Pingzhou Road.

Before the Qi-Yang Regime rebelled against the Court, this region was filled with sprawling manors and estates, the top choice for the dignitaries and nobles of Shangjing City to relax and entertain themselves.

Now, the manors and estates have been converted into military citadels. Each citadel is equipped with a dedicated signal tower, and Detection Arrays and simple Barrier Formations have been established between them.

At this moment, these Barrier Formations were active. The rising curtains of light, with the citadels as their nodes, divided Pingzhou Road into several hundred strongholds of varying sizes. Special Arrays connected each stronghold, ultimately forming a complex and massive barrier that attempted to cover all of Pingzhou Road.

But while the idea was sound, the reality was brutal.

「The first day of the Lunar New Year.」

In the morning, while the world was still shrouded in a vast White Frost, hundreds of Longswords glowing with green halos streaked across the sky. They pierced through the barrier above Huangde Prefecture City and plunged into the silent metropolis below. Then, from the points where the swords landed, countless poisonous vines spread rapidly in all directions.

A cacophony of screams erupted, only to be cut short just as suddenly. Then, Huangde Prefecture, which had just celebrated the new year, fell into complete silence.

A moment later, the vines reached the military camp near Huangde Prefecture. A piercing metallic alarm blared, only to be silenced as well. Then, hundreds of figures who had just taken to the air were shredded by tearing distortions in space. Blood poured down like a torrential rain, dyeing the vine-infested camp crimson.

"Xiu Yu!!"

The furious roar echoed over Pingzhou Road. The clouds above the entire region turned a brilliant gold. This golden light resonated with the spiritual energy of Pingzhou Road, forming mystical golden lotuses that bloomed in the sky.

BOOM!

A dense web of golden lightning flashed above Bin Pass. As it struck, the magnificent pass and the surrounding mountains were utterly reduced to ruins. This was the Thunder Punishment of Fortune, called down by a ritualist of the Xia Imperial Family who had harnessed the faith of Pingzhou Road.

However, Bin Pass was already empty. The Thunder Punishment was more an act of catharsis—the people of Pingzhou venting their hatred through the ritualist.

Xiu Yu now hovered above the ruins of Bin Pass, flanked by two Golden Armored Puppets. His left hand maintained the Spell for an Armor Talisman while his right hand moved swiftly, forming several Talismans in front of him. He sent them into the bodies of his two puppets and the two Gold Cultivators ahead. In the next instant, the two Gold Cultivators and the Golden Armored Puppets transformed into streaks of light and shot up toward the golden-dyed clouds.

A few breaths later, sky-shaking metallic clashes rang out continuously. The clouds were blasted apart by the downward pressure of the impacts. When the shockwaves reached the ground, they were largely negated by the Barrier Formation that had been raised over Pingzhou Road, sparing the common people.

Above the clouds, eight figures were fighting in the most direct manner possible. Every clash sent tremors through space. The two Gold Cultivators were especially devastating; each of their strikes tore through space itself, throwing the spiritual energy above the clouds into chaos. This caused some of the Spiritual Creatures in the extraterrestrial Inspiration Realm to turn their unsettling eyes toward the battle.

Dozens of breaths passed in a flash. With a change in the Spell his hands were forming, Xiu Yu’s two puppets rapidly retreated, followed by the two Gold Cultivators, who fell back to the sky above Bin Pass.

BZZZT—

Countless black iron spheres materialized in the clouds. They shot through the void, spinning at high speeds and attracting one another like magnets, their movements even faster than the Gold Cultivators.

As the two Gold Cultivators retreated, one was struck in the chest by a black iron sphere. The impact rang out with the sound of metal on metal, and his rapid retreat faltered for an instant.

Just as more black spheres were about to converge on him, a black-and-purple barrier materialized out of thin air. It was followed by an ochre-colored tower that shot up from below, generating a peculiar suction force around it that pulled the black spheres onto its surface.

It was a Star God who specialized in barriers and an Earth Vein Cultivator!

On the Court’s side, a Third Realm Cultivator who had merged with Demon Soldiers had appeared. His Demon Soldiers could manipulate certain metals. His partner was a Star God who used a ’Tremor’ ability that affected the void. The two worked in concert, with the Star God opening up attack vectors for the Demon Soldier Cultivator. Their sudden assault was indeed difficult to parry.

"Xiu Yu, do you want to turn Pingzhou Road into a land of the dead?"

A man dressed in the brocade robes of a Court Prince stood beneath the clouds. The four Third Realm Cultivators deployed by the Shangjing Court stood behind him. His entire body was wreathed in flames, which were clearly the purest form of True Flame.

Xiu Yu’s expression was cold. He dismissed the Armor Talisman around him. A unique, bronze-style Longsword materialized by his left hand. A moment later, his Primordial Spirit erupted with a bloodline aura similar to that of the Demon Race. The bronze Longsword instantly swelled to several hundred times its original size, yet its agility and speed remained undiminished.

In the next instant, the Longsword, suffused with dense Wood Spirit Qi, shot toward the face of the Court Prince.

It was the Demon Race’s ’Giant Object Technique’!

The two ritualists immediately constructed a golden barrier using Heaven and Earth Fortune. But the moment the golden barrier made contact with the Bronze Sword, the weapon expanded again. For a brief instant, it seemed as if the Bronze Sword was the only thing in existence. Its size could no longer be described as merely "giant"!

The golden barrier shattered instantly. The sword pierced through heaven and earth. The Barrier Formation on the ground rapidly disintegrated. The mortals in the area were still frozen in terror at the sky-blotting size of the Bronze Giant Sword when the dense Wood Spirit Qi passed through their bodies, swiftly draining their spiritual essence. Then, under the force of the Bronze Giant Sword’s impact, they were reduced to pools of lifeless flesh and blood.

This was Xiu Yu’s answer.

The Prince who had spoken was in a sorry state. He had retreated outside the attack range of the Bronze Giant Sword under the protection of the four Third Realm Cultivators. He stared wide-eyed at the ground below. The powerful impact from the Bronze Sword had torn apart the land of two prefectures in southern Pingzhou Road, ripping up the entire surface. In the blink of an eye, not a single living person—not even a living insect—remained in the region!

The Prince was utterly shaken and instinctively turned his head to look behind him.

Behind him, held aloft by the fortune of the Xia Imperial Family, Xia Yao watched everything that had just transpired with a cold, indifferent gaze. Beside her, Jiangcun said in a low voice, "Xiu Yu truly cannot be judged by common sense. His long years of secluded cultivation have allowed the *Taiyan Talisman* to suppress most of his humanity, making his thinking exceptionally cold."

He had said this intentionally, and it was directed at Xia Yao.

For Xia Yao’s own humanity was suppressed to an even greater degree. She showed no reaction to Jiangcun’s words. Her icy voice rang out, "The Xiao Shan Lord wants the fortune of Pingzhou Road. What Xiu Yu is doing is entirely beneficial to us and brings no harm. Let him continue. The fortune of Pingzhou Road no longer belongs to the Court, so its destruction is of no consequence."

Her words made Jiangcun frown, but he did not try to stop her. He heard Xia Yao give an order to her subordinates, "Send some people to help them finish this game..."

As she spoke, she instinctively glanced toward the still-intact lands in northern Pingzhou Road. The moment her voice fell, four figures to her left and right transformed into streaks of light and headed south.

Seeing this, Jiangcun took a deep breath, and with his two disciples in tow, flew off in the direction of Shangjing City.
