My Clones Can Cultivate

Chapter 196: Why Am I Always Losing?

Chapter 196

At the Shi camp, Shi Tian finally opened his eyes. His dark pupils glinted beneath the pale moonlight as his gaze locked directly onto Liyu’s figure, who was currently seated on the marble stage.

The once majestic stage had been thoroughly wrecked by the final attack; cracks spread across its surface like a spiderweb, several sections of the marble had been shattered completely, and traces of destruction still remained everywhere.

Yet strangely enough, the stage hadn’t been completely destroyed, and that alone showed just how sturdy the ref made the stage before the final between Liyu and Guan Haoran had been.

Compared to the previous destruction that had nearly reduced the entire stage to rubble, this time the damage was considerably less, but that didn’t make the final clash any less terrifying. If anything, it proved just how much power had been concentrated into that single exchange.

Shi Tian had felt the force behind that final clash as well, and for the first time in a long while, he couldn’t help but feel impressed. Finally, someone who wasn’t a weakling.

Shi Tian’s dark eyes remained fixed on Liyu, a wicked glint slowly appearing within them. "I would kill him." The conclusion came coldly and analytically. There was no excitement in his voice, no arrogance, no desire to show off, and certainly no childish desire to simply win the tournament.

It was something far more fundamental than that; for perhaps the first time in his entire life, Shi Tian had encountered someone who possessed greater potential than himself, and that alone was enough.

Never in his life had Shi Tian imagined that a weakling at the Qi Gathering Realm could make him feel threatened... and it wasn’t merely any Qi Gathering cultivator, but the very first stage of the Qi Gathering Realm.

Someone who had only just stepped into the second realm of the Mortal Stage yet somehow managed to force the Devil of the Shi clan to feel threatened.

Shi Tian wasn’t imagining it. He had felt it during that final attack. The moment Liyu’s fist collided with Guan Haoran’s... the moment that terrifying destructive force erupted... Shi Tian had sensed something that he had rarely, if ever, felt from someone of a lower cultivation realm: danger. That attack could threaten his life.

For someone at the first stage of Qi Gathering to possess enough power to accomplish something like that, just how monstrous would this person become when he reached the Qi Refining Realm? And what about after that? What would happen when he reached the Foundation Establishment Realm? What about when he stepped beyond the Mortal Stage entirely?

Shi Tian’s expression remained completely emotionless, but his mind had already reached its conclusion. This Liyu needed to die, no matter what; he must die, with no room for hesitation.

If someone with this kind of potential was allowed to grow unchecked, then one day that person might become an existence even Shi Tian would have difficulty dealing with, and Shi Tian wasn’t willing to take that risk. His dark eyes narrowed slightly. "You’re too dangerous," his voice was barely audible, "but you won’t have the chance to grow."

Meanwhile, back at the Li camp, Li Feng collapsed heavily onto his seat with a face filled with disbelief and a trace of panic hidden within his expression. He stared at Li Xie for several seconds before finally asking, "Are you really telling me that this is what happened?"

Li Xie nodded, a wide smile plastered across his face as he seemed completely thrilled. "Yes! Isn’t this good news? We’ll be able to win! There’s only one match left between us and getting that golden token!"

Li Feng didn’t answer, simply sinking deeper into his seat as his mind became a complete mess. From everything the trio had told him, the situation was roughly this: Li Yuexin had been taken out by Shi Lan after defeating Shi Meng and Guan Xueyi; after her defeat, Liyu had appeared and somehow been allowed to participate; from there, Liyu had proceeded to take down every opponent who stood in his way, one after another, even taking down the person Li Feng considered the second-most dangerous opponent on the opposing side, Guan Haoran.

He had beaten him as well, and now there was only one opponent left for Liyu to defeat before becoming the sole winner of the entire Tournaments of the great clans, securing the Li clan’s victory.

The thought should have made Li Feng incredibly happy, and in one way it did... the Guan clan had already been eliminated, the Shi clan was the only one remaining with only one fighter left standing (Shi Tian, the final opponent), and their chances of winning the tournament had never been this high.

Yet despite that, Li Feng couldn’t help feeling conflicted. Because out of everyone, of all the people who could have stepped forward and carried the Li clan forward when they were facing certain defeat, why did it have to be Liyu? Why him?

His gaze slowly locked onto the figure sitting on the stage, where Liyu was there with a small, excited smile on his face, seemingly completely unaware of the storm currently brewing inside Li Feng’s mind.

Li Feng stared at him. "But how...?" His voice was barely above a whisper. From everything Li Feng had heard, Liyu hadn’t simply defeated Shi Lan... he had taken down Guan Jian, Guan Feng, Shi Mo, and even Guan Haoran. Five people.

Liyu alone had already managed to take down five opponents, and every single one of them had been far, far superior to him in terms of cultivation level.

Yet Liyu had defeated them almost as if they weren’t supposed to be the ones defeating him in the first place, as if the difference in cultivation between them didn’t matter, and as if the rules that applied to everyone else simply didn’t apply to him. It didn’t make any sense to Li Feng. Not at all.

"How the hell has Liyu grown this much?" Li Feng’s fingers tightened against the armrest. He couldn’t understand it, genuinely couldn’t, because he remembered what Liyu had been. He remembered it clearly: Liyu wasn’t even a cultivator two months ago.

No... it hadn’t even been that long. A little over a month ago, Liyu had still been nothing more than a mundane person, a normal human being who could have been easily defeated with nothing more than a casual sweep of Li Feng’s arm.

Back then, if Li Feng had wanted to defeat Liyu, he wouldn’t even have needed to use his full strength; he could have crushed him with ease.

And yet now, that same Liyu was sitting on the stage after defeating one genius after another. He had survived battles that should have been completely impossible, defeated opponents several realms above himself, and even unleashed an attack powerful enough to bring Guan Haoran, who had entered the legendary Overflow state, to the brink of death... and somehow, he was perfectly fine.

Li Feng’s gaze trembled. The more he thought about it, the more absurd it became. Just a while ago, he had been a weak human with a broken Spirit Root; that was Liyu, the same Liyu everyone knew as the one who had been scorned, ridiculed, and called a failure heir by almost everyone.

And yet, how? How had he gone from that weakling to this? How had that useless, broken-spirit-root failure suddenly become someone whose name was being chanted by the crowd, louder and louder with every passing second?

Even the title they had given him made Li Feng’s body twitch with clear irritation: The Honored One. Why the hell was he called the Honored One? Such a grand and prestigious title for a loser like him? What the hell was happening here?

Li Feng’s hand dipped into his own hair as he rubbed his head, desperately trying to calm himself down, but nothing worked. The more he thought about it, the more his mind felt as if it were about to break, almost as though he were losing his mind because of the sheer nonsense he had woken up to.

Liyu was supposed to be a weakling; that was how it was supposed to be, and he was supposed to be the stronger one.

While Liyu had been scorned by everyone and locked himself inside his room refusing to talk to anyone, Li Feng had been busy acquiring knowledge, sharpening his sword skills, trying to become better, and better than that again until eventually becoming the best version of himself.

That had been his path, dedicated to endless training, countless hours of practice, sweat, pain, blood, and effort... everything he had done for the sake of forging himself into the perfect warrior.

And yet, after all of that, after all the endless training and every ounce of effort he had poured into himself, he was now supposed to stomach the fact that Liyu... that Liyu who had once been nothing more than a weak, mundane human, the failure heir, the disgraceful cousin with a broken Spirit Root... was now supposed to be stronger than him.

Far stronger, even, otherwise how else could he explain what he had just witnessed? How else could someone like Liyu have taken down Shi Lan and four other powerful opponents as if they were nothing?

And the most important thing Li Feng had to take into consideration was the fact that this wasn’t some isolated victory: Liyu had fought again and again and again, match after match, battle after battle, opponent after opponent, some of whom Li Feng himself found difficult to believe could be defeated by someone at Liyu’s cultivation level.

Yet Liyu had defeated them anyway, doing the impossible over and over again, and after all those battles, he was still unharmed.

Li Feng’s gaze slowly searched through Liyu’s body, his expression becoming even more complicated. Perfect. Pristine. There wasn’t even the slightest hint of serious injury anywhere on his body... no blood covering him, no broken bones, no visible wounds, nothing.

He looked absolutely nothing like someone who had just fought four terrifying battles against overwhelming opponents; instead, Liyu looked as though he had simply returned from watching a movie at the cinema and had sat down to relax afterward.

That realization made Li Feng’s body twitch for the third time, his teeth clenching and his mind once again screaming the same question: Just how the hell had he become this powerful? How? How was someone who had been a mundane human not long ago suddenly capable of accomplishing all of this?

Li Feng was in turmoil, his thoughts a complete mess as he simply stared at Liyu for several seconds. Then another thought struck him, and the moment it did, his already terrible mood sank even deeper into pain, sorrow, and a bitter feeling that spread through his chest.

*He’s stronger than me now...* Li Feng’s hands slowly clenched. *And he’s the one winning once again.*

His gaze dropped toward his own hands, staring at them silently before slowly looking back toward Liyu with gritted teeth. "Why...?" His voice was barely audible. "Why, after all this time, does it feel as if I’ll never be able to shine like him?" His fingers tightened. "He always overshadowed me."

Over and over again, every time. "I thought things would finally change in this tournament." His gaze trembled. "When I even entered the State of Flow, I was almost certain of my victory." His memories flashed through his mind... the confidence, the excitement, the certainty that this time he would finally prove himself.

And yet, his hand grabbed his clothes tighter, "And yet..." his voice became low, deep, and haunting, "...I lost."

The words seemed to weigh heavily on him. Li Feng’s body shook slightly; tears threatened to spill from his eyes, but he forcefully contained them, refusing to let them fall or break down here. He simply remained seated, his fists clenched tightly as he fought against the emotions raging inside him. *Why am I always losing?*

The thought emerged from the deepest part of his heart as he slowly raised his gaze once more. Liyu was still sitting on the marble stage... calm, relaxed, completely unaffected. *And why is he always winning?*

Meanwhile, back on the stage, Liyu was finally done with his shopping. After making sure he had gotten everything he wanted... or at least everything he could reasonably use for the upcoming battle... he closed the system panel, slowly rose from the ground, and stretched lazily.

His body made several faint cracking sounds as he moved his shoulders and loosened himself.

"Haa..." Liyu exhaled lightly. The previous battle had been intense, but now he was ready. There was only one opponent left, and that opponent was already waiting.

Liyu’s relaxed expression suddenly changed as his gaze shifted. Across the arena, his eyes locked directly onto another pair of eyes: Shi Tian. The Devil of the Shi clan had already been looking at him, and the two gazes met across the distance, neither side looking away. For several seconds, the arena seemed to fall strangely quiet around them.

Liyu’s lips slowly curled upward, a deadly yet playful grin appearing across his face as he could already feel the atmosphere changing. The final opponent was right there, the last obstacle standing between him and victory. Liyu tilted his head slightly, then spoke.

"Well..." His grin widened. "I don’t really think I need to call you now, do I?" His eyes blink playfully. "After all..." He gestured casually toward Shi Tian. "You’re the only one left." A brief pause. "But if you want me to do you the honor..." Liyu shrugged. "Okay." His smile became even wider. "I’ll do that as well."

He straightened his body, his gaze becoming sharp. "Okay then, Shi Tian." The playful smile remained on his face. "Come onto the stage."
