My Class is Null, But I Always Get the Best Outcome

The enormous golden weapon hung above Mythal, a single structure built from thousands of merged swords, lances, hammers, and guns, and at its center burned a brilliant golden core.

Kai looked up. "...There it is."

"The core," Tiamat confirmed.

He gripped Null Fang. "Let’s finish this."

The weapon opened, every gun aiming downward, every lance locking into place.

"Kai!" Lily’s voice cut through the network.

"I’m ready."

"Everyone is ready."

He smiled. "Then let’s do it."

The golden weapon fired.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Energy poured down over Mythal, and the remaining defense network flared to life across every district, barriers rising, mana flooding the streets, the Astral Church reinforcing the outer line.

"Barrier output at maximum!" Elden called.

"It won’t hold for long!" Lily warned.

"Then don’t let it!" Mira shouted.

Hunters braced as the attack crashed down. The whole city shook. Windows shattered in rows. Buildings groaned. The ground split in several places.

But the central districts held.

Kai moved instantly, and the arsenal followed, swords peeling off the main structure, lances redirecting, guns turning to track him.

"It’s following," he said.

"It always has."

He grinned. "Then let’s make it follow me somewhere useful."

He cut hard toward the eastern district, already evacuated days earlier.

"Kai’s moving toward the empty zone," Lily said.

"Support him," Mira ordered.

"Redirecting the remaining systems," Elden confirmed.

"The Church will follow," Gabriel added.

"Straight!" Lily called.

He ran.

"Left!"

He turned, and a hammer crashed into the street behind him.

BOOM!

"Right!"

He cut sideways, and a lance buried itself where he’d been standing.

SHING!

"Keep moving!"

"You’re getting good at this," he said, breathless.

"You make it easy."

"You call this easy?" A dozen bullets tore through the building beside him. "This doesn’t look easy."

Mira had the hunters clearing debris ahead of him in real time, a fallen wall dragged aside, a collapsed street opened. "Keep the corridor open!" Sera cut through several swords blocking his path.

CLANG!

SLASH!

"Path is clear!"

"Thanks!" he called.

"Keep running!"

"Wasn’t planning to stop!"

The weapons adjusted formation again, the safe corridor shrinking fast.

"They’re adapting again," Lily said.

"How quickly?" Elden asked.

"Too quickly."

"Can we widen it?" Mira asked.

Lily shook her head. "No."

"Then don’t," Kai said, still running. "We don’t need a wide path."

"Just enough room for you," Lily said, understanding.

"Exactly."

He activated the Ashen Seal, and Tempest Fang, Rootbreaker, Verdant Fang, Null Fang, and Bloodthorn all fell into orbit around him. A lance dove for his chest, and Tempest Fang intercepted it.

CLANG!

A sword came from his left, and Bloodthorn cut it down. A hammer fell, and Rootbreaker smashed it aside.

"You’ve stopped relying on their special abilities," Tiamat noted.

"They don’t need special abilities to be useful." He cut through another blade. "They’re weapons."

A cluster of golden swords slipped past his flank, and Sera cut into them.

SLASH!

Another appeared, and she ducked as Mira crushed it in her wake. "Got it!"

"Nice," Sera said.

Another weapon closed in, and Raze crashed into it bodily.

BOOM!

"Keep moving!"

"Thanks!" Kai called back.

"Don’t make us regret helping you!" Raze grinned.

The attack widened without warning, a massive wave of weapons descending on the surrounding hunters. Gabriel stepped forward, Church members forming a line behind her. "Hold the line!"

A massive barrier bloomed, and the weapons slammed into it.

BOOOOOOM!

Gabriel gritted her teeth against the strain. "We can hold!"

"Don’t overdo it!" Kai called toward her.

"We know," she said, smiling despite everything.

"Kai!" Lily shouted suddenly.

"What?"

"The center!"

He looked up, and the structure shifted just enough to expose the glowing core at its heart.

"Every weapon is connected to that!" Lily said.

"Destroying the outer weapons only delays it," Elden confirmed.

"Then the core is the source," Gabriel said.

"...Good," Kai said.

"Don’t assume it will be easy," Tiamat warned.

"I wasn’t planning to."

"I need an opening," he said over the network.

"How big?" Mira asked.

"One path."

"We can give you that," Sera said.

"We’ll make it," Raze added.

"Three weapons incoming from the west!" Lily called.

Sera destroyed them.

"Two lances from above!"

Raze blocked one, Mira crushed the other.

"The core is exposed!"

Kai’s eyes sharpened. "Now."

He launched skyward, Air Run catching beneath his feet, racing straight toward the golden core while weapons swarmed around him. Distortion pulled him through gap after gap, a sword missing by a hair, a lance grazing his shoulder, a bullet clipping his arm. He didn’t slow down, the Ashen Seal clearing anything else that reached him.

He arrived at the core.

"Let’s see if you’re as tough as you look."

He swung Null Fang.

SLASH!

The black blade bit into the golden surface, cracks spreading outward instantly.

The whole structure shook.

CRACK.

Another crack spread.

CRACK.

Golden light bled through the widening fractures.

"Come on," Kai muttered, pushing harder, Distortion guiding the blade toward the exact weakest seam.

CRACK!

The core shattered. A massive wave of golden energy exploded outward, and Kai was thrown backward through the air.

The arsenal came apart at once. Swords dissolved into light. Lances vanished. Hammers crumbled. Guns disappeared entirely, the entire structure losing its shape.

"It’s collapsing!" Lily shouted.

"The whole system’s breaking apart!" Elden confirmed.

"Everyone get clear!" Mira ordered.

The golden weapons burst into thousands of harmless particles, drifting down over Mythal like slow-falling snow.

Kai fell, and Sera caught him mid-drop, both of them hitting the ground hard.

"Kai!"

He exhaled. "...Got it."

She looked him over. "You’re bleeding."

"Again?"

She gave him a flat look. "...Fine."

The city settled into a fragile quiet, golden light fading slowly from the sky.

[Calamity Five — Survived.]

Kai stared at the notification. "Five."

Mira smiled. "One more."

Raze dropped to sit on a chunk of rubble. "Please let the last one be simple."

Everyone looked at him.

He raised both hands. "I’m not asking for much."

Kai laughed, exhausted. "After what we’ve been through, you probably just cursed us."

"Don’t say that."

Hunters began regrouping across the districts. "Central defense system is still active," Lily reported.

"Barely," Elden added.

"Anyone missing?" Mira called, and the teams started reporting in one by one.

"We’re still accounting for everyone," Gabriel said, moving through the Church ranks.

Kai looked out over the battered city, still standing despite everything. "We survived."

"Five," Sera said.

"Five," he echoed.

Everyone’s eyes drifted toward the sky eventually.

"The final one should be Falling Sky," Gabriel said.

"That’s what the records showed," Lily confirmed.

"We prepared for it," Elden said.

"We’ve got the barriers," Mira added.

"And the evacuation routes," Raze said.

Kai smiled. "Then maybe this one will finally go according to plan."

Gabriel didn’t smile. Her expression had gone tight.

Kai noticed immediately. "...What?"

She shook her head. "Nothing."

THOOM.

Everyone stopped at once.

Kai looked down. Another tremor rolled through the ground.

THOOM.

Harder this time. Several already-damaged buildings groaned under the strain.

"That’s not part of Falling Sky," Lily said, checking her readouts.

"Then what is it?" Elden asked.

THOOM.

Kai turned toward the center of Mythal. "...Something’s coming."

A massive shadow bled through the clouds overhead, its size impossible to gauge at first glance. It kept rising. Higher. Higher. Higher.

Then something enormous emerged above the rooftops. An arm. Then another. Then a third pair.

Six arms in total.

Each hand gripped a massive sword.

Kai’s expression shifted slowly. "...What?"

The clouds parted fully. A gigantic spectral skeleton towered over the entire city, its body translucent, bones glowing faintly beneath ancient armor. Three enormous skull-like heads sat atop its shoulders. Six arms extended from its frame, each one holding a sword large enough to level a city block.

Buildings barely reached its knees.

The hunters below went completely silent.

Raze slowly looked up. "...That’s not falling."

"No," Mira said quietly.

Lily’s mouth hung open. Elden said nothing at all. Gabriel’s face had gone pale as bone.

Kai simply stared.

He blinked. The creature remained. He rubbed his eyes and looked again. Still there. Three heads. Six arms. Six swords, each one impossibly large.

He lowered his hand slowly. "...That’s a calamity."

"It can kill you," Tiamat said inside his mind.

He looked toward her, though there was nothing to look at. "But it isn’t a disaster." A pause. He looked back up at the enormous skeleton. "It’s just a giant monster."

Tiamat went quiet for a moment.

Then: "Says who?"

He blinked. "...What?"

Her voice carried something almost amused. "It is a disaster for you if you don’t run."

His expression changed instantly. "...Run?"

The three heads turned slowly, all three faces locking directly onto him. The six arms rose in unison. Six swords pointed downward at the city.

The pressure across Mythal shifted, the air itself growing heavy enough to feel in his chest.

He gripped his sword. "...Everyone."

Nobody moved.

"MOVE!"

The six swords swung.

WHOOSH!

Massive spectral blades tore through the sky, and Kai launched himself forward on instinct.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The swords crashed down across Mythal, the whole city convulsing under the impact. Kai looked back at the towering creature, its three heads still fixed on him without wavering.

"...So this is the sixth."

The skeleton raised all six swords again.
