My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable
Chapter 108: Does It Feel as Good as When I Serve You?Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Does It Feel as Good as When I Serve You?
They hadn’t even reached the airport when they got a call from Northolme.
"You two shouldn’t come back for now. Find a place to hide."
"Grandpa, did something happen?"
"This is all your doing! Look what you’ve done! Go online and see for yourself. You’ve utterly disgraced the Grayson Family."
Mandy Grayson froze. Mitchell Grayson quickly opened his phone.
When they saw the video online, they both felt their vision go dark.
The Forrester Family was truly swift and decisive. They had barely left before the video was already circulating back in Northolme.
Their worst fears had come true.
...
"You’re here."
Seeing them enter, Tristan Forrester personally poured them some tea.
"I appreciate you taking the trouble, Miss Grayson."
Vesper Grayson smiled faintly. "It’s no trouble. Is the Patriarch resting?"
"Yes, Grandpa has a habit of taking an afternoon nap, but he knew you were coming, so he’s waiting for you in his bedroom."
"I’ll go see the Patriarch."
Tristan Forrester immediately had the butler lead the way.
Seeing her get up, Jared Hawthorne started to rise as well.
"Jared, you don’t know anything about medicine. Why don’t you sit and chat with me for a bit?"
Jared Hawthorne raised an eyebrow, his gaze falling on Vesper Grayson.
"Will you be okay?"
"Mhm, you can chat with Mr. Forrester. I’ll be fine on my own."
’It’s not like he could help if he came along anyway.’
Jared Hawthorne nodded, sat back down on the sofa, took a sip of tea, and watched her go upstairs.
"Stop staring. She’s already out of sight," Tristan Forrester teased.
He calmly retracted his gaze, a hint of inquiry in his eyes.
"Why isn’t your wife here?"
’For something as important as the Patriarch’s treatment, you’d think the granddaughter-in-law would at least make an appearance.’
Tristan Forrester replied, "She’s traveling abroad recently. She’s not in Portclyde."
Jared Hawthorne narrowed his eyes, sensing there was more to the story. He set down his teacup and asked nonchalantly.
"Was it a business alliance, or did Grandpa Forrester force you to marry her?"
"What’s the difference?"
"Does Justine know?"
"Mhm."
"And she didn’t throw a fit?"
"We both simply made the choice that was best for each of us."
’There was a hidden meaning in his words.’
’Could there be another side to the story?’
"It just feels like a bit of a shame," Jared Hawthorne sighed lightly, crossing his legs and leaning back into the sofa, his posture elegant and relaxed.
’Back when they were in school, everyone called them the golden couple, a match made in heaven.’
’He’d thought that even if they broke up and got back together, they would end up as one of those bickering but loving couples.’
’Life is unpredictable.’
Tristan Forrester lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. "What about you? When are you planning to get married?"
"No rush. We’ll get engaged first when we go back this time." Jared Hawthorne’s lips curved slightly. "Every step is essential."
"It seems you’re really into Miss Grayson," Tristan Forrester joked. "Did she save your life or something?"
"You never know."
"Once you set a date, I’ll come join the celebration."
"No problem."
「Upstairs, in the bedroom.」
Vesper Grayson focused intently on administering the acupuncture for the Patriarch. Half an hour later, she slowly removed the needles.
"Patriarch Forrester, do you feel anything at all today?"
"It seems like... I feel something, but then again, maybe not..."
’So is that a yes or a no?’
"Don’t rush. There are still five days. I will come over every day to administer the acupuncture. Please remember to take your medicine on time every day. I’ll review and adjust your prescription after a week."
She carefully put away the Nine Dragon Needle.
"Yes, yes, of course. Thank you for your hard work." The Patriarch liked her calm and gentle disposition and became even more affable. "Jared calls me Grandpa Forrester. You should call me Grandpa Forrester, too."
"Grandpa Forrester."
"Good child. I have a granddaughter-in-law who just graduated from medical school last year. She’ll be back in a couple of days. I’ll introduce you two then."
’Graduated last year?’
’In that case, she must be younger than me.’
’Mr. Forrester is three years older than Elias, and now he’s found a young trophy wife. Now *that’s* a classic case of robbing the cradle.’
’As expected, men all like them young.’
Vesper Grayson nodded. "Please get some rest."
On the way back to the hotel, Vesper Grayson brought up what the Patriarch had said earlier.
"I heard from Grandpa Forrester that Mr. Forrester found himself a young trophy wife. Do all you men like younger women?"
"..."
’She was twenty-three. Not old, by any means, but compared to an eighteen or nineteen-year-old fresh college graduate, she couldn’t exactly be called young.’
"Did I hit a nerve?"
"I don’t know about other men, but I don’t care about age. It’s mainly about the connection."
"Hmph. But you’re seven years older than me."
"...Are you saying I’m old?"
"I’m just stating a fact."
Jared Hawthorne grasped her hand, his voice low. "Being older has its advantages. For example, we know how to dote on someone, how to take care of them. What do those greenhorns know?"
"That’s just twisted logic. Some young people are very mature."
"So you’re having regrets? You want to use me and then abandon me for someone younger?" His expression darkened, and his grip on her hand tightened.
"Of course not! I was just making a point. Why are you getting so worked up?!"
"Even if you regret it, it’s too late. You’re my woman now, and I won’t give you up to any other man. Besides, could one of those young guys have my skills? Could they please you and make you feel this good?"
’He had searched for her, waited for her, for so many years. How could he possibly let go so easily?’
’Unless she was the one who didn’t want him... even then, he wouldn’t give up.’
Vesper’s face flushed. ’I have no idea what this damn man is talking about!’
For the next few days, Jared Hawthorne took her all over Portclyde.
They went to the top of Victoria Peak to look out over the entire city, rode the Star Ferry across the harbor, strolled down the Starlight Promenade, walked the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator, visited an exhibition at the West Kowloon Cultural District, explored the Temple Street Night Market, and checked out The Behemoth Building and Westgate Promenade.
Like countless other couples deeply in love, they wandered through every street and alley, soaking in the vibrant, everyday life of the city.
On their sixth day in Portclyde, she and Jared Hawthorne were walking hand-in-hand down the street when a photographer blocked their path.
"Hello, you handsome couple! I’m a street style photographer. I think you both have amazing presence, and I’d love to take a few sets of photos of you. Would that be okay?"
’A man like Jared Hawthorne, who dislikes being in the public eye, would never agree to be photographed,’ Vesper thought. She was just about to refuse when she heard him agree first.
"Sure. Just make us look good."
"Oh, right, there’s one small thing I wanted to ask you both. I might upload these photos to my social media account later to share as part of my portfolio. I was wondering if you’d be okay with that?"
"That’s fine."
Vesper looked up in surprise, not expecting he would even agree to that.
They followed the photographer’s directions, adjusting their poses for the photos.
"You two are ridiculously good-looking! Are you a couple or just friends?"
Jared Hawthorne pulled Vesper into his arms, his thin lips curving into a roguish grin.
"What do you think?"
"You two are just too perfect together. If it’s alright, I’d like to take a set of more intimate photos. Would that be okay?"
"Go ahead."
"..."
Vesper leaned close to his ear. "Since when is President Hawthorne so agreeable?"
"Can’t be helped. I’m just too kind-hearted to refuse someone’s good intentions. Besides, Miss Grayson and I haven’t had any photos taken together yet. We can just treat this as a practice run for our wedding photos."
"...You’re really thinking far ahead. Who said I’d marry you?!"
Jared Hawthorne grabbed her by the waist, pinning her against the railing. "If you don’t want to marry me, then who do you want to marry? Luke Lockwood?"
’...’ ’Why did he have to bring up that buzzkill of a name out of nowhere?’
"Yes, just like that! That pose has so much sexual tension!"
The photographer raised his camera and started snapping away, not forgetting to give directions.
"Ma’am, could you please lift your head and look deeply at your boyfriend? Let your eyes smolder..."
"..."
Jared Hawthorne lowered his gaze, his eyes deep and smiling. "Miss Grayson, try to cooperate."
