My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable

Chapter 64: Sorry, I Couldn’t Hold Back

Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Sorry, I Couldn’t Hold Back

Just as everything was threatening to spiral out of control, Vesper Grayson forced herself to pull back from the surging lust.

Her hand rested lightly against the man’s hard, searing chest. Her red lips were parted, her breathing shallow. The corners of her eyes were flushed a delicate pink, her gaze as alluring as silk, enough to make one’s heart tremble.

"President Hawthorne, was my performance to your satisfaction?"

It was rare to see her so forward and alluring. Jared Hawthorne’s eyes darkened as he stared at her slightly swollen lips. His throat tightened; he clearly hadn’t had his fill.

"That wasn’t enough. I need another taste."

He shifted, pressing her into the sofa cushions, and lowered his head to claim her lips once more.

Vesper Grayson quickly raised a slender index finger, pressing it lightly against his lips. Her breath hitched. "Jared Hawthorne, don’t be shameless. You were clearly satisfied just now."

"You’re not me. How could you know if I was satisfied?"

Jared Hawthorne’s fingertips gently brushed against her soft, delicate cheek as his intense gaze traced the contours of her face.

She was a world away from the girl he remembered from childhood.

She used to be a cherubic, perfectly sculpted doll. Now, the baby fat was gone, replaced by a sharp, delicate jawline. Her eyes were elegantly shaped, and every frown and smile held a bewitching charm.

Her skin was pale enough to seem translucent, her lips a natural crimson. The look in her eyes was a captivating mix of girlish innocence and womanly allure.

Jared Hawthorne suddenly raised a hand, capturing the slender finger she held against his lips. He leaned in closer, his breath warm against her skin, his voice a low, bewitching murmur.

"Miss Grayson, you’re the one who started this." His Adam’s apple bobbed, his gaze deep and vast. "Are you going to start a fire and not take responsibility for it?"

Vesper’s eyes widened, her cheeks flushing. "You were the one who hinted you wanted to see a performance..."

’I have never met a man so shameless, to twist things around and blame me.’

Jared Hawthorne chuckled. "I never said you had to kiss me. For you to be so forward can only mean one thing, Miss Grayson. You find me irresistible."

"You just love bullying me! Get off, I don’t want to play this game anymore!"

She yanked her hand back and struggled fiercely, trying to squirm out from under him.

"Don’t move." Jared Hawthorne’s voice suddenly dropped, a low, dangerous rasp.

’But Vesper had no intention of obeying. Why should she always do what he wanted? She was going to move, just to see what he could do about it.’

But in the next instant, she felt something, and her body went rigid. She didn’t dare move an inch.

Her cheeks instantly burned crimson as she glared at the man above her, a mixture of shame and anger in her eyes.

"Jared Hawthorne... aren’t the rumors that you’re uninterested in women? That you’re self-disciplined and abstinent?"

The calloused pad of his thumb brushed across her lips. His voice was low and unabashed.

"Instead of trusting those rumors, perhaps Miss Grayson should find out for herself."

"I’m a man. A thirty-year-old man who’s been celibate."

"Now that I’ve had a taste, it’s hard to go back to a life of abstinence."

Vesper Grayson had known since childhood that she was beautiful. When other people called her a beauty, it was just frivolous teasing. But from him, the word simply sounded enchanting.

"I need to call Shiloh first."

’I have to make sure she’s really safe.’

"Alright."

Jared Hawthorne picked up his phone from the coffee table and called Leon Quillan.

"Put Miss Sloan on."

Leon Quillan had just gotten her into the car when he received the call from President Hawthorne. He quickly handed his phone to the woman in the passenger seat.

"Here."

Shiloh Sloan was still shaken, not yet having recovered from her narrow escape from death moments ago. She took the phone stiffly.

"Hello?"

"Shiloh, it’s me! How are you? Are you hurt?"

"Vesper..."

Hearing the familiar voice, Shiloh Sloan’s eyes instantly welled up, and she burst out crying. "WAHHH! I was so scared! I almost died! I thought I’d never see you again... Waaaah."

"Okay, okay, you’re safe now. Just stay with Leon Quillan and do as he says."

"I know... but can you come be with me?"

Before Vesper could answer, the man took the phone from her.

Jared Hawthorne spoke into the phone, his voice low.

"Miss Sloan, Miss Grayson and I have some matters to discuss. Leon Quillan is with you; you don’t need to worry about your safety."

Shiloh Sloan stared at the phone, which had already been disconnected. Tears still clung to her eyelashes, and she looked completely baffled.

’There’s a man with Vesper?!’

Seeing her stunned expression as he drove, Leon Quillan kindly offered, "Your safe escape is all thanks to President Hawthorne, Miss Sloan."

Shiloh snapped out of her daze. "The President Hawthorne... the one engaged to Vesper?" she asked uncertainly.

Leon Quillan nodded. "First, I’m taking you to the police station to give a statement about what you saw. For now, you’ll stay in a hotel. Once they’ve caught the person, you can go home."

"But what if they can’t find them? Does that mean I can’t ever go home?"

"You can, but your safety won’t be guaranteed."

Shiloh wanted to cry.

"Hey, buddy," she began, "you look big and strong. How about I hire you to be my bodyguard? To protect me?"

’I was just trying to hire some tough-looking guys for the company to help with debt collection. But it backfired, and I saw something I wasn’t supposed to see, and now I’m the one being hunted!’

’Why is my life so difficult?’

"No!" Leon Quillan refused flatly.

Shiloh puffed out her chest, looking every bit the wealthy heiress. "I’m rich."

Leon kept his eyes on the road. "I’m more interested in being alive to spend my own money."

"..."

The moment the call ended, Jared Hawthorne seized her wrist, pinning it firmly above her head. His grip was controlled yet commanding, and he was careful to avoid her injured palm.

"Now, where were we?"

The words were barely out of his mouth before he lowered his head for a kiss. Vesper turned away, her breathing uneven.

"What is it now?" Jared Hawthorne raised an eyebrow. He was fighting to suppress his burning desire, and his voice was a low, husky growl of impatience.

"Just one time."

Jared Hawthorne chuckled softly. Unable to hold back any longer, his large hand cradled the back of her head, pulling her into a deep, demanding kiss without another word.

In the tangle of lips and tongues, all reason collapsed.

Vesper gradually lost herself in his searing kiss, allowing herself to follow his lead into complete and utter abandon.

She lost count of how many times it happened. By the time she woke up, it was already noon.

The bedroom was a complete mess, and her body was covered in a shocking array of marks, a pitiful sight to behold.

She was both mortified and furious.

She cursed under her breath, "Liar!"

The bedroom door was pushed open, and the tall, imposing man strode in.

"Liar? Where?"

Vesper froze, her gaze meeting his smiling eyes.

"You didn’t leave?"

Jared Hawthorne walked to the side of the bed and braced his hands on either side of her, leaning in with a smirk. "This is my home. Where did you expect me to be, Miss Grayson?"

She was already fuming, and the sight of his handsome, flippant face only made her angrier.

"I said ’just once’ last night."

"Hm? Did I agree to that?"

"You gave your tacit approval!"

Jared Hawthorne raised an eyebrow. "Says who?"

"..."

"Miss Grayson, you can’t trust a word a man says in bed." He reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Once things get started, you just have to go by feel. Sorry, I couldn’t quite hold back last night."

His tone was casual, holding not a single trace of apology.

Vesper Grayson held out her hand to him. "The pill."

"What?" For a moment, Jared Hawthorne didn’t understand.

"The morning-after pill," Vesper clarified. "Or were you hoping I’d get pregnant out of wedlock?"

Jared Hawthorne’s eyes darkened, a flicker of something unreadable in their depths.

"The other times... did you take the pill then, too?"
