Chapter 547: Chapter 546: My Turf
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, nearly a week had passed. The Ascension Divine Altar was also known as the Celestial Nether Altar. Its true name was the Ascension Divine Altar, but since the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom had claimed it for their own, it was renamed the Celestial Nether Altar.
This led many to mistakenly believe that such a magnificent structure had been built by the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom itself.
Currently, the Ascension Divine Altar was surrounded by a large number of Cultivators from the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom. They had searched it inside and out, so thoroughly that they nearly tore the whole place apart.
It seemed as if all of their Spirit King Stage experts had been deployed to lock the area down. The strongest among them was even at the peak of the stage, a terrifyingly powerful presence. A Saint King Stage expert had also been dispatched and was now stationed inside the Ascension Divine Altar.
He was not the Saint Master, but the National Preceptor of the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom—the most powerful individual under the Saint Master’s command. He was also a formidable Divine Rune Master. While not at the level of a Creator, he had at least reached the rank of Divine Rune Grandmaster, specifically a Life Pointing Level Divine Rune Grandmaster.
Reaching the Creator level of a Divine Rune Master was an exceedingly difficult feat. Even if his own cultivation reached the Saint Master’s level, he would still have a very long road ahead of him.
Ordinarily, the National Preceptor would not have come here. But with the unexpected appearance of an inheritance, coupled with rumors of a secret passage, he had no choice but to come in person. He began investigating every corner in detail, extending his Spiritual Sense all around him. At the slightest disturbance, he was ready to strike.
A handsome, middle-aged man’s gaze was as sharp as an arrow as he stared coldly at the walls, which were forged from Profound Gold Stone. He tried to discern some clue from the Divine Runes. ’Is there really a secret passage here that we don’t know about?’
As he walked, he tapped repeatedly on the walls, searching for any variation. But he had been here for several days now, and despite having explored nearly every inch inside and out, he hadn’t found a single entrance.
He turned to look at the six men kneeling on the ground behind him. They were the very guards who had been on duty at the entrance. They trembled, not daring to lift their heads to look at the man before them. "You six were on guard at the time?"
"Your Excellency, National Preceptor, it was indeed the six of us guarding the entrance at the time..." one of the guards said, his voice trembling.
The middle-aged man before them was none other than the National Preceptor of the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom. He was handsome, dressed in a long robe with his hands clasped behind his back. His sharp, sword-like brows were slightly raised as he regarded them with an indifferent gaze.
"And you saw nothing at the time?" the National Preceptor asked calmly.
"Y-yes, that’s right. We saw nothing. It was no different than usual, and we didn’t sense anyone pass by... With our strength, even if a Spirit King Stage expert tried to sneak past while concealed, we would have still noticed!" they hurriedly argued.
They couldn’t afford to seem even slightly negligent, or they would be as good as dead.
"Get out!"
With a wave of his hand, the National Preceptor sent the six guards flying. They tumbled through the air several times before crashing into a wall, coughing up blood. They weren’t seriously wounded, however. It was just a minor injury, a small punishment.
"N-National Preceptor, we didn’t lie! We were truly on guard here the entire time! We didn’t do anything else, and we didn’t sense anything at all!" They were terrified. If the National Preceptor wanted them dead, nothing could stop him.
"Y-yes, that’s right! They must have snuck in through a secret passage... Our Spiritual Sense isn’t weak. We were constantly probing the surrounding area, we would never have missed anything!"
They all pleaded for their lives. They didn’t want to die. It would be a terrible injustice to be killed when they truly hadn’t seen a thing.
The National Preceptor stared at them coldly. "I was only giving you a small punishment. Whether they came through a secret passage or slipped past you right here, it doesn’t matter. As guards, allowing an enemy to get by you is, in itself, a dereliction of duty!"
The National Preceptor was well aware of the six guards’ capabilities. The area around the Ascension Divine Altar was completely barren, with no cover whatsoever. How could they not be punished for letting someone get close enough to enter a secret passage?
’However, if the intruder was a Spirit King Stage expert proficient in a Concealing Technique, it would indeed be difficult to detect them.’
"It... it was our mistake! We await the National Preceptor’s punishment!" They scrambled to their feet only to kneel before the National Preceptor once more.
At this thought, their faces paled. It was true. Even if the intruder had used a secret passage, their failure to detect any disturbance in the area was still a dereliction of duty.
Yet they could hardly be blamed; their opponent was simply too strong.
"I have already punished you. If I truly wanted to punish you, do you think you would still be alive?" the National Preceptor said coldly. "Now, get out!"
"Th-thank you, Your Excellency!"
They scrambled to their feet, bowed deeply, and then fled, not daring to linger for a second longer. If the National Preceptor changed his mind, they were dead men.
The National Preceptor, of course, had no intention of going back on his word. If the intruder’s Concealing Technique was that powerful, there was no way the guards could have seen them. Besides, killing the guards now would accomplish nothing, and it wasn’t as if they had been willfully negligent.
’A secret passage... I’ve searched the entire exterior and found nothing. Where could it be?’ The National Preceptor had already scoured the area outside but had come up empty.
All he could conclude was that the intruder knew of a secret passage that he himself did not. Little did he know that Yi Tianyun had entered using Instant Teleportation—a possibility so remote that the National Preceptor would never even consider it, no matter how hard he thought.
The most he could imagine was that the intruder had snuck in using a concealment art or used a secret passage. He simply couldn’t, and wouldn’t, consider any other possibility.
’The inheritance... this is the inheritance of a Divine King! If that brat manages to obtain it, he must not be allowed to escape!’
The National Preceptor had come in person not for revenge—the death of five Spirit King Stage experts was a trivial matter. What was most precious was the Divine King’s inheritance. For so many years, they had studied this place, yet they had never been able to successfully claim it.
Over time, the place had been all but abandoned, used merely as a trial ground for disciples. But now that the Divine King’s inheritance was being claimed, how could he, the National Preceptor, not take it seriously?
Just as he was at a loss, the entire Ascension Divine Altar began to tremble. All the Divine Runes flared to life, flashing violently as if the very mountains were shaking. The crowd of Cultivators panicked, having no idea what was happening.
Suddenly, the surrounding Divine Runes unleashed beams of light that shot out wildly. The Cultivators struck by the light cried out in agony, as if they had been scorched. They turned and fled, scrambling frantically toward the outside!
The National Preceptor waved his hand, easily deflecting the light. It had little effect on him, but it was devastating to Cultivators at the Void Spirit Stage or below. Many were badly burned. If they remained, they would surely die!
’What’s going on? Who activated this grand array... Don’t tell me that brat has successfully obtained the inheritance?’ The National Preceptor’s heart sank in alarm.
The one responsible for this, of course, was Yi Tianyun. He had instructed the Illusion Spirit to take control of the grand array and drive out all the experts from the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom.
Yi Tianyun sneered. ’My territory, and you think you can lay a finger on it?’ Although his own cultivation was insufficient, it was no problem for the Illusion Spirit to drive this crowd away.
He intended to perform a clean sweep and drive everyone from the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom out. From this day forward, no one would be able to force their way in—not even the Saint Master! The only exception would be if the Saint Master launched a frantic, all-out assault, but even then, he would only be able to scratch the surface.
This was the Celestial Altar of the Creation Celestial Divine King. How could it possibly be destroyed so easily?
