Chapter 2136: Chapter 2132: Took Poison
Ziyun Teng knew that back in the day, Wu Muchou’s father had served as the City Lord of Coastal City, and she had deep feelings for this city.
"Greetings, senior. My name is Tang Ming, a Tribute of the Huan Die Sect."
Tang Ming smiled at Ziyun Teng.
The handsome young man next to Ziyun Teng snorted coldly, "So, you’re just another hypocrite lusting after beauty. I always thought, cousin, that your standards were high enough not to get involved with Huan Die Sect’s Tributes. Yet, you ended up taking this step."
"Wu Hong, shut up."
Wu Muchou raised an eyebrow; she knew very well what kind of person Tang Ming was.
Wu Hong speaking like this about Tang Ming would undoubtedly cause misunderstanding towards the Wu Family, given Tang Ming’s temperament.
However, contrary to Wu Muchou’s expectations, Tang Ming nodded in agreement: "Mo Chou, I think your cousin is right. All those Tributes of Huan Die Sect join because they’re captivated by the disciples’ beauty."
"Oh, I really didn’t expect Tang Tribute to be such an honest villain, openly sharing his intentions with my sister. As her brother, I have no choice but to have a proper chat with you."
Wu Hong stood up, looking at Tang Ming with curiosity and disdain.
Tang Ming patted Wu Muchou’s shoulder to reassure her: "How coincidental, it’s really dull here, so why not take a walk with you outside."
After giving Wu Muchou a reassuring look, Tang Ming followed Wu Hong out of the City Lord Mansion.
Coastal City is vast, with the City Lord Mansion situated in the northeast, adjacent to the pier of the Lost Sea. Most ships coming and going would dock here.
Contrary to Tang Ming’s expectation for provocation, Wu Hong instead acted like a courteous host.
He brought Tang Ming to the largest tavern in Coastal City, especially finding a private room and ordering a table full of good dishes.
"Tang Ming Tribute probably hasn’t tasted such delicious food. These are all specialties from the Lost Sea, and these dishes are my cousin’s favorites. I can tell she has a good impression of you. However, I don’t think you two are suitable."
Wu Hong drank a sip of wine, speaking with confidence.
Tang Ming raised an eyebrow slightly, "I seem to have told you before, Mo Chou and I are just ordinary friends."
"Ordinary friends? Everyone pursuing my sister says that. All for her Phoenix Body, right? Let me tell you, my sister will only marry a strong figure from the royal or large families, and a Tribute from a cultivator sect like you isn’t worthy of her."
Wu Hong confidently looked at Tang Ming.
Tang Ming put down his wine glass: "If you keep talking like this, then there’s nothing for us to discuss. Once again, Mo Chou and I are just ordinary friends. And next time, don’t poison the wine. The poison you used is cold-type, and the wine is warm-type. Wine can disperse poison, and also dilutes it."
Wu Hong was surprised by Tang Ming’s words. Seeing Tang Ming pour his wine onto the floor, his pupils contracted.
"Someone, get your manager here."
Wu Hong angrily slammed the table and stood up.
The door to the private room opened, and a servant rushed in, flustered, "Young master, what happened?"
"Where’s your manager?"
Wu Hong’s eyes widened, no longer the previously refined demeanor.
Coastal City is Wu Family’s domain, and this largest tavern also belongs to the Wu Family.
The eighth young master of the Wu Family inviting guests to dine in his own family’s tavern only to encounter poisoning—it would be a laughingstock in the entire Qingfeng Dynasty if word got out.
Tang Ming remained silent, for the poison for him was just a tonic. He revealed it only to know who wanted to target him.
If the Wu Family acted against him due to his closeness with Wu Muchou, he wouldn’t hesitate to leave the Wu Family.
"The manager is upstairs, someone has already gone to summon him."
The servant kept her head down, though her gaze fell on Tang Ming.
Tang Ming slowly stood up: "Wu Hong, no need to look for the manager, the one who did it is probably her. Tell us, who commanded you."
Tang Ming reached out and directly grabbed the maid’s throat, and as she struggled, blood oozed from her lips.
"Took poison?"
Wu Hong looked at the maid in surprise. She coughed twice before closing her eyes.
"This is just a petty trick, but since she’s a servant of this tavern, you should be able to uncover some clues."
Tang Ming glanced at Wu Hong’s wine glass, noticing that his wine was not poisoned, clearly indicating the poisoning was specifically targeting him.
Wu Hong took a deep breath; "Rest assured, I will give you an explanation."
Tang Ming smiled and sat down, pouring a drink for himself: "Then I’ll wait for young master Wu to give me an explanation."
Wu Hong looked outside the door; the manager of the tavern arrived belatedly and bowed to Wu Hong in panic, "Young master, I really had no idea about this."
"I haven’t even asked you what it is, and you say you didn’t know. Do you take me for a fool?"
Wu Hong grabbed the manager’s collar, his face twisting with anger.
The manager swallowed hard, his gaze landing on Tang Ming: "Young master, Second Young Master instructed this. I think it’s best you don’t get involved."
"Second Brother."
Wu Hong’s pupils contracted; his second brother, Wu Ying, not only possessed greater prowess than him but was also the current Regent King’s son-in-law.
In the Wu Family, Wu Ying’s status surpassed his.
Tang Ming had only just returned to Coastal City with Wu Muchou and already provoked Wu Ying; this young man’s head was indeed hard as iron.
"Indeed, Second Master was here just now. But when you sent someone to summon me, Second Master left with his guest."
The manager pointed to a window not far away.
Wu Hong turned back to glance at Tang Ming, then walked to the window of the private room.
Tang Ming came over to Wu Hong’s side and looked out, and sure enough, there were two people just getting downstairs. One of them even waved at Wu Hong upon noticing their gaze.
"Get lost."
Wu Hong angrily glared at the manager, then looked at Tang Ming.
Tang Ming returned to his seat and poured himself another glass of wine.
Wu Hong knocked on the table, irritated, "You’re still in the mood to drink. Do you know what status my second brother holds?"
"A member of the Wu Family, your second brother."
Tang Ming put down his glass, sneering.
"My second brother is the current Regent King’s son-in-law. If there’s any misunderstanding between you two, you’d better clear it up soon, to keep things from getting unpleasant. I can act as a mediator, how about that?"
Wu Hong looked at Tang Ming, for since Tang Ming was a guest of the Wu Family in Coastal City, being poisoned in the Wu Family’s tavern by one of the Wu Family didn’t sit well regardless of how it was viewed.
