Chapter 522 - 521: Demon Beast Cage

Chapter 522: Chapter 521: Demon Beast Cage

Before them, over a thousand Demon Beasts were locked in cages. This place was one giant cage, imprisoning them all. The variety of Demon Beasts was immense. From intelligent Phoenixes and Giant Dragons to unintelligent tigers and giant bears, all of them were held captive here.

The sight of over a thousand Demon Beasts was truly spectacular. More importantly, their cultivation levels were not low; they were all at the Core Transformation Stage or higher, and some had even reached the Void Spirit Stage.

As they burst in, they discovered several Cultivators continuously tossing Spirit Medicine out of their Storage Rings to feed the Demon Beasts. It was clear they were being raised in captivity, nurtured to grow ever stronger.

Trapped inside, the Demon Beasts either refused the food or obediently ate it. For those that refused, the Cultivators would force their way into the cages and shove the Spirit Medicine down their throats.

Dealing with the obedient ones was much simpler; the food was just tossed into their cages for them to eat at their leisure.

"More Spirit Medicine already? I’ll come get it... Who are you!?" One of the keepers inside turned his head and froze upon seeing four strangers.

Yi Tianyun and his companions’ eyes immediately turned cold. They rushed over and effortlessly struck the keepers down on the spot! The keepers’ cultivation was not high—only at the Core Transformation Stage—so they offered no resistance and were killed with ease.

The Demon Beasts were so heavily restrained that they couldn’t even commit suicide. Thus, there was no need for powerful experts to act as keepers; besides, such individuals wouldn’t want this kind of job anyway.

’I thought this place was a treasury, but it looks like we were wrong. This isn’t a treasury at all, but a pen full of captive Demon Beasts. It seems they want to tame them and turn them into an army!’ Yi Tianyun was inwardly shocked. He had expected to plunder a huge stash of Spirit Medicine, only to find a breeding ground.

The intelligence hadn’t been wrong, exactly. It looked like there was a lot of Spirit Medicine here, but it was all just being shipped in to feed the huge horde of Demon Beasts. Only through long-term feeding could they be tamed.

"Yes, and there’s some kind of poison here... a poison to tame them," Elder Luo said, having spotted vats of liquid lined up nearby. Many Spirit Medicines, or Elixir Pills, were soaking inside.

Only after being soaked was the medicine given to the beasts to consume. It seemed most of the Demon Beasts no longer needed to be force-fed; they must have been gradually tamed by this poison, making them willing to eat the Spirit Medicine thrown to them.

Demon Beasts at the Core Transformation Stage or higher, no matter how unintelligent, would fiercely resent being imprisoned. Resistance was inevitable; they would rather die than surrender their dignity.

However, after being force-fed the poison, they were gradually tamed. To enhance the effect, they were undoubtedly made to consume more of it.

Yi Tianyun glanced over, and detailed information appeared before his eyes.

Charm Poison: After long-term consumption, it can control the mind of a human or Demon Beast, making them obey the user’s commands. Side effect: Drastically reduces lifespan and makes the subject prone to an early death.

This poison was truly potent, but its effects only manifested gradually after long-term use. Most creatures would be able to sense something was wrong with it, which was why it had to be force-fed at the beginning.

"Well, we didn’t find a treasury, but we certainly found a Demon Beast Library," Yi Tianyun said, his expression darkening. This was a significant deviation from the intelligence they had received.

’Come to think of it, the Celestial Nether Altar is hardly their headquarters, so it’s normal that no real Treasure would be hidden here. The place where the true Treasures are hidden must be the Celestial Nether Imperial City, not this Celestial Nether Altar.’

It was just that the initial intelligence, which mentioned frequent shipments of Spirit Medicine to this location, was easily misinterpreted as this being a Spirit Medicine vault. Raiding such a vault and seizing its massive resources would have been a great way to strengthen their own forces.

While strengthening themselves, they could have also dealt a heavy blow to the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom. It would have been killing two birds with one stone.

Unfortunately, there was only a horde of Demon Beasts here, not the trove of Spirit Medicine they were hoping for. However, there was still a fair amount of Spirit Medicine lying around—the portions that hadn’t yet been soaked in the poison. In fact, the quantity wasn’t small.

With so many Demon Beasts to feed, the required amount of Spirit Medicine had to be substantial, necessitating a constant supply from the outside.

"The intelligence was flawed. It seems we came all this way for nothing," Elder Lei sighed. Although there was some Spirit Medicine here, it was far less than they had imagined.

"It won’t be a wasted trip. This is all the fruit of their hard labor. If we release these beasts or kill them all, then all the effort they poured into cultivating them will go down the drain," Shopkeeper Ye said, offering his own idea. "So many of these Demon Beasts are almost completely tamed. We could never re-tame them for ourselves, not without spending an immense amount of time, and the price would be steep."

"Therefore, the best option is to release them. Let them rampage freely, or force their own masters to deal with them. We don’t know how long it took them to raise so many nearly-tamed Demon Beasts, but it must have come at an exorbitant price."

The higher the cultivation, the longer the taming process! If these Demon Beasts were successfully turned into an army, their combat effectiveness would be terrifying. An army where every soldier is at the Core Transformation Stage would be an absolutely powerful force.

"There’s no need for that. Just leave these Demon Beasts to me."

Yi Tianyun looked up at the horde of Demon Beasts, a thrill of excitement growing within him. For the others, the only options were to drive them out to sow chaos or to kill them.

’To him, however, such actions would be an enormous waste. He could use his pet-capturing ability to claim them, and they would be absolutely loyal! In that case, he could form an extremely powerful force within his own Empire.’

Over a thousand Demon Beasts, all at the Core Transformation Stage or higher—how could his heart not race at the prospect?

"You’ll take care of them? You mean, kill them?" Although they couldn’t bear to do it, they knew they had no way of taking these already-tamed Demon Beasts with them. It was simply too difficult.

They couldn’t stuff a horde of Demon Beasts into a Storage Ring. A Storage Ring simply couldn’t hold living creatures, only dead ones. Most Storage Rings could only contain inanimate objects; living beings were out of the question.

"Of course not. I’ll just take them with me. That way, the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom will suffer a massive loss," Yi Tianyun said, his eyes lighting up. To him, this place was a great treasury after all.

"Take them with you? Don’t tell me you have a Storage Ring that can hold living creatures?" they all asked in astonishment. Such rings weren’t incredibly Rare, but their internal space was typically very small. The difficulty of crafting one was far greater than that of a normal Storage Ring, making them incredibly hard to produce.

"Something like that," Yi Tianyun said as he flew over. He instructed them, "You all go scout the situation outside. I’ll collect these Demon Beasts!"

"No problem!" They exchanged glances. Since Yi Tianyun had said as much, they would leave it to him.

It was for the best if they didn’t have to kill the beasts. That was, after all, a choice born of desperation. If they didn’t kill them now, this very army would one day descend upon their Phoenix Race!
