her mouth, but no sound came out.

She wasn’t sure if the creature before her was still lucid or if, like in the storybooks, it had completely lost its reason.

Then he spoke, his deep, hoarse voice filling the entire room. "You promised you would get us out."

Wen Qian’s heart sank. She watched the creature struggle to its feet, ignoring the manacles that had cut deep into the flesh of his wrists. A ferocious light in his eyes, he roared at her like a madman, "But you sold us out! Just like your parents, you’re a mutt—Ugh!"

Before the curse was even fully formed, Gu Mian kicked him to the ground. Gu Mian’s eyes were cold as he moved to stand in front of Wen Qian, the black scales on his jaw shimmering faintly.

"You can’t blame her for this." He too had been forced through similar experiments, though his luck had been far better than Chi Heng’s. Aside from the scales that sometimes appeared on his jaw when he was furious, he had no other abnormalities.

"If it wasn’t for her, how would we have been sold to the lab?" He had heard it with his own ears: those men had said a little girl sold them there.

By now, Wen Qian had recovered from her shock. She frowned at the Werewolf’s snarling face, her lips pressed into a thin line, her thoughts unreadable.

Just as the Werewolf seemed about to roar at her again, she asked coolly, "Who told you that?"

"The people who took us away." The Werewolf sneered, his expression full of contempt. As if afraid she would deny it, he added in a cold voice, "Their exact words were, ’What a bunch of morons, getting sold out by a little girl.’"

For the first time in a long time, Wen Qian felt the urge to slap someone across the face. She clenched her fists, struggling for patience. "Are you sure the ’morons’ they were talking about weren’t the people who locked you in that basement?"

She admitted they had been taken away because of her, but that had never been her intention. It certainly had nothing to do with the word "sold."

Inconspicuously nudging aside the man next to Wen Qian, Yin Zhi rested his chin on her shoulder. Seemingly pleased at having been defended, his eyes held a playful glint and his voice was lazy. "Qianqian would never do something like that."

’If she were that kind of person, she would’ve sold me off ages ago. Would she have waited until now?’

’Aren’t the Wolf Clan supposed to be smart? When the Old Wolf King sired this guy, did he forget to give him a brain?’
