Wang Ping waved his hand, dispersing the cold wind howling across the mountaintop. His hearing sharpened. He wondered if he had misheard, but a quick review with his Primordial Spirit confirmed he had not.
’This is impossible!’
It was Hu Qianqian’s voice. As she spoke, the fluffy tail wrapped around her waist stood straight up, its fur bristling. "You don’t have a single trace of the Demon Race’s bloodline in you."
After her involuntary outburst, she twitched her ears, wrapped her bristling tail back around her waist, and bowed to Wang Ping. "I have been rude, Master. I am ready for my punishment."
Wang Ping gave a slight wave of his hand. It wasn’t just Hu Qianqian; he had nearly lost control of his own emotions as well.
Yu Lian descended from under the eaves on a cloud and circled Xuanling twice. Her vertical pupils scrutinized him before she spoke, "I don’t see anything special about you!"
"Aunt Yu Lian, I honestly don’t know what’s special about me. I am only relaying the matter entrusted to me by the Lord. Everything is for Master to decide." Xuanling bowed deeply to Wang Ping. Although this was his first time leaving his mountain home, hundreds of years of cultivation had granted him wisdom far beyond that of an ordinary person. He merely lacked worldly ties; he was not a fool.
Wang Ping’s Primordial Spirit Consciousness spread out, sensing the other Third Realm Cultivators nearby and all the changes in the world around them. "I plan to place the Demon Gathering Banner beneath the new True Yang Mountain, suppressed by the Earth Cave Sect’s Mountain Suppressing Technique. What do you think?"
"I will follow all of Master’s arrangements."
Xuanling’s expression remained placid.
Wang Ping’s gaze then fell upon Liu Shuang, and then to Hu Qianqian. The two disciples nodded in understanding, bowed, and departed.
"You will do your practice here tonight. First, I will examine your cultivation."
After speaking, Wang Ping entered a meditative state. Xuanling bowed silently, sat down on the ground, and soon entered a state of meditation as well.
Yu Lian sized up Xuanling once more, but still found nothing out of the ordinary.
「Half an Hour later.」
Wang Ping opened his eyes, emerging from his meditation. His Primordial Spirit sensed the Wood Spirit Qi surrounding Xuanling, and he immediately understood the young man’s current cultivation level.
He had likely just entered the Second Realm and was still in the process of fusing with the Locust Tree Divine Soul.
Only...
He was fusing with the Locust Tree Divine Soul just like that—with neither the aid of an Array nor a Sacred Heart Pill to help him suppress the violent, negative emotions within it.
’So this is what’s so amazing about him?’ Yu Lian communicated with Wang Ping inside his Spirit Sea.
’Amazing doesn’t even begin to describe it. The stability of his emotions and his soul is several times greater than even yours. This isn’t something a normal person should be able to do.’
Wang Ping formed a hand seal for a Spell, using his recently learned Spiritual Vision Technique to carefully probe Xuanling’s physical body, as well as his internal Spirit Veins and Qi Sea.
’Hm?’
’What is it?’
’Don’t you find his conscious memories problematic?’
’The chaotic, unknown region is large, but that’s consistent with a state of newly gained sentience. Everyone has chaotic regions in their conscious memories.’ Yu Lian, however, had a different perspective.
’There’s a special energy within his chaotic memories. It’s trying to alter my subconscious. Didn’t you notice?’ After this exchange, Wang Ping suddenly realized that the golden light in the head of his Spiritual Body had reappeared, and it was flickering without fading away.
But when he subconsciously tried to investigate it, it vanished again.
’I didn’t feel anything like that...’
Yu Lian tried to read Wang Ping’s emotions and consciousness, then responded, ’If that’s true, then this is a huge problem. Is someone arranging our destiny?’
Wang Ping snapped out of it, a carefree smile spreading across his face. "If someone is arranging our destiny, it just means we’re special."
With that, he cleared his mind and soon re-entered his meditative state.
「Time flew by. Soon, it was 7:00 AM.」
The sky was still dim and lightless. As if sensing something, Wang Ping awoke from his meditation.
From the sky, the figures of Hu Qianqian and Liu Shuang landed steadily before Wang Ping. Liu Shuang handed him a storage bag.
Xuanling woke up at this moment.
Wang Ping stopped Xuanling from rising to bow and activated the isolation Array around the small, vine-covered courtyard. As his Primordial Spirit Consciousness spread out, all other consciousnesses in the vicinity instinctively withdrew.
Then, he took out the contents of the storage bag.
It was another Banner Flag, identical to the Demon Gathering Banner. After a brief inspection, Wang Ping deployed a Heaven-Reaching Talisman and constructed dozens of Spirit Stabilizing Talismans, wrapping them around the flag.
"Qianqian, take your junior brother Xuanling back to Qianmu Temple."
As he spoke, Wang Ping tossed the storage bag containing the real Demon Gathering Banner to Xuanling. "From now on," he instructed, "you are to cultivate diligently at Qianmu Temple. Do not make a move without my command."
"Yes, Master!"
Wang Ping then turned to Hu Qianqian and commanded, "The world is in turmoil. Qianmu Temple needs stability. You are to remain within the sect and continue your previous assignment."
Hu Qianqian’s previous assignment had been to investigate matters related to Wu Ma Daoist, specifically the collaboration between Guanmao and the Southern Demon Race.
After the two departed, Wang Ping’s gaze fell upon Liu Shuang. "Is there any noteworthy news from Mozhou Road recently?" he asked. Liu Shuang was not only one of the leaders on the front lines but also one of the three Patrol Envoys for Mozhou Road.
"Nothing of major importance. The fighting between some of the smaller sects has just gotten very serious. At its root, this is an issue left over from the previous turmoil on Mozhou Road."
Liu Shuang answered cautiously. During the turmoil on Mozhou Road, the various sects had attacked one another, leaving behind a hatred that would likely not fade for centuries.
Wang Ping nodded.
Yu Lian landed on Wang Ping’s shoulder and stared intently at Liu Shuang. "Shuang’Er, you need to understand something. Your master watched you grow up. If there’s anything wrong, you can trust him."
"Of course, I understand."
Liu Shuang replied with great earnestness.
Seeing that Yu Lian was about to say more, Wang Ping waved his hand. "That’s enough. You may go attend to your duties. Be sure to comfort the afflicted people of Jianglin Road and He Xin Road."
"Yes, Master!"
Liu Shuang bowed respectfully and departed.
Watching her depart, Wang Ping couldn’t help but recall how lively she had been as a child, always full of questions. An involuntary smile touched his lips.
"She’s grown up now and has her own thoughts. Don’t interfere too much," Wang Ping said, looking at Yu Lian.
"Have it your way."
’Liu Shuang’s biggest problem right now is that her path has reached its end. When a person can see the limits of their future just by looking up, it’s inevitable that other thoughts will cross their mind.’
Wang Ping glanced at the sky and tried to use the Purgatory Banner to activate the Spiritual Poison. As expected, he failed again.
He looked up at the sky again. It was now broad daylight. He let out a breath, called to Yu Lian, and rose to his feet. Leaving the courtyard, he walked to the edge of a nearby cliff and gazed in the direction of True Yang Mountain.
The fog was thick, and nothing could be seen with the naked eye, but he could feel the vibrant life of the earth.
Another Half an Hour passed. Today, the sun finally broke through the clouds. As its rays spilled across the land, the fog gradually dispersed. The ruins around True Yang Mountain, a casualty of the great battle, were gone. In their place stood vast forests of pine and cypress.
Today was the day True Yang Mountain would be re-established.
When Zhi Gong and the others appeared beside Wang Ping, he said, "I plan to use the Mountain Suppressing Technique to suppress the Demon Gathering Banner beneath this newly risen True Yang Mountain. I’ll use the fortune from the incense offerings to the Lord’s golden idol to keep it in check."
