Chapter 2139: Chapter 2135: Courting Disaster
Wu Muchou’s brow furrowed: "Tell me, where did Tang Ming go, why did you come back alone."
"How should I know where he went, his legs are his own. I’m telling you, sis, don’t worry about him, that kid is cunning. Even Second Brother wanted to take action but he managed to escape."
A drunken Wu Hong waved his hand and then headed towards the backyard.
Wu Muchou’s face changed dramatically; when her Master entrusted Tang Ming to her, they explained very clearly. Tang Ming might not be frightening, but the Hu Meier behind Tang Ming was not someone to be trifled with.
"Wu Hong, come back here."
Wu Muchou raised her voice a notch. The guards in the courtyard and Wu Hong all turned their attention to her.
Wu Muchou pointed at Wu Hong: "Explain clearly to me, what did Wu Ying do to Tang Ming? You are inviting disaster upon the Wu Family, you know?"
"Sis, isn’t he just your friend? He came to Coastal City to hide from Qingfeng Can, what’s he capable of? If such a person dies, then he dies; it’s got nothing to do with us. Don’t you worry."
Wu Hong said indifferently.
But Wu Muchou’s voice raised another notch: "Wu Hong, don’t act dumb. If Tang Ming wasn’t important, would my Master have asked me to bring him to Coastal City? I haven’t been back in years."
Wu Hong quivered, his drunken state suddenly sobered halfway: "Sis, did I really cause any trouble? Who exactly is that Tang Ming? I even said I’d speak well to Second Brother for him, hoping they’d reconcile. Now what do we do."
Wu Hong started recounting Tang Ming’s story to Wu Muchou. Meanwhile, Tang Ming was at the Wu Family’s separate courtyard’s dining hall helping Li He sort the Spirit Grass.
Upon entering the dining hall of the Wu Family’s separate courtyard, Tang Ming regretted it; he had wasted his Spirit Stones as the hall had every kind of Spirit Grass available.
Moreover, aside from the nourishing ones, most of these Spirit Grasses were poisonous.
"Since you understand Spiritual Medicine, handle these for me. In a while, I need to make a pot of soup for the Young Master and Young Madam. Afterward, you should take it to them."
Li He sat on a nearby rattan chair, fan in hand.
Tang Ming’s eyes brightened; he knew his chance had come. He picked up a few herbs that Li He needed and began preparing them according to Li He’s instructions.
Soon, an old lady entered the kitchen, leaning on her cane.
"Old Li, is the soup for tonight ready?"
The old lady glanced at Tang Ming dealing with the herbs and asked.
Li He stood up from his rattan chair: "Not yet. Why? Does the Young Madam have orders?"
"Yes. The Young Madam’s brother decided not to leave and returned. Tonight’s dinner is up to you again, Old Li."
White Granny smiled as she looked at Li He.
Li He fetched a small box from a nearby cupboard, filled with exquisite herbal rice cakes.
"Grandma, you work hard. As usual, this is for you to eat. Tell the Young Madam not to worry; I’m no good with other things. But when it comes to cooking, I can ensure the guests are satisfied."
Li He scratched his bald head and chuckled.
White Granny nodded, leaving the back kitchen with her cane. Watching her disappearing figure, Li He sneered: "The old hag flaunting her power, always coming here to extort some good stuff from me. Isn’t it odd? Qingfeng Can has so many affairs, why hasn’t he left Coastal City?"
"Old Li, is the Qingfeng Can you mentioned the Regent King’s treasured son?"
The burly man carrying firewood looked up at Li He.
Li He nodded with a smile: "Correct. That boy is cunning; he’s the child of Qingfeng Bailong Prince and a maid. Often hungry as a kid, he frequently came to me. Come, you two should meet. This is the kitchen’s odd-job man named Xia Liu, just call him Old Six."
"Hi, Old Six. I’m Sun Zhuangjia, the newly recruited kitchen assistant by Old Li."
Tang Ming didn’t reveal his real name to Li He and Xia Liu, instead using his senior brother Sun Zhuangjia’s name.
"Brother Sun, nice to meet you. I’m a blunt person, only familiar with cultivation and monster hunting. Since you’re Old Li’s assistant cook, we’re among friends."
Xia Liu smiled and nodded at Tang Ming, while Tang Ming took the opportunity as Li He was inattentive to prepare other Spiritual Medicines.
Qingfeng Ziyun’s dinner consisted of twelve dishes and three soups, totaling sixteen items with staples included.
In each dish, Li He would incorporate some nourishing herbs. Tang Ming noticed while standing behind Li He; these nourishing herbs were somehow all used to neutralize toxins.
Could it be that either Wu Ying or Qingfeng Ziyun was slowly poisoned, requiring this method for resolution? If that’s indeed the case, then when poisoning, one must employ some thought.
With the dishes and soup all ready, Li He took out the prepared meal boxes. These boxes were Magic Treasures, each engraved with a formation.
Utilizing these meal boxes for storing dishes ensured the food retained its flavor; they could be stored in a Storage Ring and remain in a state ready to serve directly on the table, a privilege only enjoyed by members of prominent families in Taoyuan World.
"This is the Jade Skin Nine Squid Soup, a favorite of the Young Master and Young Madam. Zhuangjia, check the heat, I’ll attend to the Burned Bird Nourishing Kidney Soup over there."
Li He pointed at the soup pot in front of him and walked to another side.
Tang Ming nodded and approached the soup pot. Seeing that Li He wasn’t watching, he dropped a red fruit into the soup pot.
The previously simmering soup began bubbling vigorously, emitting a rich aroma that’s utterly enchanting.
Tang Ming’s lips curled slightly; this red fruit is called Blood Pearl Fruit, a Spirit Medicine for whetting appetites.
Before, Tang Ming ate one alone and found that it inherently wasn’t toxic, but when combined with the nourishing Spirit Medicines Li He used in other dishes, a toxic reaction occurred.
This toxic reaction isn’t intense; it lurks, gradually deteriorating the poisoned individual’s body.
The most potent poison is akin to slowly boiling a frog. Anyone who messes with Tang Ming deserves their retribution; since they enjoy soup, they should drink plenty.
"How’s it going, is the soup ready?"
Li He turned around and came over, stirring the soup with a ladle and showing a satisfied smile: "Not bad, not bad. You seem to have quite the talent for cooking."
"I’m greedy, used to cook for myself often. Old Li, you’re very skilled; I picked up a lot of techniques just by watching from behind."
Tang Ming smiled at Li He, admitting that although this old man was somewhat lazy and looked intimidating, he indeed possessed some skills.
