My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable

Chapter 132: Who’s Really Harming Who?

Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Who’s Really Harming Who?

In a flash, a memory surfaced in Vesper Grayson’s mind.

She hesitated before speaking. "I came up to the second floor for some air, and Miss Garland found me for a drink. I drank the wine she handed me, and after that, something felt... off. But maybe it was just a coincidence."

’After all, I have no evidence.’

’Besides, I have no conflict with Sheryl Garland. Even if she does like Jared Hawthorne, a young woman like her shouldn’t be capable of such a vicious, underhanded scheme.’

"Where’s the glass?"

"I just left it on the balcony railing."

Jared Hawthorne called out the door, "Leon Quillan, you heard her. Go find it."

"Yes."

After a moment, Leon Quillan returned.

"President Hawthorne, I couldn’t find the glass. A waiter must have cleared it away."

Without the glass, they couldn’t test if the drink had been drugged.

Jared Hawthorne’s expression darkened as he carried her to the security room.

After reviewing the surveillance footage, they found no evidence of Sheryl Garland drugging the drink. They did, however, capture a clip of Mandy Grayson acting furtively, making a deal with a man at the hotel entrance.

"Find this man and bring him to me."

Leon Quillan nodded and turned to leave.

...

The sound of steady footsteps approached.

All eyes turned to see Jared Hawthorne approaching with a steady gait, carrying Vesper Grayson in his arms.

She was nestled in his arms, her makeup exquisite, her clothes tidy, and her hair impeccable. Nothing seemed amiss.

Her flushed cheeks only added to her delicate beauty.

"Vesper, are you all right?"

Sharon Chandler walked over and asked with concern.

"Thank you for your concern, Chandler. I’m fine, just a little dizzy. I rested for a bit." She patted Jared Hawthorne’s arm, signaling for him to put her down.

Jared Hawthorne glanced down at her. "Are you sure?"

"Mm."

’I was on an IV drip just now, so my strength is slowly returning. Standing won’t be a problem.’

Jared Hawthorne set her down on her feet.

Casey Nash stepped forward and said softly, "Miss Grayson, where have you been? Elias couldn’t find you earlier; he was worried sick."

"I’m fine." Vesper Grayson smiled at her.

"As long as you’re okay." Casey Nash breathed a sigh of relief. ’If something had really happened to Vesper Grayson, Sheryl would have been unable to escape the blame. No matter how good Elias and Noah’s relationship is, the Hawthorne Family would have seen this through to the end.’

Sheryl Garland looked at the still exquisite and beautiful woman, her fingertips digging into her palm.

’What in the world is going on?’

’I’m certain Vesper Grayson drank the wine and went into the room. So why did it end up being Mandy Grayson, while Vesper is completely unscathed!’

’This is too bizarre.’

’Don’t tell me she found out ahead of time, went into the room, and then snuck back out?’

’No, that’s impossible. After drinking that drug, she would’ve been powerless, completely unable to walk out of the room on her own.’

’And the man I had arranged followed her in right after. There was such a short window of time; she had absolutely no opportunity to leave that room.’

Bernard Hawthorne spoke with a serious expression, "Vesper, tell us, what on earth happened here?"

Vesper Grayson raised her eyes to look at Sheryl Garland. When their gazes met, Sheryl forced a strained, stiff smile.

"I’m not sure what happened either. I was supposed to be resting in a guest room on the second floor, but when I woke up, I was already in a room on the third floor."

Her gaze swept over them impassively, her eyes filled with confusion.

"Did something happen in this room? Why are you all standing here?"

She only knew she had been drugged and set up. As for the specifics of what had happened, she was completely in the dark. Jared Hawthorne hadn’t told her anything yet.

Sharon Chandler frowned and looked at Jared Hawthorne, "You didn’t tell her?"

"I haven’t had the chance," Jared Hawthorne said, his gaze lowered, and proceeded to recount the night’s events.

Vesper Grayson froze.

’So the plan was to ruin my reputation.’

’If they had succeeded, the rumor spreading tonight would have been that the eldest daughter of the Grayson Family was shamelessly sleeping with some strange man at her own engagement party.’

’Not only would my reputation be destroyed, but my name would be mud in all of Northolme.’

A chill shot up her spine.

’Luke Lockwood had unwittingly done me a huge favor tonight.’

She took a step towards the room, but Jared Hawthorne grabbed her arm.

"What are you doing?"

"I want to have a private word with Miss Grayson."

"I’ll go with you."

Vesper Grayson nodded.

Seeing them about to enter, Sheryl Garland took a step to follow, but Noah Nash grabbed her arm forcefully and warned in a low voice,

"Haven’t you made yourself look suspicious enough already?"

Sheryl Garland bit her lip and argued defensively, "What are you talking about? Cousin, how can you still suspect me..."

"I’m taking you home," Noah Nash said, pulling her arm. He took two steps forward. "Mr. Hawthorne, Miss Chandler, since Miss Grayson has been found, I’ll be leaving with Sheryl and my aunt now."

Sharon Chandler gave a faint nod.

"President Nash, you and your aunt may leave, but Miss Garland cannot!" Leon Quillan blocked their path, his expression unreadable as he delivered the reminder.

Noah Nash narrowed his eyes. "Is this Elias’s idea?"

"President Hawthorne has given the order," Leon replied. "Until this matter is investigated, no one suspicious is permitted to leave. Miss Garland is currently a person of great interest, so she cannot go."

Sheryl Garland panicked and subconsciously hid in Casey Nash’s arms.

Casey Nash held her, her heart sinking.

Noah Nash knew Jared Hawthorne’s temperament. The man meant what he said. Since the order had been given, no one would be taking Sheryl Garland anywhere until the investigation was over.

’If they find out Sheryl was involved... ’

At that thought, his expression darkened, and he pulled her back to the window.

"If you confess honestly now, I can still find a way to plead for you. If they trace this back to you later, even I won’t be able to protect you."

"Cousin... I really didn’t do anything, it has nothing to do with me," she sobbed, wiping her tears, "Why don’t you believe me!"

「Inside the room.」

Mandy Grayson had already dressed, but her face was deathly pale and her hair was a mess. She looked like a flower battered and broken by a violent storm.

The man in the corner was weaselly-looking, with a face full of messy, greasy stubble. His greasy hair was plastered to his scalp, his clothes were a wrinkled mess, and he gave off a thuggish, slovenly, and utterly sleazy vibe.

’If it hadn’t been for Luke Lockwood, I would have been the one who was ruined.’

Vesper Grayson’s gaze was ice-cold. "Miss Grayson," she said, "we meet again."

"Vesper Grayson!" Mandy Grayson shrieked, overcome with emotion. "Why wasn’t it you?! What have I ever done to you that you’d want to harm me like this?"

"I harmed you?" Vesper Grayson looked baffled, nearly laughing in disbelief at the accusation. "Get your facts straight. Who was trying to harm whom?"

"It was you! This is all your fault!" Mandy Grayson screamed, her eyes bloodshot and her voice a raw, broken rasp. "If it weren’t for you, would my reputation be in tatters? Would I have lost all face? I just took a little credit for what you did, and you held a grudge, setting this trap to get revenge! What’s happened to me is all because of you!"

’Very few people knew I was the one who treated Miss Kensington. How did she find out?’

’That day when Jared and I went to the Kensington estate, Noah Nash and Sheila Kensington were there too.’

Vesper Grayson’s gaze grew sharper. "Who told you I was the one who treated Miss Kensington?"
