My Clones Can Cultivate

Chapter 167: Are You A Beast Man

Chapter 167

Shi Gubing first took in a deep, steady breath of relief that he had survived before he turned and looked at Elder Ting.

After seeing that he was safe, his confidence came back, and he spoke, his tone serious and steady: "You all know what I did is the only thing to do."

He turned his gaze to Liyu, who was looking at everything with a confused expression, and continued: "That kid is a beastman. And the Law of Lykana makes it more than clear that all beastmen within the continent must be killed on sight."

Shi Gubing said it in a tone that was loud and clear. Elder Ting, hearing this, took a pause. His lips pressed into a slight frown because Shi Gubing was not lying.

One of the absolute laws of the continent where they resided was that anytime a beastman showed up within the continent, they must be massacred and killed without any mercy whatsoever.

Whosoever tried to shelter a beastman, if found out by the upper powers, would suffer the wrath of the Imperial Family alongside the top great sects.

Them and anyone related to them would be wiped out from the surface of the earth in less than a day. This goes to show just how much weight the situation carried.

"Elder Ting, you are a great and respectable elder of a powerful noble sect. I believe you would be able to do what is right."

Elder Ting didn’t speak. His face, though, for once showed a complicated emotion, and the reason for that no one could really tell.

Many might think that it was because he didn’t want to soil the relationship between himself and the Li Clan by killing their heir. But that wasn’t even the reason for Elder Ting’s complicated thoughts right now.

Instead, it was because of another thing. It was because of the fact that he feared that if it was true, which already felt like the truth, that Liyu was indeed a beastman, then he would have to kill him.

Someone Elder Ting believed to be a one-in-a-million-years talent. It would be more than a waste to kill him off. But even Elder Ting knew for certain that there was nothing he could do if Liyu was indeed a beastman. He would have to die.

Not even Elder Ting could go against Imperial Law. Heck, the entirety of the Rising Waves Sect and all the alliances they had formed over the countless years together would still be nothing compared to the Imperial Family.

Going against them was more than crazy. It was even beyond suicidal. It was the epitome of death itself.

Elder Ting quickly arranged his thoughts and turned to Li San, whose gaze had calmed down a little as well after hearing Shi Gubing’s words. Not because he had forgiven Shi Gubing.

No. He still wanted to rip the bastard apart. But he realized that his cousin might indeed be in danger, and even if he wanted to protect him, that might not be possible.

After all, Li San, the entirety of the Li Clan, and even the entirety of the Night Region were nothing before the Imperial Family that had ruled the continent for countless years now.

Seeing his gaze, Elder Ting spoke. His tone didn’t shift from the same as before. It was as calm and composed as ever.

He spoke in a calm tone, although the content of his words made Li San startle slightly: "Let me ask you, Clan Lord Li. Tell me, is your cousin indeed a beastman?"

No matter from where Elder Ting looked at it, no matter from whatever angle he examined it, Liyu’s bestial aura now, the claws, fangs, slit eyes, everything matched the characteristics of a beastman.

Especially the aura. It was exactly the primal, bestial aura that the beasts gave off. A clear green sign that he was a beastman. But for the sake of many things, Elder Ting was still willing to give Li San the benefit of the doubt.

Li San’s gaze was complicated as he tried to think about it. No matter how much he thought, though, he couldn’t find anything.

There was no way Liyu had to become a beastman. His mother, Shiyuen, Li San’s sister, was a human. One hundred percent. And his father, Tai Long, Li San’s best friend, was also a human. Although the guy was weird and did a lot of strange things... he was not a beastman.

That much Li San was certain of. So no matter what Li San thought, or tried to think of, all the clues and points pointed at the fact that there was no way Liyu could have become a beastman. So he decided to ask the kid himself.

Li San spoke, his tone calm as he hid the raging emotions beneath: "Let me go."

Elder Ting nodded. He could sense that Li San was no longer that hell-bent on killing Shi Gubing.

At least for now. He was more focused on his cousin’s safety and life, which was more than threatened by his identity as a suspected beastman. If confirmed, his life would be in certain danger.

Elder Ting nodded, and with a pull of his intention, Li San was no longer suppressed. The guy paused for a while as he stood plainly, his gaze unfocused as if contemplating something drastic.

After a while, though, his gaze focused, and he turned to walk toward Liyu, who was just coming to terms with the fact that he had almost lost his life. And the worst thing was the fact that he didn’t even understand why he was about to be killed.

Li San walked up to him, placed a hand on his shoulder, and in a sincere, warm tone, he asked: "Are you a beastman?"

Liyu blinked once. Then he blinked twice. And then he looked up at his uncle before asking, genuinely confused: "Wait... what is a beastman?"

Li San paused as if dumbstruck by how ignorant Liyu was. It was shocking. The kid didn’t even know what a beastman was. Li San explained everything to Liyu and what was at stake.

Liyu listened, and his face changed the moment he realized that he was going to be in great danger depending on whether he was indeed a beastman or not. Since Liyu himself didn’t know whether he was a beastman, he asked the system.

The system, in comparison, had a large database of knowledge, and sure enough, the system’s reply came fast after a few moments passed.

[Host, you can be considered to be a hybrid of a hybrid.]

[After all, beastmen are a hybrid race of human and beast. Half human, half beast.]

[But you can be considered a hybrid of a beastman.]

[Due to your special physique, you can be considered both a Primal Human and a Beastman.]

[And you would even have the ability to change into a beast when you get to a certain point.]

[Those three are perks of your Divine Grade Physique, Primal Tyrant.]

Liyu blinked: "Wait... you mean I can be considered a human, at the same time an hybrid, and at the same time a beast as well?"

The system confirmed:

[Affirmative, Host.]

Liyu blinked once more: "Why does that make sense and at the same time make no sense as well?"

He wondered and then turned to look up at his uncle, who seemed to be getting stressed by this entire situation. Before he spoke up, answering his question: "Well, as you can see, I am a human."

He said, flashing his fangs, which made his words far from being convincing.

Li San’s eye twitched slightly, but he could sense that Liyu was not lying to him. And as if he had just been saved from drowning, he took a relieved breath and turned to face Elder Ting with a calm gaze: "The kid is not a beastman."

Elder Ting nodded. He also didn’t want to kill Liyu, no matter whether he was a beastman or not.

Someone with as much talent as him couldn’t simply be killed just because the Imperials were against the appearance of beastmen. So he was ready to sweep the matter aside. That was when someone else joined the matter.

"And do you think we here are all fools to believe that?"

The person who spoke this time was none other than Guan Ju, the Clan Lord of the Guan Clan. Looking at Liyu, the man felt vindictive joy.

Due to the Beast Art, the core battle art of the Guan Clan, Guan Ju, as someone who had perfect mastery of it, had a much deeper understanding and feel for beast aura. And he could tell without a second doubt that Liyu was a beastman.

And due to the Imperial Laws, every beastman found within the continent of Lykana needed to be killed on sight. And what would you know?

Guan Ju was already planning and hoping to assassinate Liyu after the tournament was over. The kid was too much of a threat.

But now... why should he stress over assassinating him if he could simply use his identity as a beastman to get him killed instead? That would be far more convenient.

And it would never come back to bite him from behind. Isn’t that just perfect?

Guan Ju grinned wickedly internally before speaking, his tone serious: "That kid is undoubtedly a beastman. His aura is bestial. It is primal. And look at his physical features."

He pointed at Liyu’s fangs, his claws, his slit eyes, and other things. "Don’t let me get started on his very presence, which is even far more primal than that of an ordinary beast. He is undoubtedly a beastman, and I believe according to the Imperial Laws, he should be put to death really fast."

Guan Ju urged, his eyes glinting wickedly. Shi Gubing at the side also nodded as they urged Elder Ting to quickly kill off Liyu. None of them dared to act themselves due to the simple fact that they knew they would be killed by Li San before they could get too close to the kid.

"You..."

Li San hissed, his gaze turning deadly as if he was on the edge of losing his calm once more and lashing out, killing the two opposing Clan Lords. Elder Ting raised his hands, silencing the two sides.

At one side, they wanted Liyu dead, and on the other side, Li San naturally didn’t want anything happening to his cousin.

Elder Ting’s eyes snapped open after a few seconds passed before he spoke: "There is only one way to find out."

He said that and brought out a white, cotton-soft, small object that looked almost mundane.

But the word almost stood out here. After all, the moment the item appeared, it had a calm, subtle presence surrounding it. As it appeared, many of the Clan Lords immediately recognized it.

"B... the Heavenly Discernment Wool..."

None of them needed to ask what it was used for. It could be used to tell if one was a human or not. All they needed to do was press it against the person’s forehead.

If it changed to red, then they were human. But if it changed to another color apart from red, then they were not human.

Elder Ting looked toward Liyu and explained:

"If I press this onto your forehead and it turns red, it means that you are clean and a human, meaning that you are free from the death sentence. But if it turns black..."

Elder Ting’s gaze seemed to sharpen. He didn’t need to explain what would happen if that happened. Everyone knew what was at stake.

Elder Ting walked forward, ready to press the Heavenly Discernment Wool onto Liyu’s forehead. But he was stopped by Li San, who blocked the path. He seemed rather unwilling to allow that.

After all, if Liyu’s cloth didn’t turn red and instead turned black... the thought alone frightened him.

"Move, Clan Lord Li," Elder Ting said.

But Li San didn’t move. He wouldn’t allow this. Just when it seemed that things would take a turn for the worst, if everything went south, Li San wasn’t going to simply give up on Liyu and let him be taken down like that.

If anything, he would risk his life to get him out of there and into safety. Li San was about to act when he felt a hand pressed into his back. He turned and saw Liyu looking at him with a warm, small smile.

"Don’t stress, Uncle. I told you I am clean. Let them check for themselves and confirm that I am not lying. Far from it."

Liyu said with a confident expression, making Li San’s eye twitch slightly as he genuinely wondered if now was the time for Liyu to be joking around, or if it was just that he didn’t know the severity of the situation to still be joking around.

Li San wanted to say something. He wanted to argue. But seeing Liyu’s gaze, which seemed to say, Believe in me. I wouldn’t fail you, he relented after a while and nodded.

Li San stepped away, and Elder Ting soon stood before Liyu, staring at him with the Heavenly Discernment Wool in his hand. His gaze seemed to ask, Are you sure about this? It seemed the elder himself wasn’t siding with this.

Liyu didn’t back down, though. Instead, he smiled and nodded: "Trust me, Elder. I am the most honest child you will ever meet."

With that, Elder Ting nodded. And under the anticipation of everyone watching, he pressed the cotton against Liyu’s forehead.
