Chapter 2152: Chapter 2148: Resting on the Island
Walking onto the bridge, Tang Ming finally realized that the words of the city guard weren’t entirely baseless. A lone person walking on the coastal bridge was truly eye-catching, especially with Tang Ming’s attire, which attracted even more attention.
"Brother, you really dare to go to Hailong City alone, huh."
Dressed in neat leather armor, a white Feathered Shawl, and with a Magical Treasure Long Sword at his waist, Ying Chou approached Tang Ming.
Tang Ming glanced at him and the Warhawk Mercenary Group behind him and nodded slightly, "Hailong City is no dragon’s lair or tiger’s den. Why wouldn’t I dare to go alone? Unless you’re saying I’m not worthy of Hailong City or that Hailong City doesn’t welcome me."
Tang Ming’s words made Ying Chou burst into laughter, "See this? Doesn’t this little brother remind you of me back in the day? Judging by your bone age, you’ve only been in the Taoyuan World for a few months, you must be an Ascender."
Tang Ming’s pupils contracted; he didn’t expect Ying Chou to be able to tell that he was an Ascender. Previously, neither Hu Mei’er nor Wu Muchou had recognized him as one.
"Don’t worry, I’m an Ascender too. Come with us. You’ll be a stranger in Hailong City, but if you follow me, I can introduce you to a job there. At least it will help you earn a meal in Hailong City."
Ying Chou patted Tang Ming’s shoulder.
Tang Ming’s gaze held hesitation, but in the end, he nodded, "Thank you."
"No need to thank me, we’re all just trying to make our way from nothing. But, brother, once you descended from the Ascension Platform, there should’ve been plenty of places recruiting, right? Didn’t you join a Sect? How did you end up in such a remote area like the Qingfeng Dynasty?"
As Ying Chou walked with Tang Ming towards Hailong City, he casually probed Tang Ming’s story.
Tang Ming’s eyes slightly lifted; Ascenders are supposed to enter the Taoyuan World via the Ascension Platform, but when he appeared in Taoyuan World, he wasn’t on the platform, but in the Wilderness.
If it weren’t for the Lingwei tribe who found him, he probably would’ve been eaten by a Desert Beast.
"I offended someone in the Sect and escaped on my own,"
Tang Ming finally spoke after a long silence.
Standing beside Tang Ming, Ying Chou’s eyes sharpened, "Seems like you’re no ordinary person, brother. To escape from a sect so easily, you must have learned some good skills in the Lower Realm, right?"
"There’s nothing special about those skills. They didn’t value me because I didn’t have any remarkable talents. Otherwise, do you think I could’ve escaped?"
Tang Ming grinned, but his gaze fell on a fork in the road not far away.
Walking across this bridge leading to Hailong City would take a whole day unless one uses some speed-enhancing Cultivation Technique.
However, once a Cultivation Technique is used, it could make the bridge even more congested. So, the bridge builder of the Jiulong Dynasty simply set up a Formation on the bridge; unless one’s strength reaches the Nascent Soul Stage, they can’t employ any Immortal Power.
"Let’s go; let’s rest on the small island."
Ying Chou glanced at the elder beside him, who nodded and then went to the back to discuss setting up camp with the members of the Warhawk Demon Hunting Team.
Camps are not allowed on the bridge. Ying Chou led Tang Ming to the small island below the fork in the road.
There are many such small islands, most can only accommodate around fifty people.
The Warhawk Demon Hunting Team consisted of forty-seven people, and including Tang Ming, that made forty-eight, just enough to station on one island.
The tents were quickly set up. Feeling the nourishment of Immortal Energy, Tang Ming stretched and let his gaze fall on the camp stove nearby.
"You guys eat this?"
Tang Ming pointed to the dried rations and vegetables placed in the camp stove with a frown.
The elder following Ying Chou smiled and said, "This is pretty good already. Demon Hunting Team members are out and about, no time for such fuss. For us, being full and having Immortal Energy for recovery is what counts as good."
Tang Ming nodded thoughtfully, his eyes scanning over the island; this island was not desolate, as there were some shrubs around.
"Wait here, I’ll make you something good."
Tang Ming headed for the shrubs at the island’s edge.
Ying Chou came over to the side, "Uncle Meng, what’s that kid up to?"
"Said he wants to make something good for us. Who knew this guy’s a cook as well."
Tie Shan wore a faint smile. If Ying Chou hadn’t insisted on bringing Tang Ming along, he wouldn’t have given him a second glance.
A lone ranger of this strength, even if an Ascender, was a self-destructive waste.
Among Ascenders, many are self-destructive. Most of the Ascenders in the Lower Realm were heroes who could Speak and Follow. Some were even the masters of their planetary Plane.
But after ascending to the Taoyuan World, they became the lowest tier in this world.
Large sects in the Taoyuan World see these people as potential talents, but their inner pride distances them from the sect’s core, eventually becoming the most despised bottom-feeders in the sect.
Tang Ming reached the shrubs and picked a few wild fruits. Taking a bite, he found them sour and astringent. No one would want to eat them raw.
Yet Tang Ming picked many of these fruits and put them all into his Storage Ring.
In no time, Tang Ming returned to the Warhawk Demon Hunting Team’s assembly.
A pot was set up again since Tang Ming said he would make something delicious for them. So everyone waited there instead of eating the dried rations prepared earlier.
After all, the Demon Hunting Team members, when out, had consumed enough dried rations to last a lifetime.
Even when dried rations were later mixed with some dried vegetables and jerky, it still couldn’t satisfy their appetite.
"Brother, you can cook?"
Ying Chou walked over to Tang Ming, smiling.
Tang Ming nodded, "I wouldn’t call it cooking. You guys in the Demon Hunting Team run around all year, so I’ll make you some Medicinal Food."
Lighting the fire under the stove, Tang Ming reached out, throwing a snakefish covered with diamond-shaped scales into the boiling water.
The snakefish struggled fiercely, churning the pot’s water until it became murky.
"These things are all over the coast, spicy and fishy, even Demon Beasts with Spiritual Wisdom won’t eat them. Why did you bring it back?"
Ying Chou looked at Tang Ming in surprise.
Tang Ming smiled and said, "You haven’t tasted what I cooked yet, so how do you know it won’t be any good? You’ll find out soon."
