My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 375: You Are Abusing Your Power

Brandon Jacobs had consistently refused, until half a month ago.

His mother had managed to find out which hotel he was staying at and sent someone to tell him that his father was sick—gravely ill. Not only that, but someone was working against him behind the scenes, trying to sabotage him at a critical juncture.

His mother couldn’t bear to see his father’s lifelong reputation ruined, so she wanted him to come back and help. She also took the opportunity to tell him something utterly absurd.

Twenty years ago, when his father had just taken up his post in the coal-rich province of Coalmont, he had arranged a marriage for their children with a close friend of his.

Now, with his father gravely ill and seeing that Brandon Jacobs still showed no signs of settling down, he wanted him to marry the girl and start a family.

Even if he refused to go into politics, his father wanted to see him married with children before he could be at peace.

To Brandon Jacobs, it was an endless source of vexation, but Wyatt Wynn’s eyes lit up when he heard it.

"You actually have a fiancée from a child betrothal? Holy crap! We’ve been bros for years and I never knew! You’re so damn lucky! Got a picture? How old is she? What does she look like? Let me see! Jacobs, damn it, your luck with women is seriously enviable!"

Brandon Jacobs shot him a cold, sidelong glance.

"So envious? You can have this good fortune if you want it."

Wyatt Wynn chuckled. "My family didn’t arrange a childhood betrothal for me. I couldn’t have it even if I wanted to!"

He said he was envious, but everyone knew that a childhood betrothal was completely lame. It was like an old-fashioned arranged marriage—simply ridiculous.

If that "good fortune" were actually offered to Wyatt Wynn, he definitely wouldn’t want it.

Even though he was always fooling around, deep down, he was just like Damien Vaughn, Zeke Walton, and Brandon Jacobs. Playing the field was fine, but a serious relationship? That wasn’t so easy.

Their standards were sky-high.

Damien Vaughn, however, thought this was a good thing.

He didn’t want Brandon Jacobs to remain trapped in Elsa’s shadow.

"So what are you going to do about it?"

"Nothing. I’m not agreeing to it, period. I don’t even know the woman, and even if I did, there are no feelings involved. I’m not going to throw away the rest of my life for my dad’s selfish whim."

Wyatt Wynn mocked him, "Maybe the girl won’t be willing either. Don’t get ahead of yourself. If this marriage talk gets serious, she’ll probably run faster than you."

Everyone had been dealing with their own troubles lately and feeling suffocated, so the close friends had gathered for a night of drinking. It relieved a lot of stress, and the next day, life went on.

Since Zeke Walton founded his "It Had to Be You" brand, he had matured quite a bit.

Not only had he become more composed in his work, but he was also willing to help out at the family company again. Mrs. Walton had been very happy lately.

After working hard for half her life, she could finally relax at home.

This morning, she slept in, put on her makeup beautifully, and went downstairs, just about to have breakfast when the butler came in to inform her of something.

"Madam, there are two men at the gate, shouting that they want to see the young master. We can’t get them to leave. What should we do...?"

Mrs. Walton’s eyebrow shot up.

"Two men? What kind of men?"

"Two very crude, dark-skinned, and boorish men. They’re dressed in rags and have out-of-town accents. I don’t know where they popped up from, but they insist that if they don’t see the young master today, they’ll just stay at the gate and not leave. How could the young master possibly know people like them? I suspect they have ill intentions and are here just to cause trouble."

The Walton Family had been in Veridia for many years. While not the absolute top, they were at least in the top ten of the social elite, and they had never encountered anyone so audacious.

Two hicks with out-of-town accents were here to provoke them?

Mrs. Walton grew curious. "I’ll go take a look."

The butler accompanied her to the entrance. As soon as the main gate opened, she saw that it was just as he’d described: two dark, scruffy hicks who looked like they’d crawled out of some backwater hole.

’How dare they shout at my gate?’

Mrs. Walton looked at them, her expression cold.

"Who are you? Why are you loitering at my gate and refusing to leave? What do you want?"

"Who are we? You tell us who we are!"

Ever since Amina ran away, her two older brothers had been asking around about Zeke Walton.

After nearly a month of inquiries, they had finally tracked him down.

After all the trouble just to get someone to see them, he was now filled with rage.

"Your son abducted my sister! We don’t know where he’s taken her! You people bully others with your power, thinking you can do whatever you want because you’re filthy rich! Snatching a girl in broad daylight! Ruining her innocence! Is there no law anymore? You ask who we are!"

Mrs. Walton hadn’t expected him to say something like that.

’Zeke Walton snatched their sister in broad daylight? Utterly ridiculous.’

’Judging by the state of these two, how great could their sister be?’

’Zeke lives in Veridia. What kind of beauty hasn’t he seen? Would he really need to snatch *her*?’

The butler also found it absurd.

"Do you know where you are? Do you know who you’re talking to? You need evidence for everything. You’re trespassing on private property and openly slandering our young master. There will be legal consequences for that!"

Amina’s oldest brother ignored him. "Living in such a big house, so rich, yet you dare to do things but not admit them? If we didn’t have evidence, if we didn’t know who you were, would we have come all the way here? Cut the crap! Get that Zeke Walton guy out here to see us! Bring out my sister! If you don’t give us an explanation today, we’re not finished with you!"

Mrs. Walton, afraid they would cause a scene by shouting at the gate and bring shame to the family if word got out, had the security guards escort them to the guardhouse.

After listening to the two brothers’ accusations, she finally understood that the delivery girl Zeke had been dealing with lately was their sister.

Zeke had been getting close to that delivery girl, and rumors had circulated a few times in their social circle. Mrs. Walton knew about it, but she had never paid it any mind.

For one, she felt the gap between them was too vast. It was impossible for Zeke to fall for that kind of girl, so there was no need to interfere.

And two, even if Zeke was interested in the girl out of curiosity or for fun, it wouldn’t last long. The great Walton Family would never allow such a girl to marry into it. Zeke had always known how deep the prejudice between high-society families was; he wouldn’t let himself be humiliated in front of his friends.

So, Mrs. Walton had never asked a single question about it.

She just hadn’t expected the girl’s brothers to be so bold in their thinking.

The girl herself hadn’t made a move, yet her brothers had come knocking.

’It’s a no-brainer. A girl of her sort... is she worthy of marrying into our family?’

Mrs. Walton remained perfectly calm and composed.

"I’m afraid you’re overthinking things. Your sister is one of my son’s employees. The only reason he gave her a ride home was out of kindness. Didn’t you just say that your grandmother is unwell and they were bringing her here for treatment? My son helps you out of the goodness of his heart, and in return, you falsely accuse him. Aren’t you being a little ungrateful?"

"Kindness? I think your son has his eyes on my sister and wants to sleep with her! I don’t care. My sister’s reputation is ruined in our village now. She’ll never be able to get married! If your family doesn’t take responsibility, we’ll go to the reporters, to the TV stations, and expose you! You abduct women and bully people with your power—you won’t get away with this!"
