My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 330: Do You Know Your Husband?Cecelia Archer was busy in her office when Ryan suddenly walked in, looking troubled.
"Miss Archer, could you take a break for a moment? Someone is outside and wants to see you."
"Do they have an appointment? If not, have them make one. I’m very busy right now."
Cecelia Archer didn’t even lift her head, engrossed in her work. Ryan paused.
"I’m afraid that might be difficult. It’s Miss Morgan."
Gwen Morgan?
She had been busy for a week, but it felt as long as half a lifetime. To Cecelia, the name sounded so distant.
People don’t show up for no reason. Gwen Morgan had made a special trip to the company to see her, so she must have something to say. Wouldn’t it be unreasonable for her to put on airs and refuse?
"Let her in."
Gwen Morgan was as beautiful and exquisite as ever. Cecelia Archer stood up to greet her.
"Miss Morgan. Long time no see."
Gwen Morgan strolled casually around the office.
"Already handling things for Damien, are we? You’re quite capable. It must feel great to be the president of Vaughn Group, right?"
Although the two hadn’t openly argued, there was an inexplicable feeling that all pretense was gone. Cecelia had no intention of beating around the bush with her.
"It’s alright. Surely you didn’t come all this way just to ask me that, Miss Morgan?"
"Of course not. I’m not that bored. Miss Archer, you’re a smart woman. I’ve known that from the very beginning. To be honest, I actually wanted to be friends with you. A pity you think so highly of yourself and refused to associate with me."
’I never thought I acted superior around her. But I guess if you want to condemn someone, you’ll never be short of a pretext.’
"Miss Morgan, please have a seat. If you have something to say, please get straight to the point."
She sat down behind her desk, and Gwen Morgan sat opposite her.
"What has Damien been busy with lately?"
"Surely you haven’t deleted his contact information, Miss Morgan? If you’re so eager to know what he’s doing, why don’t you just give him a call?"
Gwen Morgan let out a soft chuckle. "Oh, you... Forget it. Let’s get straight to the point."
"Cecelia, do you think Damien Vaughn really loves you? You have a child together, you’re legally married, and now you’re even handling business for the Vaughn Group. You’re solidly the Young Mrs. Vaughn. Are you feeling fulfilled?"
Cecelia didn’t answer her question.
"Miss Morgan, you still haven’t gotten to the point."
"True. But I still want to ask this question. Please answer me honestly, won’t you?"
"In a sense, yes. We have a child together and a legally binding marriage certificate."
"Do you think you know Damien Vaughn?"
Cecelia answered honestly, "No one can understand another person one hundred percent. After all, you can’t read someone’s mind. But understanding a part of them is enough, isn’t it?"
"That depends on which part. If you don’t even know the true face he deliberately hides, you’ll be very disappointed the day you find out."
Cecelia shrugged.
She didn’t think she could be very disappointed in Damien Vaughn.
Although she didn’t understand him completely, she felt she knew him pretty well.
"Alright, enough with the preamble. I have work to do, Miss Morgan. You can get to your point now."
"Okay."
Gwen Morgan had indeed gotten a good read on her attitude. Satisfied, she took out her phone, unlocked it, and pushed it in front of Cecelia.
"I came to do a good deed. I’ve collected some photos for you to see. Keep scrolling, take your time."
Cecelia glanced at her warily.
Seeing Gwen Morgan watching her with her arms crossed and a leisurely expression, seemingly without any aggression, she picked up the phone.
Just as Gwen Morgan had said, there were a lot of photos—a good forty or fifty of them. It took Cecelia a while to scroll through them all.
Her expression changed from her earlier confidence to disbelief, and finally to a dead calm. She now knew Gwen Morgan’s true purpose in coming here.
’I really am a clown.’
Just moments ago, when Gwen Morgan had asked if she knew Damien Vaughn, she’d thought she knew him almost completely. But these photos were like a series of loud slaps across her face, telling her just how naive she was.
She didn’t just not know Damien Vaughn; he was practically a stranger.
This man, the father of her daughter, the man who had just married her, who had doted on her so completely that she thought she was the happiest woman in the world—had so many secrets behind her back.
She never knew that besides Gwen Morgan and Claire Clark, there was another woman—a complete stranger—secretly in his life.
Damien Vaughn slept with her every night, pulling her close for intimacy every night, only to sneak away from her side after she fell asleep to go and see that other woman.
And Mrs. Vaughn was there too!
Mrs. Vaughn wasn’t dead.
’My god, how ironic.’
They had caused such a massive uproar back then, hating her with such gritted teeth, pushing her and her daughter to the brink of death, branding her a murderous villainess—and it was all a sham!
If Gwen Morgan hadn’t come to tell her today, Cecelia had no idea how much longer she would have been deceived.
’I trusted Damien Vaughn so much...’
Cecelia’s mind went blank.
’Why would Damien Vaughn do this?’
’I’m just an ordinary single mother, as ordinary as can be. I have no money, no status, no extraordinary beauty or intelligence. If Damien Vaughn had just ignored me, I would have been a complete nobody, attracting no attention at all.’
’But not only did he have to pursue me, he also put me on such a high pedestal, only for it all to be a sham in the end!’
’What was he after?’
’Was it for the fun of toying with me? For the sense of accomplishment he gets from seeing me sad and dejected?’
’Or did he hate me to the bone, thinking that letting me die back then would have been too easy? Did he have to lift me high into the air, only to feel satisfied when I fell to my death?’
Cecelia couldn’t figure it out, and she didn’t want to.
She had just solemnly promised Candy that Mommy and Daddy would always be by her side, giving her the best life.
She had just taken Damien Vaughn back home to see her brother and sister-in-law, letting them think she was the happiest person in the world. But now, it was all fake. She had once again pushed herself into a desperate situation.
Whether it was joy or sorrow, everything had become meaningless to her.
Although she didn’t say a word while looking at the photos, Gwen Morgan could sense her shock and sorrow from her changing expression. She was very satisfied.
"I didn’t come here to gloat. As a woman whose feelings were also toyed with by Damien Vaughn, I couldn’t bear to see you go down my old path. So I came to give you a kind reminder, Cecelia. There’s nothing more vicious in this world than a man, and no man more vicious than Damien Vaughn."
"Pull yourself together and leave him. Take your child with you. You’re no match for him. If you keep playing this game, you won’t even know what hit you."
After speaking, Gwen Morgan took her phone back and left.
The same pile of work was still on her desk, the same work that had been suffocating her just minutes ago. Now, it all looked like a pile of scrap paper.
She leaned her head back against the chair and squeezed her eyes shut.
