My Cultivation Has a Progress Bar
Chapter 393 - 28: Assaulting the True Yang SectAfter emerging from his seclusion, Xiao Shan Lord assigned different tasks to Wang Ping, Zi Luan, and Xiu Yu.
Xiu Yu’s mission was to crush the Court’s main army before Bin Pass and drive them out of Pingzhou Road. He was also to construct a massive divine hall for worship in Pingzhou Road. Inside this hall, a Golden Body Divine Statue of Xiao Shan Lord—over ten zhang tall—was to be enshrined to gather the providence of Zhongzhou’s eastern region.
Wang Ping’s mission was even more difficult. He was to launch an attack on True Yang Mountain via Ningzhou Road and the Liangjiang Region. He had to conquer True Yang Mountain before the new Emperor ascended the throne next year and carve two magnificent Golden Body Divine Statues into the mountainsides flanking the main peak!
Zi Luan, meanwhile, was to hold the rear and provide logistical support for the other two.
Wang Ping’s mission seemed utterly impossible, but Xiao Shan Lord told him to simply launch a conventional attack on True Yang Mountain.
In a conventional assault, True Yang Mountain was certainly no match for the current Chu regime. Ordinary Cultivators were likewise outmatched. However, in a contest between Cultivators at the Fourth Realm and above, the True Yang Sect could crush the Chu regime.
However, this was only their strength on the surface. In the shadows, many Great Cultivators likely supported Xiao Shan Lord, because the Human Dao needed a pioneer to strive for the True Monarch Position. Even some Fourth Realm Cultivators within the True Yang Sect were on Xiao Shan Lord’s side.
After this brief exchange, Xiu Yu led Qingjiang into the air and flew off toward Mozhou Road. He was clearly going to summon his disciples.
Zi Luan paid no mind to the departing Xiu Yu. He placed the Star God Core that had fallen from Yunshan’s body into his storage bag, cleared his mind of unnecessary thoughts, and looked at Wang Ping. "Shall we go to your place for a while?"
"Alright!"
Wang Ping replied, then looked at Zuo Xuan and Hu Qianqian. "You two come along as well."
...
「Qianmu Temple, Mountain Peak Dojo.」
The light, early summer rain that had been falling on the mountains vanished with Wang Ping’s return. Under a clear sky, the Stone Table in the small courtyard was now crowded with people.
Besides Zi Luan, Zuo Xuan, Hongyuan, Zhao Yu’Er, and Hu Qianqian, there were also Yu Cheng, Yuan Zheng, Wu Quan, Ganxing, Guangxuan, and the current Sect Leader of the Single Saber Sect, Qiuwang. Tianshan Daoist had taken his leave shortly after Yuan Zheng’s arrival at Qianmu Temple; he clearly had no wish to be involved in the great upheaval brewing in Zhongzhou.
"This mission of yours... is it really possible? So many masters from the Demon Realm failed to take True Yang Mountain. How can you...?" Yuan Zheng spoke without reservation, ignoring Zi Luan’s presence, and immediately questioned Xiao Shan Lord’s decision.
"The True Yang Sect lost over half of its Entering Cultivators during the war with the Demon Realm, and they likely have only half of their elite Inner Sect disciples left. If we can avoid a confrontation between the highest-level combatants, we might be able to take True Yang Mountain in just six months!"
Yu Cheng Taoist offered a fair assessment.
Wu Quan said hesitantly, "But Xiao Shan Lord wants all of True Yang Mountain. He even wants his Golden Body Divine Statues carved on either side of the main peak. Do you really think those people at the True Yang Sect will agree to that?"
His words cast a silence over the group. Hu Qianqian had been about to step forward and refill Yu Cheng Taoist’s tea, but she stopped, sensing the somber atmosphere, and abandoned the idea.
Wang Ping, the man at the center of the discussion, lifted his cup, took a sip of tea, and looked at Zuo Xuan. "I want my Command Center built in the forest north of Shangning Road. Go and make the arrangements. Also, in the name of..."
He had intended to say they should mobilize the Demon Race in the northern forests of Shangning Road in the name of the Daoist Scripture Hall. But then he remembered that the Daoist Scripture Hall now existed in name only. The Communication Tokens had completely lost contact with the north, and the Three-Seat Council could no longer convene.
"I have a proposal..."
Wang Ping looked at Zi Luan. "What if we rename the Daoist Scripture Hall the Taiyin Palace?"
Before Zi Luan could answer, Ganxing spoke up, his tone grave. "Absolutely not. I agree to restructuring the Daoist Scripture Hall, but renaming it the Taiyin Palace is inappropriate."
Wu Quan immediately chimed in. "I agree!"
Wang Ping chuckled, realizing he had been a bit presumptuous. He immediately asked, "What do you two Fellow Daoists suggest?"
"What about the Daoist Palace? It’s simple and clear," Wu Quan proposed.
"That works!" Ganxing didn’t seem to care much. As long as it wasn’t called the ’Taiyin Palace’, he would accept it.
Wang Ping and Zi Luan exchanged a look and raised no objections. Wang Ping then gave his orders to Zuo Xuan. "Go and see to this. Then, in the name of the Chu Kingdom Court, assemble the elite forces from Nanlin Road and Ningzhou Road. And in the name of the Daoist Palace, assemble the Demon Race army from the northern forests of Ningzhou Road."
He finished, then turned to Hu Qianqian. "The unit you’ve been training will serve as the vanguard!"
Zuo Xuan and Hu Qianqian accepted their orders in unison.
Wang Ping then continued his orders. "Conscript all former Sixth, Fifth, and Fourth Seat members of the Daoist Scripture Hall within the Chu Country’s borders. Have them re-register with the Daoist Palace, and then lead their disciples to the front lines!"
As Zuo Xuan accepted the command, Wang Ping turned to Zi Luan. "This will require your diplomatic skills, Fellow Daoist."
Wang Ping didn’t bother discussing whether the plan would succeed; he simply issued the commands. Whether it was possible or not, he had to step up and do everything within his power. The outcome was no longer his to worry about.
After Zuo Xuan and Hu Qianqian departed, Wang Ping looked to Zi Luan again. "If a conflict breaks out among Third Realm Cultivators, how many do you think the True Yang Sect can send?"
"No more than ten. Most of the True Yang Sect’s Third Realm Cultivators aren’t even on True Yang Mountain. Factor in the neutral parties and those who are friendly to our cause... the number they can field won’t exceed ten!"
Zi Luan stated the number with conviction.
Wang Ping’s gaze swept over those present, finally settling on Wu Quan and Ganxing. "The facts are plain to see. The True Yang Sect has long been in decline. For years, the Zhongzhou Continent has been rife with suffering and resentment, for which the True Yang Sect bears an undeniable responsibility. They have lost the hearts of the people. But we are not the Demon Realm. We... we represent a new beginning."
He said no more. There was no grandstanding, as everyone present was an old monster who had lived for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. They couldn’t be swayed by a few inspirational platitudes. He only needed to make the stakes and potential gains clear.
"I have one small request," Wu Quan said, setting down his teacup.
"Let’s hear it."
"When we conquer True Yang Mountain, I want the task of carving Xiao Shan Lord’s statues on the main peak to be handled by my disciples. How about it?"
...
"No problem."
"Furthermore, we’ll also take care of leveling the other mountain ranges," Wu Quan added.
"Done."
’I thought Wu Quan was about to make some exorbitant demand, but it’s only this,’ Wang Ping thought, breathing a sigh of relief.
Ganxing quickly made his own request. "I’ve heard there is Celestial Fire suitable for forging Magical Artifacts beneath the True Yang Sect’s mountain range. Our Loose Cultivator Alliance requires one."
Before Wang Ping could respond to this request, Zi Luan interjected, "The distribution of the ’Celestial Fire’ will be determined by each faction’s contribution. Besides, their Celestial Fire contains a ’Fire Spirit’ and is useless without a powerful Sealing Array!"
For a long while after, Wang Ping and the others hashed out the distribution of spoils for after the war. When they concluded, both Wu Quan and Ganxing departed in high spirits.
As Zi Luan was leaving, he reminded Wang Ping, "You have the Pocket World Mirror, and you’ve nearly finished integrating the Heaven-Reaching Talisman during your seclusion. If you can take one more step and advance your Taiyan Cultivation to the ’Wu’ realm, your power among Third Realm Cultivators will rank in the top one hundred."
