Mrs. Walton had her chauffeur get out of the car and call Amina over.
Amina brought the coffee to the car, her eyes meeting the youthful, elegant face of Mrs. Walton. She was completely baffled.
’This is the first time I’ve had an order like this—someone just sitting in a car on the side of the road, waiting. And why is she looking at me so strangely?’
"Hello, here’s your coffee. My apologies, I had a little trouble finding you, so it took a bit longer."
"Not at all. You were very quick."
Amina had a slight accent, but it wasn’t thick. Combined with her looks, it was actually quite complementary, lending her an unexpected charm.
Mrs. Walton looked at her with a gentle expression. "Could you get in the car and chat with me for a bit? This won’t interfere with your work, will it?"
Amina froze.
’Get in the car and chat with her? What a strange request.’
"I have other orders to pick up, so I’m afraid I can’t. Ma’am, is there something you need?"
Mrs. Walton hadn’t wanted to reveal her identity so soon, but seeing Amina’s wariness, she felt she had no choice.
"I’m Zeke Walton’s mother."
Amina’s mind went blank, short-circuiting for a few seconds.
’Zeke Walton’s mother.’
She knew Zeke was young, a successful entrepreneur with money. But she’d never imagined his mother would also be this wealthy—or this young.
Back when they delivered food together, they would zip around the streets on their electric scooters. Zeke, worried she might accidentally scratch someone’s car, had taught her to recognize a number of luxury car emblems.
Amina could clearly identify the car before her as a Bentley.
She didn’t know the exact price, but she remembered Zeke saying that even the entry-level models cost several million.
It was one thing to know Zeke, but she had never considered meeting his mother, much less getting to know her. Amina’s legs started to feel weak.
Once inside the car, she had no idea what kind of expression to put on for Mrs. Walton, and her face flushed bright red.
"Ma’am, what did you want to talk to me about?"
"Just a casual chat. There’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m not fierce, and I don’t bite. You don’t have to be so nervous."
As she spoke, Mrs. Walton gently took Amina’s hand, cradled it in her own palm, and examined it from all angles.
"Your name is Amina?"
"Yes."
"How old are you?"
"Twenty."
"Only twenty and already working. How long have you been at it?"
"I just started, at the beginning of the year."
"And you came straight to Veridia when you started?"
"Yes."
"Did you follow a relative here?"
"Yes."
"Did your relative find this job for you?"
"Yes."
"Before you came to Veridia, were you in school? How far did you get?"
"I finished high school and then stopped."
’Oh. At least she graduated from high school. No wonder she speaks so differently from those two brothers.’
Mrs. Walton glanced at Amina’s youthful, pretty profile, then down at her hands, which seemed so out of place with her face. She actually felt a twinge of pity for the girl.
"How did you and Zeke meet?"
Amina explained how she had coincidentally met Zeke in the villa complex one day, and Mrs. Walton nodded.
"You’re a good girl. Zeke was lucky to have met you."
Amina, in turn, sincerely thought that Mrs. Walton was a wonderful mother.
’She’s so beautiful, so gentle, and so young. No wonder she could raise a son as wonderful as Zeke.’
Seeing the look of admiration on Amina’s face, Mrs. Walton smiled.
"Why don’t you take the rest of the day off for me, alright? I only have one son, Zeke, and I’ve always wanted a daughter, but my health just wouldn’t permit it. When I see you, it feels like I’ve gained a daughter. I would truly love to get to know you."
With her putting it that way, how could Amina possibly refuse?
"Should I go home and change my clothes then?"
"No, no, what you’re wearing is fine. I don’t mind at all. Still, there isn’t much to do right now. It’s too early for lunch, but too late for breakfast. I know! I’ll take you to get a beauty treatment. It just so happens I’m long overdue. You’re so young, you must take proper care of your hands. They say a woman’s hands are her second face. If you’re not careful, people will laugh at you when you show them in a crowd."
Amina’s face flushed crimson.
Mrs. Walton was more than twenty years her senior, yet her fingers were pale and delicate, coated in shimmering nail polish with tiny gems affixed to them.
By comparison, Amina felt like she was the one with the old hands.
Embarrassed, Amina snatched her hand back, hiding it between her knees.
Mrs. Walton watched her small reactions, knowing the girl felt insecure. The corner of her mouth curled into a subtle smile.
The chauffeur quickly drove them to the beauty salon Mrs. Walton frequented.
Amina couldn’t find the words to describe just how high-end and luxurious the place was.
She had seen wealthy socialites getting pampered on TV, but the reality was far more extravagant than anything she’d ever seen on screen.
From the moment she stepped into the salon, the sheer luxury and exquisite detail assaulted her senses.
Everyone around her was dressed impeccably. Every face was perfectly clean, and every strand of hair seemed meticulously styled. The phrase "a world of difference" echoed in Amina’s mind. She felt utterly dwarfed by comparison.
She never felt ashamed of her work clothes while walking down the street, but stepping foot in here, all she wanted was to find a hole to disappear into.
Mrs. Walton, clearly in her element, basked in the staff’s compliments. After a round of pleasantries, she gestured to Amina and said,
"This is my friend. Today is her first time here for a treatment. She’s only twenty, but just look at her hands... Make sure you take very good care of them."
A beautician immediately grabbed Amina’s hand and exclaimed in surprise upon seeing it, "My goodness, are these really the hands of a twenty-year-old?"
Amina felt as if she had been slapped in the face in public, with nowhere left to hide.
To ensure their clients’ privacy, the salon provided a private room for each guest.
Mrs. Walton kindly gave Amina a few instructions before heading into her own room.
Amina was led to a separate room.
The beautician started chatting with her from the moment she sat down.
"So, you’re a delivery driver? How on earth did you get to know Mrs. Walton and become her friend? That’s incredible. Mrs. Walton’s been a client here for years, and our manager has hardly managed to say two words to her, never mind befriend her. I’m so envious."
Amina was no fool. From the staff’s fawning, she could tell that Mrs. Walton was a woman of considerable status.
"Is Mrs. Walton that big of a deal?"
The beautician gave her a strange look.
"You’re her friend and you don’t know who she is?"
"I... we just met by chance. She was only being polite when she called me her friend."
No wonder. The beautician gave Amina another strange look.
"The Walton Family is a big deal in Veridia, and you don’t even know that? They might not be number one or two, but they’re definitely in the top five of Veridia’s high society. The beauty industry is booming right now, and their family is in the cosmetics business. They’re said to be worth tens of billions. How on earth did you two meet? You’ve got some skills, managing to get in with her from a chance meeting and even get her to bring you to a salon... You probably won’t have to worry about finding a husband now. If you play your cards right and get her to take you on as a goddaughter or a niece or something, she could just casually set you up with one of her employees, and you’d be set for life."
Amina’s hand jerked, startling the beautician.
’Their family is worth tens of billions? What does that even mean?’
Even if Amina earned a hundred thousand a year, it would take her ten years without spending a single cent to make a million.
To make ten million, it would take a hundred years.
A hundred million...
And Zeke’s family had *tens of billions*!
