My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable

Chapter 36: Found Vesper’s Location?

Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Found Vesper’s Location?

Jared Hawthorne reached out to pull the woman into his embrace, but his arms closed on empty air.

His sharp, narrow eyes snapped open. The woman was long gone from his side.

He habitually picked up his phone and glanced at it.

On the screen was a message from Vesper Grayson, sent half an hour ago.

The moment he read it, he let out a laugh of pure exasperation.

’No wonder Vesper Grayson had been so forward and passionate last night. So, she wanted to repay her debt and be done with me.’

’This woman changed her tune faster than flipping through a book. She was trying to use me and then dump me, just like that.’

His phone suddenly rang. It was a call from the old family estate.

"Grandpa?"

"Are you back?"

"Just got back. What’s up?"

"I’ve arranged for you to meet that girl from the Grayson family tomorrow night."

The man he’d handpicked, and they hadn’t even had a proper meeting. Was that any way to do things?

Jared Hawthorne understood instantly.

’So that’s why she was in such a hurry to cut ties with him. She was on her way to an arranged meeting.’

’He wondered what kind of priceless expression she would have when she found out he was the one she was supposed to meet.’

"Got it."

He toyed with his phone, his eyes darkening as he recalled her heat and softness from the night before.

Nine o’clock, in the Grayson Corporation conference room.

The senior executives took their seats one by one. The atmosphere was heavy.

Milton Grayson surveyed the room, his tone mild but carrying an unquestionable authority.

"Starting today, Vesper will serve as Vice President. Her words will represent my own. I expect everyone to cooperate with her fully."

The room immediately erupted in an uproar.

Gwen Grayson’s brow furrowed, and she spoke out in dissatisfaction, "Dad, have you forgotten our previous bet? My sister still hasn’t secured the exclusive agency rights for Vaudin."

"President Grayson, Manager Grayson has a point. Please, reconsider."

Several shareholders, led by Arnold Hutton, chimed in with sharp-toned agreement.

"Miss Grayson has no practical experience. I’m afraid she’s not up to such a great responsibility."

"Everything should be based on ability, not nepotism. You can’t just grant special privileges because she’s your daughter."

Milton Grayson said nothing, simply watching the crowd argue.

Vesper Grayson sat upright to the side, her expression serene, completely unaffected.

Only after everyone had had their say and the arguing died down did Milton Grayson slowly speak.

"Who told you Vesper didn’t secure the exclusive agency rights for Vaudin?"

Everyone froze, exchanging uncertain glances.

Gwen Grayson’s fingers clenched tightly, disbelief swirling in her eyes.

Milton Grayson gave Aaron Sawyer a look.

Aaron Sawyer immediately began distributing the documents one by one.

"This is the proposal Vesper wrote herself, along with the exclusive agency contract personally signed by Elena, the President of Vaudin Asia-Pacific."

The entire room fell silent.

After reading the documents, the way everyone looked at Vesper Grayson changed completely.

"Milton, that girl Vesper has been clever since she was a child. This proposal is truly well-written. It’s quite reminiscent of your style back in the day."

Howard Townsend, a veteran who had built the company with Milton Grayson and had doted on Vesper since she was young, spoke with a smile, his eyes full of approval.

"Howard, I’m not even half as good as Vesper. With one move, she secured a project that I couldn’t get no matter how much I racked my brain."

Milton Grayson swept his gaze across the room, his tone cold and hard. "Does anyone else have any objections? If not, this meeting is adjourned."

Arnold Hutton immediately said in a low voice, "Milton, even if Vesper got lucky this time with the Vaudin project, she still has no work experience. Her qualifications are too shallow. She’s far less steady and insightful than Gwen. In my opinion, the Vice President position should rightfully go to Gwen."

"Lucky?" Howard Townsend sneered. "Why don’t you try being lucky like that for me to see! Who was it just now that kept insisting we should be talking about ability? Now that Vesper has secured the most important project of the year, you’re suddenly unhappy about it?"

He turned to Gwen Grayson. "Gwen, do you honor your bets?"

"Mr. Townsend, I just feel my sister’s qualifications aren’t as strong as mine, making her unfit for such a huge responsibility." Gwen Grayson pressed her lips together, feigning maturity. "Even if she got lucky and won the project this time, if she messes it up later, Vaudin will just terminate the contract with Grayson Corporation. It would be better to let me take over the Vaudin project. I promise I won’t let anyone down."

This was a blatant attempt to steal it.

Vesper Grayson chuckled softly and looked up at her. "Little sister, don’t be so shameless. Even if I handed the project to you, you wouldn’t be able to hold onto it. You probably didn’t read the contract carefully. Article 21 states very clearly that if this project is not personally managed by me, the contract is automatically void."

She had anticipated Gwen would pull a stunt like this, so she had asked Elena for this safeguard in advance.

Gwen Grayson’s face changed drastically. She frantically flipped to Article 21.

After reading that line, her face instantly turned as white as a sheet.

The people who had spoken out against her earlier all fell silent after reading the clause.

Vesper Grayson’s tone was light, but every word struck a nerve.

"If everyone truly feels Gwen is more capable of being Vice President, then as her older sister, it wouldn’t be right for me to fight her for it."

"Worst case, we just scrap the project."

"I just wonder if Gwen can afford to compensate all of you for your losses."

She spoke casually, but every sentence precisely prodded at the crowd’s most sensitive nerve—their financial interests.

"Gwen, you honor your bets! How can you go back on something you’ve promised!"

Arnold Hutton’s tone shifted completely. He looked back at Milton Grayson, the earlier defiance on his face gone. "Milton, let’s proceed as you’ve arranged. Qualifications aren’t everything. We trust in Vesper’s abilities."

’Even Vesper had to secretly admire how quickly this old fox could change his tune.’

After most of the people had left, Gwen Grayson walked right up and blocked her path.

"Vesper Grayson, you obviously secured the Vaudin agency rights a long time ago. Why didn’t you say anything?"

"I don’t believe I have any obligation to report my every move to you." Vesper Grayson’s smile was cool. "When your skills fall short, you resort to manipulating the shareholders to suppress me. If I hadn’t been prepared, you really would have gotten your way today."

The corners of Gwen Grayson’s eyes turned red with anger. "What on earth did you do to get Elena to cooperate with you?"

"You want to know?"

"Stop being mysterious!"

"Perhaps it’s because I have more charisma than you."

Vesper Grayson’s lips curved into a slight smirk. She brushed past Gwen and walked straight out.

Just as she got back to her office, she received a call from Ashmore.

"Vesper, as you instructed, we’ve stopped all aid to Zephyr."

"Thank you, Mr. Sutton."

"I’ve watched you and Luke Lockwood get to this point. Are you really sure you can let him go?"

"Mr. Sutton, you know I can’t tolerate deceit. Since he cheated and betrayed me, going back to him would be like handing him the knife to wound me a second time."

"Alright. Since your mind is made up, I have no more reservations."

"Thank you, Mr. Sutton. And thank you for your care over the past three years."

Years ago, her grandfather had saved Thomas Sutton’s life. In return, Thomas Sutton personally promised to unconditionally grant her grandfather any one request in the future.

She had used that promise to get Thomas Sutton to step in and support Luke Lockwood all the way, helping him find his footing in the tech industry and soar.

"I heard Luke Lockwood went to Northolme. You should be careful," Thomas Sutton warned.

After all, Vesper had sold half of Zephyr’s shares to Zenith, making it difficult for Luke Lockwood to make a move within his own company. He had also become increasingly sullen.

He was worried Luke Lockwood would retaliate against Vesper.

A touch of warmth spread through Vesper Grayson’s heart. "I know. You take care of yourself too."

...

Luke Lockwood walked out of the airport.

Harold Warner followed behind him, carrying a suitcase.

Once they were in the car, Luke Lockwood asked in a deep voice, "Have you found out where Vesper is?"
